Basic unit strength question -

I read that a zealot is twice the strengh of a zealot but costs twice as much.

How do zerglings compare? Would 4 kills a zealot, or maybe 6?

With zero micro in a toe to toe fight 4 lings will eat a zealot. Zealot microed pefectly could kill all four lings though. Hit and run, recharging a bit of shield after each hit etc.

Won 2 and lost 3 of my placement games and got placed in copper league. Still enjoy the games I lose though, maybe not straight after :p but at least I learn something.

Just need to get my left hand working, so used to playing fps my hand hasn't gotten used to moving around the keyboard yet :)

Had a game yesterday against an awesome zerg player. Hammered all my drones and some zerglings early on with bandlings. Then protoss player sent in 4 colossus to finish me. 0 resources = defeat

He must have sent a scout to see what i was doing but never even noticed one

If he had colossus (colossi?) then he would have most likely had an observer, which is cloaked. So he could easily have seen you were ripe for stomping.

However had I been in the same situation as him I'd have probably attacked the other Zerg Player as you were more or less out of the game anyway, and just kept my observer over your base so that I could see when you were starting to pump out military units again, at which point I'd stomp you back to 0 drones (until the awesome zerg player was out of the game)

All hypothetical mind you as no doubt in a similar situation I'd have also been stomped by the awesome zerg player.

I really want to play this now :(
fished out Diablo 2 so I could sign up to battle.net and apply for the betas.
wonder if I'll ever get in!

Another question - I played a game against marine and they attacked my big group of hydras with something that just kept blowing up and killing them all. I couldnt do anything to stop it and it eventually wiped out about 50 of my units!

I really need to know what all the different abilities like cloaked etc does/how it works

Probably Banshee's - Terran flying unit that can only attack ground, they have a cloak upgrade. You should upgrade an overlord so they can see cloaked units.

are right, thanks. Do you need to place overloards around your base then to spot cloaked units?

I asked him what it was and im sure he didnt say it was banshees. Cloaked banshee might be called something else though maybe?

Could have been banshees or Siege tanks out of your field of view.

As Zerg you need to have overlords everywhere, and upgrade a few to overseers

I'd like to (but tend to forget to) have 1 overseer per base, (mine and the enemies) and one or 2 following my main army.

That way you have good scouting and there should be no surprises.

I also tend to drop the odd broodling (I think thats what they are called) from my overseers to use as expendable scouts. They take the form of the first enemy unit they see and last for about 90 seconds I believe. I spit them out from time to time and run them into the enemies base (or out of my base if I'm defending and think an attack is about to come). They get way more intel then any other observational unit, because nothing auto attacks them. The Enemy has to first spot that its not one of his units, then force fire on it.

BTW I talk a good game, but I'm not that good in game...

Done by placement games and got put in the copper league.

Can't believe I lost the last game. I knew exactly what the dude was doing, I had an observer following his army the whole game. He just massed Immortals. I decided a good counter would be Collosus, for some reason. I didn't realise until it was too late that I should have gotten a Starport. :(

Did manage to win 2 games in a row though, both against Zerg. Actually did the smart thing in one of them and got Immortals when I saw his Roach warren. Worked well, my immortals destroyed his attempt to mass Roaches and I won. The other one he rushed too early with too few Zerglings and my Zealots held them off and then went into his base unchallenged. I love this game. :p

well since the latest patch the terran turret takes out 3 tier1 void rays now (turret tier0) , does that not seem overpowered to you ? . stopped playing it now as they have well and truely fracked this beta

Against mass immortals in pvp you can either make your own immortals (though if he already has a few then you are going to have way less) or you can mass zealots - the best counter to immortals are units with very fast attack speed. Immortals hard counter collosus and other mech units.

Turrets are supposed to counter air very well, if you see them then you need to attack from another angle. Void rays are generally a pretty bad idea against terran though since marines hard counter them.
