**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

For **** sake this is retarded I always loose to zerg, help me out here guys.

Im terran, plat league.

Their early mass mutas get me or their bloody zerg worm spawn inside my base rush owns me >_<

What opener for zergs should I use

Post replays.

If you see a spire build an engineering bay and build some turrets. Stimmed marines will hold off mutas pretty well as well.

Gonna post some replays later i seem to do amazingly crap no matter what i try do. Ive got my opening macro down pretty much but after that i cant seem to get a foot hold with any strategy. Playing as terran btw.

idra lost the second game even if it was a macro game. Tarson clearly outplayed him and he deserved to win the tournament. btw if the terran spams marauders he loses instantly to mutas.

It was a macro game where morrow had a massive advantage entering it.

And yeah, Mauauders lose to mutas, but mutas lose to marines + medivacs.

In the context of a fast paced game, going mass reaper whose counter is roach, to mass marine marauder, is damn hard to counter unless you have an economic advantage. And the reaper opener is so effective because it denies the zerg larvae and drones.

I've converted to the dark side :D I think I played alright that game except for poor micro when attacking his base, wasted the reaper (I got no scouting info) and poor turret placement allowed his observer to keep an eye on me.

If someone could watch it and give some advice that'd be appreciated.

Wow played like 8 games. Got absolutely trashed in 6 of them didnt even bother saving replays i got completely steam rollered no idea how. Most were TvT and nothing i tried worked in the slightest somehow they always knew what i was making even without scouting...

The 2 i won one was just luck and the other i outplayed him pretty well with MMM. Getting pretty annoyed with it i dont know how to get close to beating these people and its only bronze league.

Check out my replay. It's a nice terran build.

By the way your last 10 replays get automatically saved. Upload a couple :)

Long time OCUK forum reader, first time poster. :)

Anyway having not played any sort of strategy games ever before this game got me hooked too, and i too found myself struggling in the bronze league for a while. Still not very good but i have worked my way up to Platinum.

Strangely i think it wasn't strategy at all that got me up through the leagues, it was basic mechanics. I used to queue up my probes and get supply blocked way too often, just learning to change these habits helped no end.

Think of the game a bit like an instrument of some sort where you need to stay in rhythm, and staying in rhythm basically means having one SCV (only one mind, queuing up SCV's is bad) constantly building all game long, using all your command centres energy with mules and not ever getting supply blocked. Once i started really focusing on this i suddenly found that i could make a lot more units and therefore win a lot more games. :)

Finaly got around to doing my first placement match, PvT and I played sooooo so badly, however I won almost by default.

He turtled and went Marauders and Tanks, I went for a standard zealot/stalker/sentry however he walled himself in with bunkers and tanks, so I went back to base, expanded and started pumping out Void Rays.

Now, because I didn't get a chance to scout his base when he was building the damn things, I was unprepared for the 4 cloaked banshees that popped up and ruined my expansion. At this stage my stalker and ray force was enough to fight off any air assault....except for cloaking, which I could do nothing about as I didn't have a robo facility....

Luckily for me I suppose I had 8 Void Rays by this point and when his cloak ran out I nuked down his current banshee force in my base, he had more but whatever, I was able to take everything he had out without losing a single ship.

What did I learn?

BUILD A GOD DAMN OBSERVER. Wouldn't really have changed much as the game was over as soon as he attacked as that fast forwarded my own void ray attack, he had no anti air except for about 4 marines, would have saved me some stress though.

Honestly, if you want to improve start watching Starcraft 2 as well as playing..

Ah don't worry, I'm watching as many replays as I can get my hands on, however at the moment I'm quite happy being awful, makes my many small improvements seem that little bit more worth it.

Ugh can anyone give me tips for the Brutal campaign? I'm replaying it for the achievement, but whilst I've done the first 5 with relative ease I'm getting bogged down and likely to abandon it way before the unimaginable carnage that is 'All In'.

so who is this nada guy? I am new to starcraft but since playing 2 i have learnt of idra and TLO and marrow. But i never heard of this nada guy. Apparently he is a big deal but hasnt been playing sc2 as hardcore as the other guys. Yet he still managed to take a game off TLO?

i wish there was more than one single player storyline

ive still yet to play any game online, so games seem shorter and shorter these days
They are releasing the game as a trilogy, each race's storyline will be an add-on. Kings of generating $$$.

Old skool SC player, hasn't really played SC2 much.

Nada is the michael jordan of StarCraft. He won 5 sc pro-league titles. He's no longer top of the top flight pro though (not many people are after their mandatory national service). But he is a god among men.

Shame about the Kespa nonsense.

Kespa are the Fifa of starcraft in Korea apparently. Kespa caught all their players with hookers and lots of coke and mdma so decided to fire them all! *

*Might be false information.

I always do. Wall off. Barracks, reactor on barracks, factory, swap barracks and factory pump hellions. Get Starport > Viking go overlord hunting. Tech to thors make push with lots of marines, viking thors. If he goes roaches get a couple of thors and banchees. If he goes spire get thors/marines and vikings.

Nada is the player IdrA looks up to.

When asked by Droobie in game why he does not switch to Terran
IdRA said:
"I have too much respect"

You don't know Idra very well. How he responded is exactly how he reponds to everything. Same tone, same demeanor, he answers like that to every question. He doesn't switch to terran because he doesn't want to switch to the flavour of the month race that is the most overpowered at that time, they will be nerfed eventually. Might as well stick with what you're good at, and his play style suits zerg.

And yes, terran is overpowered early game. Notice how zerg have absolutely zero chance to put any sort of pressure on at the start. Terran can go 3/5 rax reaper, fast banshees, all sorts of hellion pushes. The zerg can only fight to survive past the early pressure. If the zerg makes 1 mistake (like Idra did in the final game putting down a baneling nest) then he loses. The terran make as many mistakes as he wants because his early attack can easily do enough damage with very little effort so the zerg can't pressure back. Zerg can only really pressure once they have mutas up, which take forever. One race shouldn't have a 100% chance of ending the game early in any matchup, it's just not fair to zerg that they have to fight so hard just to survive and get a chance at a midgame.

TBH you have not quite given the ZvT matchup its full justice.. Not only does Zerg have no viable options in the early game other than defending for their lives, by the time we transition into our mid-game, Terran is in transition into their lategame units. We are effectively always 1 tier behind Terran (and often against Protoss too). This means we are not only always playing catchup but we are always 1 step away from defeat.
Everyone says Zerg can expand at will. Well thats not true, we need to creep between bases to ensure we have the mobility to combat Banshee/Viking/VR/Phoenix harass. We need to keep our units in a single clump in order to hold off any aggression. Terran can build their CC in base then float it anywhere on the map (islands or behind destructable rocks, etc) and get going. To defend it a couple of tanks and a few missile turrets are usually good enough to delay until the calvary comes.

Zerg. 1 queen per expo a few spine crawlers and a spore crawler (the making of which dents our economy and stalls unit production) :(

Zerg is underpowered. Terran is overpowered. Protoss is somewhere in the middle.
