**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Yeah sure, sounds good. Just had a couple of 2v2's with a random, really enjoyed it - Brought a whole new aspect to the game.

Oh God, why did I buy this just before summer exams..

Gahh, been on a massive losing streak tonight. Dropped out of silver (ironically I won my last game in the silver league and then dropped to Bronze) Won a few games in Bronze and then resumed my losing streak. I'm not sure whats gone wrong. I've just played so sloppily tonight. Its just stupid things like building extractors and not putting any drones on them.

In a lot of the match-ups I have dominated early put the opponent under loads of pressure and then stuffed things up.

On the plus side I've found a new start to my build order which I am nearly happy with.

I think I will try to have some practice matches with Some OcUK players rather than go into the ladder for the next few days. Get my build order perfected and then kick arse.

I must admit, i didn't play many games last night, but didnt win a single 2v2 with my partner, and we're normally topping Gold league... we both played absolutely terrible, not scoutting, building wrong counters.. was weird, we knew we were doing it but couldn't stop ourselves... just one of those nights, i've found if your playing terrible, its best you don't play for a night or two, then go back to it :D

I usually forget to set nexus/command/hatchery waypoint for the drones so i built 3 or 4 then realise they are all just sat there

I neally always end up with 50 gas and 1000 minerals

I also dont expand enough, or by the time i do there is a group of units ready to destroy my expansion

I've got a mineral/gas harvesting question..

I notice on one of the loading screen tips it states that the optimum harvest rate is to have 3 harvesters per node. So, 3 per reactor, or per mineral tile I'm guessing. Does that mean after that point extra harvesters on a node are counter productive? Also, do people micro their harvesters no to specific mineral tiles, or just let the base rally point be on the minerals? Currently my biggest problem seems to be people simply amassing minerals quicker than me, and I'm wondering if something to do with the way I'm managing my harvesters is why.

The Optimum is 3, however it does not become counter productive as such, more that the workers would be much more use sent to ane expansion.

3 per gas, 4 depending on how far away it is. but in general stick to 3.

at the start i micro my workers to individual mineral fields. click them all, send them to one tile, then split them up to different ones as they move over. its quite tricky to master. then i set the rally point to any unused tiles untill all are full. then i just set it to the middle and let them sort themselves out after that.

only 3 per gas, really? I usually have about 10 on each. seems to bring gas in a lot faster with 10 on than 3

lol are you joking? Having 10 on gas is a massive waste. Only 1 guy can fit in the gas building. So those 9 dudes are just going to be standing there. 3 is the best because you can have one in the geyser, one on the way back to the Nexus and one on the way to the nexus with a slight wait time for the first dude to get out. Any others and they're just going to be stacking outside the gas building. They'd be much more useful on minerals or at an expansion.

you honestly have 10 on your gas???

sometimes more, i just carry on pumping out miners to mine minerals then change the waypoint to a gas if theres loads on minerals. It uses up supply but whilst this is happening I will expand and move some miners to other fields. At the same time I will try and get small attack groups send out to keep the enemy occupied whilst i upgrade everything and continue to pump out units at main base

Thats exactly what I've been doing Guest2, I'm going to try the 'proper' way now. I've noticed though, that if I assign one drone to a certain mineral tile, it often doesn't even go back to that specific one anyhow? Or am I mistaken?

Anyone fancy some 2v2's or 1v1 pactices this afternoon/this evening? I'll be on and off in between getting bits of work done.

Max 3 per Mineral and 3 per gas.

Any more is a waste of drones.

You get your biggest return of investment with 2 per mineral patch, however you get abit more if you use 3 per patch (but the difference in income is not as great as going from 1 drone to 2 drones)

But after 3 drones there is no improvement.

In terms of drone management. When I start I select all the drones click on a mineral patch then select 3 and send them to a patch 2 minerals away from my original destination. It has taken me weeks to get proficient at this. (more on this later) after that I just point my hatch's drone rally point to the nearest mineral patch and let the drones figure it out for themselves.

Also as zerg you can set each egg to its own waypoint. So if I build a new gas and about half way through its build I build 3 drones I can do 5sddd then click on the gas and those 3 drones will all spawn and start collecting the gas (assuming they come out after the building is built) You can do this with all other units. So often I will 5sddd click on minerals/gas 5szzz click on point on map 5sv click on point on map. So the units will go to this rally point instead of the hatch's default one.

In terms of Drone **** ups. I have:

Forgotten to send drones to Gas
Forgotten to set rally points on expansions
Set the rally point to gas and forgotten about it
Wondered why my income has suddenly dropped, only to find I have mined out one of my bases (and when watching the replay it happened a while back)

Then there is my ovie issues. I spend more time in supply lock than anything else. I need to remember to press v once for every hatch whenever I am spawning more than 7 units.
I often look at my units and think "Where are all the roaches I spawned 2 min ago?" What happened is I supply locked myself and hit 5srrrrrrrrrrrr. And nothing happened. But I didn't realise.

Another thing I do is try to spawn an overlord but I think I must forget to press s or something because I 5sv and wait a min, then 5sdddzzzrrr and I hear "You must build more overlords" and I think... What happened to the one I just built a min ago?

Good gosh the number of muckups I make in a game let alone a night are untrue.

Who is on tonight. I have looked at what I was trying to achieve with the build that I was using last night, and have refined it "hypothetically". So I would like to try it out without ruining what is left of my very poor rank, to see how it holds up and what tweaks are needed.

that means you have 7 or more peons doing nothing at all. you should always rally them to minerals, and ocne you've expanded move a group of them to your expansion. Of course continue to make your drone/scv/probe throughout the game, but never use more than 3/4 on gas chambers.

I'll be on, probs around 6:30-7ish, have a hospital visit to do first after work. but i'll be around

Luxotica.pork .. i think i added you last night though :)

Well, after playing all yesterday on custom games, I finished off my placement games this evening. Won all of them but one if I remember right, possibly lost two actually, but placed in Silver at the end. I expect to go down, but we shall see.

My resource handling has definitely got a LOT better.. As has my scouting the more I learn about the other factions etc. Still need to learn the rock/paper/scissor style counters though.

Is there any zerg ground unit that can attack air? I seem to always mass a huge upgraded zergling and roach army, only to be raped with a few mutas (and i forget to build spore aa things)
