**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

As a curious by-product of Bnet not wanting to promote me, sc2ranks.com has me as the 41st "best" platinum in the world (13th in Europe). http://sc2ranks.com/eu/826660/Houd. With other people being promoted and hopefully me continuing to gain points I wonder how high I can get before I get promoted (if that ever comes, I'm beginning to wonder!).

Well I've played around 30 practice games now, so I'll be on the ladder soon with any luck. Just 20 more to go...

Constantly produce scvs and mules. Really at the lower levels it is far more important that you have more units than it is particularly what units they are (within reason). To do this you need to be absolutely maximising your economy at all times. This cannot be stressed enough! Even in the heat of battle carry on producing them (hotkeys help with this a lot). I'd recommend practising against computers to get this into your head.

Linked to the above, always aim to be broke :p. Unspent resources are wasted resources, so always spend them. Find you have 400 minerals? Expand. Are you producing from every unit producing building and still resources are building up? Build more. Excess gas? Upgrades. Anything, just spend it. It's at this stage where you can find out for yourself how many barracks/factories/starports you can support off one base.

Never get supply blocked. Fairly obvious, and it happens to all of us, but if it is happening regularly then you are screwing yourself over.

Never queue units, you're basically just having unspent resources by another name.

Thanks, it does sound like I need to change things a little, i must admit I do get supply blocked quite a lot and it is very annoying to say the least. I'll try and keep an eye on those numbers in the top right of the screen more... Today I've completed the single player challenges, and there was one where you have to make a load of units in less than 15 mins, and I've recently managed to beat it with the gold achievement so I think I may be improving... Before I would struggle to get the bronze achievement....

So yeah :), this is probably amongst the hardest games you could possibly play, so don't be put off by losing a lot. It will take time to improve and you'll have plenty of fun along the way :).

I'm not the sort of person to use cheese like a PF rush every game, I just wanted to pull it off once... Even if I did fail quite a few times in trying! :o

That day9 site is great, so many videos, and he really does seem to know this game inside out.

You do know that you can skip the practise league games and go straight into your placements? :)

There should be a button for it on the main "multiplayer" page.

also to add friends you need their battlenet ID and their ID Number.

If you hover ovr your portrait at the top right, you should get your 3 digit ID number. You then stick them both together, separated with a dot!

For example, mine is Luxotican.425

Anyone fancy some 4v4? Need to elevate myself beyond silver 14. Fed up of being teamed with 3 people each doing their own thing!

Anyone been having problems with bnet today? Got to round 4 of craftcup then got dropped from a game i know i could have won - Also the game before that crashed right as the other guy was about to gg, luckily he didnt try for a rematch :P.

edit: also cant view profiles T_T.

I'm having problems with BNet too.
 
so i got starcraft 2 free trial with my new 460 gtx, its nearly finished downloading, can i play single player on this trial? Also should this run ok at fairly high settings? (specs in sig, 1920x1080)

Given that card, it should run very nicely at high resolution :)

I dont know how much you can access on the free trial. It might be a case of having total access on your account for a given amount of time. Either way, it should be a good chance for you to get to know a bit of the game..and then..buy it! :D

I've got that card, run with Q6600 and 4GB, everything on highest settings and runs like a dream.

The free trial basically allows you access to the full game for 7 hours OR 14 days, whichever ends first :)

Really good commentator, almost needed a change of undergarments when he was commentating with tasteless and artosis at Blizzcon :p

I want a new graphics card. I blew about £400 or something on a upgrade CPU but im drooling over new cards. Dam being a student!

Is anybody having an issue with promotion?

I think ive been promoted from silver to gold, but it hasnt worked properly so instead im stuck in a void of emptiness.

So my 'old' silver league doesnt have me in it, my record shows 200 odd wins but no league and the multiplayer has 'un....' next to my rank.

Anybody know a fix?
 
so far quite enjoying the trial, only been playing single player games against the AI and one campaign mission, think ill get the full game.
