**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

And 2 challenge missions would have told you both points.

 Your point? I had much more fun on the ladder, so why would I want to do the challenges?

To this day I haven't finished them and I have no interest to. If you enjoyed them then great, personally I think they are dull. I'd much rather actually try and fight off a proxy 2 gate, for example, than a computer to arbitrarily put you in some position similar to a proxy 2 gate but doesn't even consider the follow up.

Been playing a lot recently getting a lot better macro. Got my apm up to around 70 on all games - was about 40 before.

Last night played 10games, won 9. Putting me up to 4th in my bronze league, beat some plat and gold players too. Really hopping to get leagued up tonight.

BTW found a nice tool - SC2gear. You set it up to look for your reply folder. you select the game and it analysis the game, build orders, apm, macro apm. Its really good and usefull i'm finding to make sure i'm pushing myself.

Finding i need to expand quicker and attack more. I'm finding putting my 2 exp out at 14/15minutes isn't enough, It needs to be out at 10 max.

Must say tho, Hulucination(sp*) is soo op. I was doing it last night, 9 Halucinated voidrays or collossus and they just GG'd in 2 games. :D

Watching MC at the MGL taught me a lot tho, and i've taken a lot of hints from him.

Macro - building units, buildings workers, upgrades ect.

Micro - unit movement.

When starting its best to focus 100% on your macro.

Ah right, Is that like keeping loads of minerals and Supply points?

Watched a video that said focus on Supply and Probes.

Bit hard to always have a probe getting made though :p

Whats macro?

Macro is the building of units/structures/upgrades.

Players that have "good" Macro, will adjust so they are building the correct units/structures/upgrades to directly counter what the enemy is doing. They will also often be using most if not all of their resources constantly.

Never store minerals/gas unless you are saving up for a burst of a certain unit type. For example, Protoss will save minerals once their 4 Warp Gates are complete, so they can spend 5-600 minerals on some stalkers instantly.
Zerg will save as much gas as possible before their Spire is complete so they can build 6-7 Mutalisks straight away.

One rule that you must abide by... never stop making probes!!! :D

best way to do it is hotkey your Nexus to something like 4. then when your fighting or focusing on something else, you can just press "4e" and it will build you a probe :)

Micro is how you handle your individual units in and out of combat to make them more powerful.
This can be done by making use of the environment (cliffs, ramps etc..), or taking advantage of specific units abilities, Marines/Stalkers are very good at kiting melee units to deal more damage and allow them to survive for longer :)

Really good players are able to Macro AND Micro at the same time. You're a long way off this yet, it doesn't hur tto practise though !! I still can't do it, I always build the wrong units.. don't I Rob? :p

How will I know if there is not one being made? :p

Watching this video atm since it is usually happens to me :

EDIT : How do I change the hotkey for the Nexus?

Not one what being made.. a probe? Hotkey your nexus to something like 4 (to hotkey, highlight the Nexus, and press CTRL + 4) then. everytime you press 4 it will select the Nexus, regardless of where you are on the map. It will also show you the build line, so If one isn't being made, just press "E" (the hotkey to build probes) and one will start to build.

It sounds really complicated, and it will take aaages to get used too, but it will be second nature to do it eventually :)

You shouldn't ever have a lot of minerals it should constantly be low. Focus on always having a worker being produced, spending the rest of your money on units (1 at a time don't queue them up) and then spend whatever you have left on buildings and upgrades. That is a very basic level of macro. The other half is building things in the right order at the right time in the right combinations. They say focus on pylons because they give you higher supply and you don't want to ever be supply blocked, doesn't mean you don't have to build them constantly, i've seen some terrible t openings with 3 supply depots in the first 3 minutes that they never use.

I think that is just a case of build order... Unfortunatly im pretty useless at Protoss and tend to just make it up as I go along.
A good build order will set you in good tracks for the rest of the game, so its quite important.

When I play Protoss, I do something like....
(numbers represent your current population)

Probes until you have 9/10 population.
Pylon at 9
Probes until 12 (with Chrono Boost From Nexus)
Gateway at around 12
Pylon + Assimilator (Gas) at around 13 or 14
Cybernetics Core - As soon as you have 150 minerals
Gateway when you can afford
Research Warp Gates at Cybernetics Core as soon as possible.

Thats a pretty bog standard build, at least thats what I do whenever I play Protoss. My gameplay is around Platinum level with them, so i'm not that great

Just remember, Its not worth building if your not going to use it! :)

I have been doing Stalker rushing worked out 2 games in the practice league out of 3 :)

I usually go :

Probes until 9
Pylon at 9
Probes until 13
Gateway at 13
Zealot when built
Pylon + Gas thing when I can afford
Cybernectics Core when at 150
Research Warp Gates as soon as Cybernectics Core is up
Gateway when I can afford
Stalkers on both gates until reasearched
Gateway again
Spawn Stalkers via Warp Gate
Expand
Spawn Stalkers until around 15-25 then Rush.

Depends what your oponant is building but stalkers aren't always the best unit to go for.
Other than that your build order seems pretty good :)

Against protoss i rarely see anything but pure stalker at the start. I know very little about this Match Up

Against Terran, in general you'll need a nice mix of Zealot/Stalker/Sentry (More Zealots if they are Marauder heavy. More Stalkers if they are Marine heavy + 2-3 Sentry for Forcefields and Shield)

Against Zerg you should get Zealot to block your ramp and a sentry to sit behind him. If they go heavy roach then you should go for Robotics Bay and get Immortals out. If Hydra or Muta, then you should go for Stalkers with Sentry. Or Zealots with the Charge upgrade.

Alex or Rob are the best to ask about Protoss, their both pretty good :)

TBH best start is always 3/4 sentrys, always for sheild + forcefield. I get that with zerg + terran.

When I'm home tongiht I'll be streaming as per usual - justin.tv/peeejayz.

There are some VODs from my previous streams on there too.

I'm only a bronze level protoss atm - but might give you a few ideas. I get a lot of my ideas ect from watching pro level matches online.

MC, Whitera, Kiwikaki and incontrol are my fave protoss to watch atm.

I think the most important matchup for sentries is against Terran, a T early push can be devastating and its so easy to lose a game over an initial push of marines and maruaders.

Z its pretty easy just to go z,sen, stal mix.
Most P early expand now anyways so the mins are being spent into a cannon or 2.

P is tricky you see a lot going for a bit of 2 gate cheese of zealots but loads of stalkers are always a good idea but again PvP is starting to turn into a war-o-cannons nowadays aswell.

Aye... sentries are really really powerful but be really careful to not let them die... Make sure you have plenty of zealot meat :) You don't want to be spending 800 gas every time on just sentries if you can avoid it.
