**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Got a few good games with some people in the chat today. Would be nice to see more of that , just playing with people from the forums for fun :)

yeah OcUk :) there are normally a few players in there. Bismark and myself ( both silver) were playing with another channel member sim(something) a diamond level player. Good way to learn and with one observer you can help people with their game play.

For instance helped with my macro and how many gates I really need per base etc :)

I'd be up for doing some of this, what kind of time are you guys on? I'm high plat terran but probably around silver/gold level zerg, which is what I want to improve :)

I am normally on from about 7-12 pm generally, I'll be either laddering or doing 3's with a couple of my mates. But I don't mind doing customs to fill my time!

Someone apologised to me last night after he 4 gate all in'd me lol! I held it off for a while but I couldn't keep supply up :(

What build did you do? Often the the hardest thing about a rush is not holding the first wave but its the reinforcements that is the difficult thing.

If your a T then throw up bunkers (2 or 3rax is probably the preferable opening)

If your a Z then throw down spines and get a few lings.

If your P then FF your ramp with a sentry until you can get an immortal out or quite a few stalkers (depending on what kind of 4gate he does.)

Yea, very much this. It can be a right pain keeping up with those reinforcements. I find you need to start pretty much perfectly, with a bunker (or 2-3 if 1 rax expanding given you'll be marine heavy) and a lot of repair and hope :D. You can get away with losing a few scvs and you'll still probably come out ahead, especially if defending a second cc (remember that's an extra mule =~ 6 scvs). I tend to go 1 rax/2 rax expand myself so it's pretty common in my experience to end up with an extra cc sitting in my main.

If you're defending a fast expand dont worry about keeping that second cc in your main for a little longer if you need to, as it'll still contribute to your income. Remember you can always get more out of a given base than any other race. :)

A lot of what'll help you defend is a well refined build. Because it's so timing dependent, the cleaner your build, the better you'll be able to defend.

That's pretty much all there is to defending a 4 gate as terran in my experience. Just scout and respond, you should be fine :)

For those people who are new to the game, there is a guy called dApollo, so far he has done tutorials for both Zerg and Protoss, but! he just released part 1 of the Terran tutorial can be found here:

Day9 also had loads of dailys on everything from beginners to advanced tutorials for each race.

You can find them all on his website (Just google Day9) and on the Liquipedia it has a list of all the Day9 episodes letting you know what race and difficulty they are.

Lol. In what league do Protoss players not buy immortals when they see mass roach? Colossi and void rays also counter roaches. Stalkers are ok against them too. If I played Z, I would go ultra & hydra if the enemy went stalker colossi. Add a few banelings if he has a lot zealots. If he goes gateway units just mass hydra with a few ultras (forget the ultras if he has immortals). If he goes gateway + HT then ultra & roach. If he goes chargelot archon then I'd go mass banelings & roaches.

assuming a FFE the idea with mass roach is to hit him with a 3 base timing and its super effective. He wont have time to buy many immortals if you deny scouting and before his observer sees it. Watch Stephano zvp.

Ive actually been struggling with this from the opposite side recently... in my TvP's i go 2 rax aggression, usually i will push into his base, kill his stalkers, he will pull his probes which force me out and then his stalker counter attack comes and wipes me out!

My issue seems to be my reinforcements come in a conga line while his reinforcements come in 1 large (totally imba) spawn in. This counter is before my medivacs come in to keep up my pressure...

I have started having to build bunkers while attacking and expecting to be defending soon after.

Last time i lost to this i asked what my opponent thought i did wrong and he said i shouldn't all in!

It's called overextending yourself. If you go into his base with such a small force that his workers are enough to kill it off then you shouldn't be going in there.

If you push and kill his army but you know his workers are enough to kill you then just fall back, you've put on enough pressure and he'll be focusing on getting out a defensive army instead of counterattacking.

should always be doing macro on the move, so when your force are on the way to his natural or whatever just build build build, and if you get unlucky and lose your wave you have a fall back for his counter. Always have seige tanks on your natural as they can mop up most small attacks.

but you shouldn't have seige tanks in TvP unless you're going for some kind of 111 variation and even then i'd suggest going for MMBanshee without stim.

You should have seige tanks in all match ups to be honest.

According to who? You? I haven't seen a pro terran player get a single siege tank against protoss as far back as I can remember.

Obviously there are strategies that make use of tanks, but there are plenty (the majority) which don't, so it's wrong on several levels to say you "should" have tanks. Same goes for TvZ and TvT. Plenty of ways to win those without using tanks.

You have to be gold or under.

Siege tanks are terrible against Protoss unless used in the very early game in a timing attack.

The majority of Protoss units are great against mech and siege lines. Immortals, stalker and chargelots decimate them.
