**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

hasnt sc2 1v1 always been about rush rush rush? i didnt think that strategy had changed over the past months? exactly why i dont do 1v1s ;)

Only in the lower leagues. It's quite easy to stop a rush if you scout it. Most of my games last like 20minutes unless I get rolled of vice-versa.

Guys,
would be great if a few of you could take a look at a recent PvP game I had and tell me where I can improve please.

Be gentle, its only Bronze.

Wrote down a few thoughts while watching :) hope some of it's helpful.

Dont chrono before the pylon finishes, otherwise it's just wasted in all honesty. You could potentially chrono on 8 and pylon on 10, but that wouldnt put you ahead in the probe count in the long run, whereas putting the first chrono down after the pylon finishes will give you the best advantage.

Second pylon wasnt needed so early, you can wait until at least 15-16 before you put that down. Meanwhile other resources can be spent on, say, a gas geyser.

Be careful about wasting chronoboost (i.e.having it running on your nexus when you dont have any probes building)

When your gateway finished you already had enough to put down a cybernetics core. Also you had lots of money ready in the bank on top of that so I'd have liked to see that go into another assimilator or perhaps another gateway.

Lots of time spent not building probes at around 4 minutes. With all of your attention on your enemy's probe (in all honesty he wasnt getting any useful information from your base anyway), you lost track of what you were doing. 600 minerals in the bank by 4:45 :(.

Generally if you want to get warp gate tech (which 99.9% of the time you do) it's a good idea to put 3 probes in that first geyser as soon as it finishes or as soon as you put the cyber core down. That'll give you enough to get it started as soon as the core finishes. Lots of time was spent not mining from it, so just be aware of that :)

Still 400 minerals in the bank by 6 minutes. As you're only getting 2 gates up, I'd have liked to see you just put this into an expansion. You're not coming under pressure, so spend the minerals. In the long run you'll get huge gains from an expansion..

Not seeing a supply block though which is always good :)

If you do see yourself with 750 mins in the bank, then try to think of something to spend it on. You do get that expansion eventually, which is good :) money's dropped nicely.

You're building more probes than your opponent which is good, but I'd love to see that production be more constant. Also try to use your chronoboost. It's not an invaluable resource, and as soon as you hit 100 energy it starts to get wasted. So any units/upgrades you're making, just hit the chrono. Or if nothing else, chrono probes for the economic advantage.

At 12:24 and his void rays start to move out. Would have like to see an observer come out of that robotics facility just to have a look around, see what's going on. Then you can prepare a bit better. Also useful to have around in case of cloaked units (read: DTs)

Blinked stalkers = awesome. good choice :D Need to be careful of robotics tech in the long run as big armies with immortals and colossi will put serious hurt on stalkers, even with blink. It's a good idea to practice your blink micro, so when you see a unit getting into the red, blink it back to behind your army so that it doesnt die.

Be careful though as they shouldnt win the game for you. Remember to go back to your base and continue your macro, even though you're in a battle :)

Just got promoted to Silver, woop. :D

And I just watched a replay back of a good win that promoted me, my APM peaked (in battle) at around 250 - I was quite surprised it was that high!

So true! I'm sitting here in my fingerless gloves playing it at the moment! :D

I'm high-plat and expecting to be promoted soon and played all day yesterday but just experienced rush after rush. In the end I had to go 4 warp gate to start winning which just felt cheesey and then got "protoss are OP" by a guy who went 1 base roach rush which I scouted and stopped and then just attacked him back . Is anyone else experiencing more aggression on the European servers lately?

Tell me about it!

I have two pair of fingerless gloves but both are too thick to play in, I can't properly feel the keyboard and inadvertently press keys with my palm etc.

I've resorted to keeping the heating on all day, like now, how wasteful of me... but to be fair it is snowing still!

Failing that, the cheaper option is a hair-dryer aimed in your general direction. :D

This method is totally proven 100% pure science:

After every loss you do some push ups... I have a push-up / points loss system which seems to work very well. After a lose streak of about 5 games you cant feel your arms so you have to stop playing! full proof!

Something like, lose to higher ranked opponent = 10
Lose to lower ranked opponent = 20
Get cheesed and didn't scout it = 25

etcetc

Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from the blummin' cold!

I'll be sure to try that out TMP, thanks for the tip. :p

Yeah, I'd say every other toss I play does the 4 gate start to amass mainly stalkers and then transitions in to colossus.

Just had a 2 hour battle on Steps of War with a fellow Silver, TvT, bloody nightmare. He went heavy Banshee later on which allowed my Marines to mop up (I split them). Also took out 10 of his siege tanks with my single uncloaked Banshee, that must have hurt. :D

Anyway, far too long!

Getting demoted from Gold to Silver has really been a blessing in disguise, I used to just go for various all-ins but this time round I'm really trying to make the game into a macro game and I really feel like I'm getting better at the game.

Love these Terran who just sit back and try and amass an army while I just macro up. I still need to get to figure out the timings on some of their pushes, lost a few games where I was too busy droning and got caught with my pants down.

Hi all,

if anybody is playing into the early hours tonight and tomorrow and fancy a Zerg player on their party, give me an invite.

Shayne

looking forward to it.

Alright, I've figured out that I like Terran the least and that it's my weakest race. Zerg/'toss are more even for me. So I'm gonna stop playing random and just switch between those two, perhaps singling one out in time. This should finally get me into Platinum, baby! :D

Tho I won't really be using it, as I'm strictly solo 1v1, I'm happy chat channels will be coming for you guys! :)

just saw the thread this morning, couldn't stop bouncing with excitement.

Here are my thoughts. Add my 2 cents to the pile pennies.

Hallucination research time decreased from 110 to 80.
Awesome. really, this is a good buff to protoss scouting.

Observer cost decreased from 50/100 to 25/75.
Unnecessary with the hallucination buff.

Phoenix build time decreased from 45 to 35.
Very happy with this, seeing as now stargate openings will be very viable in PvZ, and mutas will become a lot easier to deal with. Phoenix will still get countered by the usual stuff, hydras, spore crawlers, etc, only they'll fit easier into the role of a harassing unit; the VR will become the "heavy" damage dealer.

Void Ray
Now deals 20% more damage to massive targets.
Flux Vanes speed upgrade removed.

This would have fixed PvP,but then Flux Vanes got removed, so it will not fix PvP. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. It is still going to be collosus vs collosus. Terran Vikings have range 9 and 2.75 air with massive frontload damage, and have trouble positioning against collosus. what do you think range 7, 2.25 speed charging voidrays are going to do?

Repairing SCVs now assume the same threat priority as the unit they’re repairing.
finally.

Fungal Growth no longer affects air units.
SOOOOOOO STUPID. This makes zerg vs zerg even worse. If this was indeed changed because flux vanes was removed, Then put back flux vanes and give back fungal growth air abilities. God i hope this doesnt get through testing.

UNFORTUNATELY:
no fix for Terran MMM?

oh, and stalemate detection, that'll be very helpful for bronzes stuck after cannon rush vs. cannon rush/proxy gate
