**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I'm quite happy with the VR nerf tbh.

I don't know how they'll play out now though.I think the speed reduction was a bit overdone.

Also being on the receiving end of massed mutalisks feels somewhat similar though. So I wonder if they'll do something there as protoss don't really have a cost effective air domination unit.

I can't believe you'd only start using Thors now. They are the best anti air unit in the game!

I can't honestly rememebr a loss where I've viewed the replay and thought Thors would have changed the outcome.

When it comes to AA, I'd far rather have stimmed marines and vikings for the cost of the Thor. Gives me AA and good scouting ability at the same time.

I seem to be struggling against Protoss, I even tried two proxy rax with reactors and that still didn't work. I play Terran only.

One tactic that did work last night was build up defence with a discreet strike force against zurg, in fact most my wins are against Zurg. I dropped a load of turrets around my perimiter and spammed marines, two bunkers and two siege at base entry to ward off ground assaults. He tried twice and failed both air and ground. As soon as he did I countered around the rear of his base with 7 Ravens and dropped 12+ turrets on his supply. Game over.

If he had been Protoss I dare say he'd have had turrets to thwart my counter and his initial air attack would have been more successful.

Is it a bad move to play like that as Terran, hunker down and run strikes with air units and possible medvac drops?

I can't see the point in going mass mutas in 1v1, theres just no attraction. their too weak and leave your base totally open. For 2v2 upwards their pretty imbah though (like last night), but the game shouldn't be balanced based on 2v2.. only 1v1.

Roaches can now snipe the buildings without photon canon reaching them, no more FE for toss in PvZ

Good! ^^ we've been needing something like this for a while.
early game wall break/defense.

Can't wait to test these out defending on creep :)

It sounds to me liek your struggling against protoss because your using the wrong units. Pure marines will do nothing to Protoss once they have stalkers up and running. you need to mix your army up a little bit. Try to Combine Marines and Marauders in your army eary game, you'll find this much more effective than messing around with Ravens. If you want to use Ravens against Protoss, make use of the Point Defense Drone. dropping 1-2 of those in a battle will totally cut off their Stalker attacks, allowing you to mop up the Zealots, and then rip the stalkers up.

huh, roaches suddenly got really viable again..at least the 2 supply cost may be fully justified now :p

Might start properly practicing zerg again :D

Oh, the point defence cuts out the stalker anti-air? Nice! :D

You say messing around with Ravens, you no like?

the point defence cuts out all stalker attacks >_<

Thing about ravens is they're awesome units, but i'd stick to one or two at the most. Great for killing observers, good for putting a PDD down in the middle of a battle, good for dropping a turret in the mineral line. But the more ravens you have, the less core units you have in your army.

You need a decent amount of marauders (with stim and concussive shell...*twitch*) to put some real hurt on a protoss player.

At least until they have high templar. Then get ghosts and emp him to death before sending your marauders back in for the roflstomp. If they tech to colossus instead of HTs, then get vikings and do the same thing. PDD is helpful here as stalkers are what will prevent your vikings from killing colossi. Either way, get marauders :D

EDIT: Not to say that marines arent awesome units. In the early game, speed zealots with sentries can be a big headache for pure marauders. The trick is to adjust your marine/marauder balance depending on their skew towards either zealots/stalkers in order to get the highest dps.

I love Ravens, possibly one of my favourite units in the game. A Worthy replacement for the Science Vessel. However, vs protoss, you only need 1-2 at the most. no point in the turrets, just use the PDD when you go into battle. and Keep your ravens alive throughout the game if you can, that way you don't have to repalce them (very gas heavy)

What this man said is very good advice :)

gonna try this raven shizzle in my next 3v3 , can see it working really well as you can easily have the time to build up aslong as you survive the first rush.

yeah their quite easy to get. its just like rushing a banshee out. but you can spend more money on barracks units too :)

I won't be able to play this weekend but I'm up for some 3v3s, and I really want a zerg master class from Indie.

i doubt it will be a master class.. more like a master bodge ^^

Add me up and we'll spa a few and i'll show you what i can :)
