Orange Monte Carlo

It is straight forward but for goodness sake make sure that you backup your QCN file as it makes it much easier to get the MAC address back in place for your Wi-Fi connection.

All is revealed here...

http://android.modaco.com/topic/348403-want-to-unlock-your-omc-skate-tutorial-here/

READ the FULL thread.

For me, and others, I would put in that first post of instructions...

7a - place the battery back in your phone or it will boot loop when you are trying to backup your QCN file and fail to do it.

You will see some of my panicked posts later in the thread (dibbles) as I hadn't placed the battery back in and also had problems of getting the backup software to find the correct port for the connected phone.

Don't forget the goodie bag that you get from Orange as well. The headphones are really good. If you do not need them then they also make a good and cheap Crimbo present :)

Yeah make sure you get the goodie bag, this years is a lot better than the last one. Some shops are running out often so call ahead to make sure.

Cheers for the replies. It was either this phone or the Samsung Ace, I think I'll go for the Skate now :)

Didn't even know this thread was here :-)

Got my OMC this morning after my HTC desire died :-(

Already rooted and removed most of the orange rubbish, changed the launcher and loving it. Will look at custom ROMS soon too, to get a bit more out of the CPU.

Anyone upgraded to this phone from the original OSF?

My OSF suits me fine, apart from poor battery life and no flash which makes camera pointless. I dont have much hope for any smartphone to have any better battery life so I guess only worthy 'upgrade' would be flash for camera, is it worth it? Not looking to spend too much...although another option would be 2nd hand Desire S for £250 or so...

I got a X10 Mini Pro from a supermarket for £90. Has a hardware slide out keyboard, same cpu as SF but is smaller. Camera is 5mp and with a flash. Battery life isn't great, but I can eak out 2 days if not using it much.

X10 has been replaced with Xperia Mini Pro, now has 1ghz cpu and bigger screen and is available from £150 and still has a very useable slide out hardware keyboard...

Yes both me and my wife got the OMC and now our trusty San Fran's are resting after being used lovingly for around a year or so. We both consider the OMC to be a worthy and affordable upgrade to the SF.

Gonna be buying my gf's dad one in a few days. In the orange shop for 119 quid.
Are they difficult to unlock? I liked the screen on the store one.

Not difficult to unlock but, as with most things of this type, you do have to follow the procedure very carefully. It is all explained over at Modaco

Guys, anyone have issues with the sound on this phone ?

I get what can only be called interference/crackling when I play tracks typically at the start of each track.

It's not really noticeable but it really shouldn't be there

ps I've toggled dolby which had no effect

Does it do it on ringtones too, or notifications? Mine is fine?

OK I've just tried this....

Hold the phone speaker to your ear and use the volume rocker to increase or decrease the ringer volume.

Upon change of volume you hear the familiar android beep which is perfect after which if you continue listening you'll hear a faint pitched background static sound as the sound circuit begins to switch off.

With the global economy circling the bog bowl in a manner not seen since the fall of the Roman Empire, there’s a lot to be said for a phone that gives you 80 per cent of the large-screen smartphone experience for 25 per cent of the price. And at £120 pre-paid - with a free Christmas gift box no less - that’s what the Monte Carlo, aka the ZTE Skate, does.
Sure, the 800MHz CPU can handle Flash video
Edited as you can install Flash manually ;)
