**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

edit - How do you hold units but allow them to attack from where they are (like a line of defence) I hate it when units run in/follow the enemy after an attack and end up dieing because they wondered off with no backup

Hold position (H)

Indie, Krono, other Zerg players - when playing a Protoss what build order do you find hardest to play against? I still haven't decided what build order I'm going to use later for the tourney game. It'd probably be best to get some ideas on what a Zerg is uncomfortable with vs Protoss.

hmm to be honest i always base my build on whatever toss is doing providing i can scout it..

I do however always seem to struggle when Toss does a timing push with immortals. I either dont have enough units to fend them off, or my tech is slightly late and thus pointless.

one bit of advise from watching your games last night, might be worth scouting his main more, and attacking sooner.
The games vs. Angel you could have killed him when you had 1 immortal out.
think you had 2-3 sentries as well. use 1 for the shield, and 2 for your blocks. your units would have ripped through his small army.
May as well put pressure on if hes lacking units.

I hate proxy pylons, other than that I think I'm quite comfortable against Toss.
Early aggression buggers me up a bit too, because I'm a fairly greedy Zerg player. (although this all depends on the size of the map)

I've seen a lot of Toss players go voidrays for some reason against me. Maybe they are having a fair bit of success with that against other zerg players.
But if you go Voids against me I am very confident I can win (throw down an extra queen per hatch, a spore crawler in each mineral line and start pumping Hydras whilst waiting for my spire to complete).

TBH I think at this point you need to stick with what your comfortable with. If you go into the Tournament match trying something new, that you haven't practiced much with then you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.

I think your only real weaknesses (when playing against me) are an all in rush (hopefully your better prepared for that now) and against Mutas.

Just make sure you do a bit of scouting and keep that scouting prob alive.

NB
You have gas blocked me a few times in the past. As a Zerg I find this to be only a small irritation because my first units produced are lings, queen, spine crawlers. My next building produced is a roach warren & hatch, none of this costs gas, so you are only delaying me a small amount. Also you have to cover both gas because I would not build my second gas until about the same time it takes for my queen and crawlers to take out a single gas.

Gas blocking is more effective against Toss and Terran, who need it quite early on.

That has got to win some sort of award for geekiest post on the Internet. :p

I know gas stealing isn't effective at all against Zerg, I just do it to annoy people. :p

Usually I try to cancel it but I always forget lol.

Yeah Manloves given the best advice there, keep with what your comfortable with, don't bother busting out new moves because it probs won't work due to not being practised.

Also, probs best you dont even bother blocking it. Zerg only need 1 gas to pump out 100 for their speedlings, and we'll normally have 6 lings after the pool is done anyway, so its just a waste :)

Continue to do it to Terran/Protoss though :)

When you did it against me the other night I didn't even attack them until they were complete. I wanted you to pay the full cost ;)

My standard play against toss is to build into mutas (if you hadn't noticed ;)) This is because the Immortal hard counters the roach and the colossus hard counters lings/hydras and Templars psi storm is more effective against the ground units than the mutas and mutas negate the sentries most powerful spell (force field) Which means I can back off my main army and snipe your spell casters, then send my main army in to mop up (simple in theory). Also the spire allows me to build corrupters which are good against colossus and eventually Broodlords which are great against all ground units.

Also the Spire takes ages to complete so I build that as early as I can, and then if the need arises I can throw down a Hydra den to change my tactics as required (Hydra dens do not take that long to build)

I have noticed I need 4-5 gas to make an effective Muta army and 5-8 gas to make an effective Broodlord/Ultra army.

PvP is definitely my worst matchup. Just lost 3 ladder games in a row against Protoss. Don't know how to beat them. :/

One was a cannon rush mind which I absolutely despise.

With the big patching thread on TL saying servers were down I didn't bother logging in again although it seems to have been a false alarm and nothing changed at all.

no worries dude, think we stopped after the 2nd anyway, or i played Jelly.Zerg for a while.. 2-1 to him so far! my old arch rival :p

And you're letting him beat you 2-1, tsk tsk! With your ZvT concerns, have you ever played a ling + baneling into mutas build? It seems really popular with the Asian zergs and the terran MMM ball can die horribly to it even when well controlled. I'm not sure it works too well vs a fast hellion or viking opening though.

Just started playing SC1 recently. Missed it first time round, but im enjoying it.

With the beta of SC2, are all game opponents selected randomly, or can you play against friends?

Ive destroyed a huge MMM ball with burrowed bandlings before. I had one hidden zergling and saw a big wave coming over the map. I unborrowed a group of bandlings and took a load of them out then finished them with lings.

How do you keep your army in a formation then attack like that? I wanted to line up the bandlings then attack all in line to do the most damage but didnt know how.

Can play against friends or enter ranked matches with who you want as a teammate

The best part about that vid is the idiot doesn't realise they don't send a key by email, they just notify you the beta has been activated in your b.net account. It's probably fake, but if it's real she's an idiot.

There is no game mechanic which does this, you just have to micro manage your units.
