**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I'd suggest going Mech although that's because I dislike bio TvZ. Most pros are using Bio+Mine and only going siege tanks if completely necessary.

Ultras are so strong now you have to play really well against them to win on even upgrades. I'd suggest Mines+Marauders, you can't shun that 125 damage even if it doesn't hit the Ultra and takes out 15-20lings XD

I would suggest you still open with Hellion/Banshee if you're good enough with it. A round of WMs after the first Hellions make roach pushes weaker and easier for a single Banshee to clean up.

I've never had much luck with mech. What's your typical mid-game composition? How do you put on aggression and when do you push and expand?

Getting a bit frustrated with cheesing protoss at Diamond masters level. I'm only in plat but getting placed vs these a lot and they're nearly always proxy 2 gating me or cannon rushing. The time I scout my first gate is nearly done. Do I build a second gate and try and get as many zealots out vs proxy? and on cannon rushes do I pull 8 probes, as they nearly always have 2 probes building cannons at 2 locations...

I play Thor/Hellbat/Raven but if I get weary due to mass-Roach I'll throw in tanks as a precaution.

Hellbat drops really do wipe out mineral lines and also Hellion runbys aren't too shabby.

I expand once to my third after I've figured out what the Zerg is doing. Mutas require more Thors/Turrets and roaches require Tanks. There isn't really much else you'll see.

Try and block your ramp then deny higher ground vision with a quick stalker if you can.

no widow mines?

finally had a chance to play this game for several hours today. (previously only managed short sessions). result: 3 promotions :)

plat -> diamond 1v1
gold -> plat 3v3
plat -> diamond 4v4

im already master 2v2. just need to get 3v3 and 4v4 up to master as well then ill focus my full attention on 1v1. wanna reach master before LoV which should be too hard given it'll be probably 18months minimum before that comes out.

Reinstalled this recently, 24 patches to download

I've got two ways to go here.

One - stop playing this game all together due to lack of time to practise/improve and then be able to relax!

Two - give up work/kids/wife etc and become better

What do you think? :D:D

Another annoying couple of days where I felt that I scouted better and had better map control but my micro was awful. Even had one guy comment that I had awful micro as I should have won with my early push but made some terrible micro and lost about 3 mins later!

Hugely frustrating as I just don't have the time to spend at the moment working/improving etc.

As I'm sure you're well aware SC2 has a very high skill cap (much like Quake et al), and therefore there will inevitably be a lot of people that are a lot better at it than you. There will also be a limit to how good you can get with the time you have available (and most probably even if you had unlimited time). To you all I can say is that it's only a game, and therefore probably not worth you getting too frustrated over it! Hopefully the matching system (which is one of the better ones I've come across) will have you winning 50% of games eventually and you'll be having fun :)

^^ I know - i don't get to hung up on it but it's still the most frustrating/long lasting/briliant game I've ever played.

Haha I know what you mean, I never actually played the first Starcraft properly (was more of a C&C and TA player) but when I picked up SC2 on release I regretted not playing the first one! I do find the ranked games can get stressful though, I had more fun playing with all my friends at work at lunch times (though they've stopped playing now :( ).

Many of my friends had stopped playing WoL, but since HoTS there has been a bit of a resurgence. It's already starting to drop off again though :( I don't see HoTS having the same presence / longevity that WoL did.

I know what you mean booyaka, I'm a full time third year uni student with an almost full time job and everytime I go on a losing streak I realise how poor I am in many aspects of my game. I just shrug it off, as I don't have time to play every hour of every day to get better. So I just enjoy when I do get some things right, go on sort of a winning streak and gain promotions etc.

Does anyone have slow down in this game?

Im on a i5 3570k, 8gb ram and nvidia 670 but I get this like slow down time effect then the game shoots back up to 60 fps.. game ran a lot better on my old system :(
