**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Me and a friend have been making an arcade map for SC2 WoL. It is a tug of war style map. We need a few people to help us test it before we make it public. If you like desert strike/ nexus wars please add me in game :) Either Marc512 or Overdrive :)

I have streamed a game with working bots. http://www.twitch.tv/iamoverdrive/b/387360824 Bots are not perfect but they give us a good idea on balance for units. But reality is, humans vs humans would always be better against bots :)

We have already posted on sc2 mapster but no responses :\

http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/pl...128-tug-of-war-tech-wars-2-testers-needed/#p2

For the past couple of months, me and a mate have been developing a SC2 map that is essentially a remake of Tech Wars in WC3, but to a much higher level of quality and with lots more cool things. Anyway, we've finally got to the point where we think we should bring some outside people in to test it with us. We've made some AI, and it works pretty nicely but it's obviously not the same as playing against humans, so we could use some help :)

Quick summary:

- 3v3 in 3 lanes

- Build buildings that autospawn units

- Controlling technology, by having more units than the enemy near some pylons in the centre, unlocks more units.

- Units go to the nearest tech, then to the nearest tech to the enemy, then to the enemy. So you can build to back up your allies but your units will only help you DESTROY your own opponent.

- Destroy the enemy bases to win.

- Buy harvesters to increase your income.

- Working (but not that challenging) AI

- Quite a few custom units and other things

What we need help with: - BALANCING. This is the main thing. There are definitely some units that are far too powerful in certain situations, but it's hard to identify them playing against bots.

- Bugs. We can generally find most bugs ourselves, but obviously the more people looking, the better.

- Suggestions. We've really left the map open to fairly indefinite expansion, so any suggestions are welcome, and if they're good we may well include them.

My ID is snazzman#349 on EU, the other developer of this map is called marc512 on here and he's Overdrive (will add # later), also on EU. It's probably best to just post here though because we aren't on bnet unless we're testing this map basically.

Thanks a lot, Alex

The look like your typical f1,f2&f3 keys with a different symbol nothing more!

But presumably he has them mapped in game to something race-specific, otherwise what's the point? I've seen a lot of people with macro keyboards switch the three mode buttons with each race so they have race-specific macro setups by pressing the corresponding button. One guy I saw used the grid of macro keys for his hotkeys and used his thumb for Ctrl and Shift (the macro keys being on the left side of the keyboard). Looked pretty sweet.

lolwat, they are just keycaps. They look better. I have rainbow coloured keycaps, im not going to set them to change the colour of my desktop background every time i click them though am i :P

 I know what keycaps are.......

I said "presumably he has them mapped in game to something race-specific" meaning that he has went into the hotkeys menu in starcraft and mapped F1-F3 to some specific action for each race that he will use in game. Not such a hard concept to grasp, is it really?

If he hasn't done that then I don't really see the point in using the keycaps, cool though they are, on those keys since they're just gonna be idle worker etc (i've no idea what F2 and F3 do by default). If I was gonna use those keycaps I would use them on the kind of thing I mentioned in my previous post so that the visual cue on the key matches the action mapped to it. Maybe use the zerg one on your inject larvae hotkey.... that kinda thing.

Anyone got any tips for diamond level TvZ? I have a 100% win rate against Terran, 80% against Protoss but only 40% against zerg (out of 25-30 games). I'm finding mutas much harder to deal with as zergs seem much more on top of drops these days. Speedvacs don't help that much since the large distance between bases means that mutas will still catch them running away. I can sorta trade semi-evenly with zerg through the mid game but when ultras come out i die every time. Those things are so damn strong now I don't know how to deal with them.

Previously I'd just get MMM and keep marines at the front and ultras weren't much of an issue but now they just tear apart everything on the ground. Anyone got any advice? I've been opening up with a reaper expand into a +1, stim, combat shield, 2 medivac bio push off 2 bases. That's so far never managed to kill them off, so from there I just go into standard bio play with some mines added. Like i said, it works on through the midgame but then dies in the late game.

To defend against mutas you can leave small squads of marines with a medivac in your main to deflect them and then remove them when you push out, also when playing V muta add on turrets as the game goes on if he commits to mutas and produces more so double up and triple up on turrets and replace lost ones.

Against ultralisks your prehive timing has got to be solid, usually a 2-2 timing around the 14 minute mark with a good army consisting of either marine tank or mostly marine marauder mines, however you are naturally going to want to be more marine heavy which is why if you miss your prehive timing ultralisks will rip you apart, as you play more you'll understand the game and you will start to read your opponent better and get an idea of when he is going hive. If you see his muta flock getting much bigger you can be pretty sure he wont be going hive soon etc, nothing is wrong with throwing down some scans 12-13 mins+ to try and scout the hive and ultra cavern and you should always be preparing for everything so you should have techlab raxes a minimum of 4 and as people did in WOL was also 2-3 starports, you should still eventually add on these starports as some people do go broodlords but a key component against ultralisks late game is a good medivac count so you can use these to increase and replenish your medivac count quickly. If you need any help or replays checked over and im not busy hit me up in game at EGWHEAT.911

Cheers mate, good advice. I'll take up that offer sometime :)

Surely every silver player and above has f1 to f4 remapped to cameras!

I tried remapping them recently and I unmapped my select all idle workers... was a nightmare in games, idle probes everywhere!

Is OcUK channel gonna be more active recently? I see a few people and no one ever wants to play team games :(

Not really - from what I can determine 80%-90% of players don't even use camera hotkeys at all. Personally I have them mapped to the 1-8 number keys (where control groups are by default).

I'm up for games but dont have much time. I'll check the channel next time I'm on and if i see you there i'll message you :). You should remap select idle worker to ` which to clarify is the key above TAB and left of the 1 key.

I'll need to join the OcUK channel as I got HoTS for my birthday and just currently playing through the campaign with a few AI matches thrown in. I have a feeling I'm going to find it tough incorporating in the new Terran units, however auto siege mode is pretty handy :)

Select army key: ` (to the left of 1)
Idle worker key: \
Camera Keys: F1-F8

Play 1's and you will get much more of a response. Team games are only good for massing CC's and nicking your allies expansions as everyone is so terrible at them, or you just heavy cheese every game for an incredibly easy run to Masters.

How is timing attacks cheese?

Cheese, All-in, Timing Attacks.

They have loose definitions but a timing attack is not a cheese. It's more of an economical all-in because if you choose not to attack when let's say you do a 2-2 2base timing attack then you're way behind usually in economy.

I'd call quick early game attacks where it's completely and utterly all-in without a chance if you don't do damage or don't attack a cheese.

However there are timings that are easy to transition out of.
