I'd disagree. IdrA hasn't done anything in so long and I'm pretty sure they paid him quite a bit. Stephano also hasn't done much recently and I bet he gets paid a bit.

I think this opens up EG to improve their attitude in the US house and also pick up some good Koreans maybe.

EG getting good Koreans? Seems unlikely :o.

Even Idra thinks EG were paying him too much :D.

Except making money comes from popular western players, big losses for their sc2 division

Disagree.

Korea is such a big part of SC2 that it doesn't matter whether you're a Korean or a foreigner when it comes to attracting fans. Those people who're Anti-Korean are a very small group.

TBH EG's SC2 players are all quite lackluster, there are a few good ones but they've failed to do anything as of late and are being pummeled in Proleague. Some fresh blood may help but those last 2 Koreans they got were out of the bargain bin after Fnatic basically died.
Blizzard aren't helping, they're just making it easier for it to become like BW where Koreans were the only ones earning.

I dont really think you can say EG are about the winning tbh, more about the drama and the marketing. The bubble will burst though, Idra and Incontrol basically admitted their contracts were laughably high ... they can continue to pump awful results but the money will eventually dry up.

Hey, it's an American team. What do you expect? XD

There is a reason idra was on so much money, it isn't people are anti korean, it is the fact they just don't give a **** about koreans as much, idra pulls them money and so does Stephano. Who they got left now Incontrol and HuK(who does like **** all for EG as far as I see).

If that's what you want to believe XD

I don't believe that Stephano and IdrA brought lots of money. IdrA did at the start and Stephano was already past his prime when he got to EG.

Idra brang a lot of money from his stream alone, he was averaging 6k or something recently (having gone down since Demuslim got ok and overtook him), that alone probably brang more (not necessarily directly from Twitch revenue, I don't know who gets that, just from showing sponsors to all the viewers after every game and stuff) into EG than most of the Koreans did (other than Jae Dong they're generally around 500ish viewers). You can't really argue that Twitch viewer numbers aren't important since all EG players have to stream a minimum amount of hours, so obviously EG (because of their sponsors) care about this.

Proleague doesn't get a massive amount of viewers, and even the people that watch that would have to be split between all the players to work out how much each was worth.

When it comes to going to events most of the EG Koreans do badly (apart from maybe DreamHack where the competition is generally poor other than a few) so don't get much/any air time for sponsors (and I never notice Koreans mentioning their sponsors in interviews and stuff like the foreign players do).

Then there's the other stuff he's on like the weekly show they do (Inside the Game?), casting occasionally etc.

He might not bring in the most money, but he certainly brings in a decent amount.

Winning things doesn't necessarily mean you'll get more money from sponsors than bad players who have a "personality" because of how bad a portion of the community are. Idra is/was basically an entertainer like Destiny rather than an actual competitor (although he obviously didn't want to admit this to himself until recently, the same as it took Incontrol ages to admit he couldn't compete), and as far as casual viewers watching player streams and stuff on Twitch go, they'd rather watch entertainers who'll rage/talk and joke with the stream/explain what they're doing than top players just grinding out games on ladder with no interaction/talking etc.

Edit: 4.3k viewers average actually, the nearest Korean was JD with 1.6k average, Stephano averaged 7k and even Incontrol averaged more than the Koreans with 2.3k.

to me it just looks like EG take players while they are in their prime and then turn them into robots. HuK, IdrA etc had really good runs back in WoL days but now their rarely competing.

Still making a lot of money out of them now (well.. not now should I say!) - as its already been said, people want to watch a player with personality, somebody that will take the time to explain what they are doing, or have a lot of character over stream, intraction etc... Its fine watching Code S Koreans... but its boring at the same time! Which is why they dont get the viewers the likes of Idra get..

I checked his stream last night... had 11k viewing...

Okay, they just gave idra which as far he knew was the largest contract in SC2 out of the goodness of their heart. (Considering Huk was 6 figures before I am quite shocked but he has no reason to lie)

He made them money by being a hugely polarizing figure, people loved cheering him events and they loved when he lost, he pulled the viewers, he made the money. I wouldn't be surprised if he is back doing work for them in a few months.

You'll have to explain to me where the dong is making them more money, I mean his stream gets less viewers, proleague doesn't get THAT many viewers and he isn't in advertisements like HuK was for kingston etc or doing the things like inside the game, state of the game

I think you'll find Flash probably gets paid a lot more now than IdrA ever has.

Okay, going of what idra said, so say you have 2-3 larger salary earners than idra in SC2 (I imagine the other actually earning that salary from BW) you are still left with no one making more money for EG, if they were, they'd be rewarded for it.
