**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

ive only played practice games so far :S

should i play out the rest of my 33 practice passes or go straight in for the real deal?

Real deal :).

Possibly watch a few replays of some top level players first, just to get an idea of what they do (e.g. scouting, early pushes etc). Still, there's nothing like throwing yourself in there head first :).

edit: Actually on second thoughts watching replays/practising build orders against bots beforehand is a really good idea. I realised I just described what happened to me, and I got placed in bronze :p. A bit more preparation would be a good idea really.

I am playing against other people in multiplayer, but with the beginner friendly settings of practive league :S

Ive only played terran so far, I really should try out the other races :S
Against AI, ive beaten it twice on hard, on very hard i cant last over 15 mins :'(

Fair play getting fed up of the match making in 4v4. I seem to always be the highest player on my side (silver) and yet consistently my openents have like two platinmum/diamonds players, a gold and a bronze. Gues steh 1 bronze player handicaps them!?! Grrrrrr

Stuck in silver rank 1 aswell - aargh

AI hardest and insane gets extra minerals per trip so it is probably a bad practice.

Those 50 practice matches paint a wrong picture because the of the rocks the defend you from rushes (which is a big very big part of this game, especially in the lower leagues) also I believe it had normal time while in a multilayer you play at "faster" time.

So I say just skip the practice matches.

Watch some pro games with commentary understand the game then practice, slowly you'll progress skill wise.

and yeah try out all the races, see which one fits your play style more, or which you like more. They have very different styles of play.

ok so having played over 1000 multiplayer games, i only just started playing the campaign, mainly coz i just got my new computer setup, but i'm having some serious framerate issues. wonder if you guys can take a look at my setup and think if it's something to with that?

i am regualrly getting 100 + fps in multa, including 4vs4's but in sp campaing i am dipping as low as 20?! i am playing on all settings maxed but i am sure my coomputer should be able to handle it.

setup: i7 [email protected] GHZ, gtx 570 sli, triple channel 6gb ram, and doing it all on win 7 1920-1080 and an ssd.

any thoughts? i myself am a little baffled -_-

I got 470 and used to get slow downs especially when placing pylons and other random times, turned off vsync and now its all good.

Try turning vsync off, that's my wild guess, otherwise can't Imagen why it's happening.#

Also its SLI so might be problems with that, single 570 is more than enough to run it at full I'd think, try disabling one card

i know, definitely overkill for this res and this game, or so i thought. how do i turn vsync off and what is vsync?

Vsync locks the frame rate to the monitor's framerate. So if you have a 60Herts monitor the fps is locked to 60.

Settings -> graphics -> vertical sync, untick

If that doesn't help disable sli and try it with 1 card. Also get the latest drivers if you haven't yet.

Watch your replays see what you did wrong, what the opponent did and see if it is scoutable.

Also find out basic openers and remember the golden rule to always pump out workers, constantly and don't forget to expand.

Like a terran basic openers is

10 supply
12 barracks
13 gas
15 orbital command

See, I try that. He doesn't scout me, I find where he is, send in a mixture of Marines, mauraders, and banshees and get slaughtered, every time.

If you play terran, just try going mass marine with 3-3 upgrades, as marines can pretty much kill everything if there's enough of them and medivacs really help also. You don't need much gas also, so you may find 2 bases is enough depending on how many medivacs you get...

Sure it gets boring after a few games but if you want to beat a few bronze players it usually works.

I've been trying to use nukes lately, it's surprising how quickly you can get a nuke and cloak if you get double Ghost Academy, works great against 'toss. :D
