**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I was just playing a ranked game and this message came up in the game...

'you were dropped'

choices were either surrender or return to game

edit - the ranking system is well knackered. I just played a 2 vs 2 game where the opponents were favoured. This was in 40th bronze league. We won and came 1st and at the end it said, based on you you have been reclassified to another league - copper, now im in 50th. What the hell???

Current phase of beta ending on May 31st. Will be down for "several weeks" :( "We plan to bring the beta test back online for a couple of weeks prior to the game’s launch to complete our testing."

Several weeks could mean 5 or 6 then, as the release date is 27th July.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got the beta and I started with a few unranked matches as protoss :P managed to get my rear end handed to me on a platter very successfully, and even when I tried zerg I got shown how it was done by a proper player =(

Tbh it's the same issue I had in SC1, everyone seems to make more of everything, much faster. Nevertheless, I'm sure some perseverance will pay off ;)

anybody else feel the better is far from finished ? , then there is bnet2 which still needs a lot of work tbh

They will be making a lot of updates to it, and the better :D will be back up.
Will see what changes occur after the shutdown. I imagine it'll head more in the direction of having better matchups, with stronger server power and capacity as well as framework updates on the software side.

can only guess with respect to other features at this point.. speculation is open :D

i think i've improved my ZvP a little more now, but im still getting beat by the standard MMM ball from Terrans in Gold League :(, think i need to be producing more units, but then again i can't with that roach pop nerf, so annoying! ZvZ seems to be much better as well! that the onyl good thing the roach nerf has done ^^

Try a game where you make nothing but hydras and lings and see how it goes. :p

This might not be possible now but during my first game my opponent dropped 30 odd stalkers into the back of my base. I'm not sure if this was using blink or what, they then moved out and back in. When I have tried blink its pretty useless, moving stalkers only a bit.

Did my opponent use a warp-in/link combo or something to achive this. Or maybe a warp prism?

Warp prism or proxy pylon would be my guess. Stalkers cant blink where they dont have LoS, so unless there was a scout probe or something in your base, its the only option.

Stalker: move, [shift],blink,[shift],move <--- This allows you to move a hell of a lot of stalkers very quickly and efficiently.

Stalkers can only move to places they can see and are not occupied by other units. The above blink move command allows a constant stream of stalkers to teleport in from point a to point b without getting in each others way.

As you can tell from last nights games, I'm not the greatest gamer in the world, and my 1v1 game is way more mature than my 2v2 (which was more or less a brainfart last night)

I've more or less cut roaches out of my PvZ games I might make 4 at the beginning to block my ramp, and more later on if there is a need, but other than that I try to stick to mass speedlings and hydras, and eventually transitioning into corrupters + Broodlords

In ZvT, (which is my weakest match) I'm trying to make more use of Infesters and blings But still sticking to the mass speedling and hydra attack, with roaches built early to prevent any pushes, and maybe built late if his unit composition forces my hand. That ming said uber mass speed blings is a sight to behold :D. Again my final transition is into Corrupters and Broodlords

I had such a brain fart in our last 2v2 game. I built a tonne of lings, and knew their Zerg had a ling contain on me, but didn't send an Ovie out to see the extent of his ling army (or to keep an eye out for blings). I then thought "I know, blings, build about 10 send them out, contain over." I hit e 4 times and in rolled an army of his blings.... Doh!.

Had I sent the Ovie out to see whats what, I may have assessed that I had enough lings to go toe to toe in a ling battle sooner, or made my front lings blings, to take the brunt of the bling bust, whilst cocoons (and moving my blings back), also an infester or 2 with fungal growth & Infested terran would have been awesome. But you know what they say Hindsight is 20/20. Just got to keep learning from my mistakes.

Sorry, could someone explain the 'move, shift, blink, shift, move' thing to me please. When I tried this it didnt work.

go on lost temple

make a bunch of stalkers and move them to the center of the map (near one of the 4 walls in the middle of the map)

Select all of your stalkers
click to move them to one side of the wall
quickly press shift then the blink hotkey (I'm assuming its B) and click on the other side of the wall
then quickly click to move to somewhere else (Your still holding shift correct)

Once you have mastered this (it may take a few attempts) You should see all of your stalkers walk up to the wall, blink through it and walk off to wherever you pointed.

If you mess it up, some stalkers will be on one side of the wall and some will be on the other

Edit, whilst your practicing (and if your APM is slow) then its best to practice this using longer distances i.e. start from your base. tell your stalkers to move to the wall, press shift+blink, press shift+ move to some other base. Then reduce the distances until you can do it really quickly, seamlessly and consistently

Is it possible to have a practice game just vs ai?

If so will this be available when the beta is taken down?

Thanks manlove and mart, will try later

Yes, go into matchmaking, on the right hand side about middle to bottom of the screen there is create match. Click on that

The chose your map (lost temple) and change the teams to 1v1, then on the top middle there is a +AI button press that

The AI is stupidly easy. I don't honestly believe it could beat you if you walked away from your screen. So you can basically practice anything you want.

I've just completed my 2v2 qualifying games and been assigned silver league.

I tried playing 1v1 but it just wasn't as exciting as 2v2. Any idea why 3v3 and 4v4 aren locked?
