**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Would anyone like to analyse my last replay to see how I've progressed?

I'm Terran, it's a convincing(?) quick win against a Silver T (I'm still Bronze) but I'd still like to see where I could improve.

I'm thinking I could have built another starport and factory sooner, with tech labs so I could get a raven out to counter his cloaked Banshees. I countered his early marine push and did no harass myself but I was more concerned by my scan of his quick expo.

Perhaps a Banshee to his mineral would have been a better call over a second factory?

Your level of play is much higher than bronze heh. At any given point after 5 minutes you could've killed him. So my suggestion is to scout more and just kill him when you see he only has 6 marines to your 6 marines, 4 marauders and siege tank. :p

Oh and don't attack into a planetary fortress ever. :p

You could've just let your tanks hit it and sent your bio his ramp and killed his main.

Expand more too, you had about 35 SCVs in your main base before going for the gold, you could have expanded much earlier than that to your natural.

Also, don't have 12 SCVs on one gas, it doesn't increase your gas income ;) (just select 2 scvs to go mine gas after it's finished building, don't change your rally point from the minerals, that way you don't forget to change it back :)).

Yeah, 12 SCVs on one gas is a bit wasteful

3 being the perfect number, depending on the distance (sometimes I'll fast expand on maps that have the gold blocked by scrap/rocks so I need 4 or 5 workers mining the far gas). Rarely I'll have 4 on one of the main gases without realising it, but that's not much a mistake in high Gold, though it definitely would be a significant enough one in Diamond I'm sure :)

Had quite a good night tonight, 4 games and 4 solid wins, I think the reason is I've learned to expand CONSTANTLY, had a game on Metalopolis, spawned in close top positions, by the end of the game he had taken his natural and I had 4 bases, it's quite amazing how easy it is to recover losses with that much income.

I am however finding it tricky to USE that much cash, going for roughly 3 gates/1robo per Expo. My build is predominatly 3gate/robo aiming for Collossi with an expand around 30-40 depending on scouting stuff, I'm still getting used to that, I've got roach rush and 3rax sorted though. Seems pretty easy to hold up, I generally don't do much on the Robo side until I've expanded as otherwise I have to cut Gateway units which I don't feel comfortable with.

Also I discovered my APM is sitting at around 40, I'm quite happy with that. I also dicovered I have TERRIBLE micro, or to be more accurate NO MICRO, <3 attack move. My macro however I feel is getting a lot better, I'm using pretty much only shortcuts and using a lot more hotkeys and as above, expanding whenever it's safe to.

Oh also, how do you find out what league someone you play against is in?

Such a pain in the ass playing Starcraft 2 with cold hands..

So true! I'm sitting here in my fingerless gloves playing it at the moment! :D

I'm high-plat and expecting to be promoted soon and played all day yesterday but just experienced rush after rush. In the end I had to go 4 warp gate to start winning which just felt cheesey and then got "protoss are OP" by a guy who went 1 base roach rush which I scouted and stopped and then just attacked him back . Is anyone else experiencing more aggression on the European servers lately?

Cheers dude - I'm consistently beating silver and gold now. :)

The Fortress was just annoying me so I took those SCVs with my bio, I knew he was on the back foot and just wanted to push... but you're right, it's silly and impatient!

Doh, I didn't know that about gas! I'll stop throwing workers at it then. :o

3 is the magic number, noted.

Tell me about it!

I have two pair of fingerless gloves but both are too thick to play in, I can't properly feel the keyboard and inadvertently press keys with my palm etc.

I've resorted to keeping the heating on all day, like now, how wasteful of me... but to be fair it is snowing still!

Failing that, the cheaper option is a hair-dryer aimed in your general direction. :D

This method is totally proven 100% pure science:

After every loss you do some push ups... I have a push-up / points loss system which seems to work very well. After a lose streak of about 5 games you cant feel your arms so you have to stop playing! full proof!

Something like, lose to higher ranked opponent = 10
Lose to lower ranked opponent = 20
Get cheesed and didn't scout it = 25

etcetc

LOL that's actually so close to the truth!

I actually do sit-ups and press-ups inbetween games, not to keep warm, to keep fit! 4 sets of 30 on the arms and 3 sets of 50 on the stomach, and who said gaming was unhealthy? I've been doing it for some time, a long with running but I obviously leave the desk and house for that.. :D

hasnt sc2 1v1 always been about rush rush rush?

Only if you want to rush, I for one never rush, I prefer to expand and stay safe and watch my enemy fruitlessly throw money at me before casually roflstomping his entire army because it makes my balls feel big. If anything I've experienced far more rushes in 3v3 and 4v4 purely because if more than 1 person does it it becomes almost unstoppable.

Generally speaking most rushes are easy enough to stop if you scout and prepare accordingly, lose to something enough times and you'll eventually learn why.

hasnt sc2 1v1 always been about rush rush rush? i didnt think that strategy had changed over the past months? exactly why i dont do 1v1s ;)

I rarely see rushes, I get the odd cheese here and there but most games are 20-30 minutes for me. Just about right?

i love it when a 3v3 team has more then 2 zergs . you know exactly what their gonna do 6/7pool...idiots.
by the time they rock up at my base iv already got 2 cannons up to kick there ass.....its becoming quite the norm.

Ok I should eat my own words, just got cheesed by a Protoss.

Cloaked units just ate through my whole base in under 10 mins, took out all my workers and I had no scan for about 30 seconds so it was game over.

Yes I know - scout, scout, scout!

For me it's been

Protoss > Random > Zerg > Protoss > Terran > ???

I've won all my games recently with terran, but honest to God I hate it so much. It just feels so ridiculously cheap when I say, kill a guy's workers with cloaked bancheese and I have that nostalgia about the same thing happening to me back when I was protoss, or when I just stim and total a protoss army with nothing more than a 1a.

Basically I think i'll just go back to protoss. Blizzard will balance everything out eventually and I'll just sit tight until then.
