**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

thanks - yes - guessed that was the way to do it but was so annoyed at the cheesy tactics that i was not thinking straight!!

A lot of cheese isn't actually all that powerful, but relies on the shock/annoyance/rage of it happening and that the opponent has never seen it before. I almost always lose to a cheese the first time it happens against me, but generally after thinking about it for a bit (or looking on Teamliquid.net if I can't think of anything), I'll normally never lose to it again. There are some cheeses that are just plain strong though which take scouting, practice and good play to do well against.

can't macro much when i was getting attacked by his drones inside 1 min!!

A good way Day[9] said to practise something like this would be to open up a custom game with just yourself and do your build like normal. When you are ready to scout with a worker, take your scouting worker and micro it around some small obstacles on the map (no shift-queuing allowed). While doing this, macro like you would normally. Not only will this practise help against this kind of strat, it's going to allow you to be more effective at early worker harassment and get you better scouting info as your early macro will be automatic after a while.

Cheers, I think I'll try it on both OSX and W7, but I think it will probably work better on Windows because it has directx. :)

Yeah i use W7, rarely have any probs! .. and mainly because i dislike anything apple related!.. bit of an anti-apple maniac! :D

You can sneak off 1 scv to create a proxy rax and 1-2 marines which can just slowly kill his base.

If he brings his scv blob back to defend then get mining quick and build a bunker near his base to protect your couple of marines. With your scv's mining again you should be able to pump out marines constantly and wipe him out.

no i said MICRO not MACRO....big difference. you can easily micro 6/7 drones effectively and thats all it comes down to - who can push their injured units back quick enough to be effective....obviously hes pretty good at it.

i dont know why people are saying build a rax...you wont have any money!

I went and did it. I have re-rolled zerg as I found Terran so incredibly boring and I kinda couldn't be arsed to play much before. My 1v1 rating is slowly dropping, prob's gna get demoted all the way to bronze at this rate! :p.

Did anyone have a chance to watch the GSL today?
Some damn good games! Boxer made his first SC2 appearance and people went mad!
I was watching from Fishers live stream and he shot up from 4000 viewers to over 12,000 for his game.
After that i forked out £12 for the seasons live casts and VoDs. seems like a bargain for the amount of high quality games i can watch.

+1 more people should do this! :D

Don't blame them.. Boxer is a legend.. man is amazing! Remember watching his replays loooads when I was younger.. by far my favourite player of possibly all time!

I went on a 15 losing streak or something like that but just won my last 2 zvz's which im happy about. Think im about to get dropped into plat or something tho, im no longer gaining or losing points in my games -.-.

Btw indie, I keep getting battered by protoss early pushes whether it be a 4gate or some gateway units with 1 or 2 immortals. What do you advice all mighty one ^^?

I'm showing as undefined...and then it said I had 5 placement matches to play again...

something going on?

Yea had that problem a bit earlier, probably just a problem with blizzard servers. I wouldnt worry :) seems to have come back for me now.

Might be blizzard working on the points problem..:D

lol mighty one.. ^^

Well, firstly you need to scout it, get yourself an overseer ASAP.. or suicide an overlord to see waht their doing.. 4gate is a very tough strat to counter.. For me it normally involves a hell of a lot of Zerglings with a couple of roaches mixed in.

either way, you'll need a few spine crawlers at your expansion, loads fo zerglings, and a few roaches.. above all, spread your creep! As soon as they move in for the kill, surround them with everything.
I'll see if i can find some replays of this actually working :) might be easier to explain. Basically, you have to abuse your early map control. 12 zerglings running around them in sight should be enough to stall them to get your T1.5-T2 units out.

You basically have to sacrifice your economy for more units to fend it off. so, build less drones, more stuff to attack :)

I have had some luck in holding them off. Ive been putting 3/4 spine crawlers at the ramp and roaches/lings behind it then slowly go hydra/roach seems to be working abit. Had one guy attack me early with 2 void rays and some zealots and I held that off. Then I basically lost myself the game by staying on 2 bases! :(

Got to admit I quite like zvz, ive had a fairly decent success rate with that matchup. Ive won about 5 games today, started at 1300 diamond now about 1100 diamond. Talk about getting thrown into the deep end!

Is it just me or did the Zurg all of sudden get serious airpower? I played a guy last night and with literally NO ground units he just walked all over me with the winged/webbed flying unit and lots of them.

anybody gold/diamond fancy a 1v1? ( currently i'm gold )

Im always up for some games, need all the practise i can get! what race are you?

Yeah, Hydra/Roach is much stronger now due to the range buff. Puts T1-T2 combo's into a bracket that can actually be on par with the other two races.

Best thing i could do really is watch you play some.. throw some replays up if you like.

check this one out, quite a decent game. ZvP

Gives you some idea of how powerful roach/hdyra/ling is... also how important flanking is.

Mutalisks. They shouldn't really be used as a mass attack group albeit extreamly powerfull, because the lack in ground units leaves Zerg vulnerable early game.. Just attack them earlier and they'll have no chance. IIRC its about 8-9 minutes in.. just before their spire pops out :)

I use mutalisks for early game harassment and contain.. which then allows me to drone spam and either pump more units, tech up, or expand. I only ever use between 6-8 mutas, anymore in my honest opinion is a waste.

The counter for them is Thor's & Marines as Terran works the best. mix in a few hellion for his zerglings.
Protoss should think about going stalkers with sentry guardian shield -OR- Pheonix.

I've ordered this today, I couldn't hold back any longer! I should be here by Tues I'm hoping..

Has anyone tried this under OSX? Would running it under OSX give any more FPS compared to Windows 7 or is it pretty neck and neck?

Also, will an 8800gt cope at 1900 x 1200?

I don't know if an 8800gt will cope with full details at that res but on medium it should be more than fine. I run mine at medium anyway despite having a pretty beef pc rig (4ghz core 2 / radeon 5870 / 4gb). There's less distracting effects to worry about. Playing with the health bars on does impact performance though and I like to have them on all the time.

On the mac it runs playable with a 2009 13" macbook pro with 2.53 core 2, geforce 9400m (low/medium settings). And by playable, it's more than 30fps most of the time.

The newer macbooks, and certainly the mac pros should handle it without breaking a sweat. The game runs faster in bootcamp though than OSX (maybe by around 15-20%). But the difference is narrowing all the time as OSX graphics subsystem improvements trickle in.
