**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I have really been drawn into the multi player. When I first played it I thought meh! this is really simplistic compared to DOW2, Forged Alliance and COH but after sticking with it I love it. I love the competitive nature and strategies. Now I cant stop playing it

Don't think its an important game but still very interesting!

edit - actually i would say its one of the best games i have seen with a terran coming from behind, I tend to find that if zerg get an advantage then i might as well just quit as it tends to snowball

I got cheesed 5 or 6 times in a row last night, defended all of them :).I even got drone rushed from a slightly favored opponent on Xel'naga Caverns!I haven't seen that since Steppes of War!

its always a great feeling when you spot a cheese and stop it.. wonderful! :D

On one of the largest maps (who's name eludes me) I built a suply depot right on the ooutskirts of my base and noticed that my opponent was building mass barracks within vision of my supply depot (on the low ground). Chucked up 2 bunkers with 8 marines & hot keyed some SCVs for repair. Had a massive smile on my face as i carried on normal as anything as soon as his army marched up my ramp and dies :D

On a side note, I have found that toss have been getting very greedy as of late, 9 out of 10 go for fast expo, 2 x rax (1 x reactor , 1 x TL) gives a nice healthy army to crush em :D

ZvT

Just got bunker rushed... tried to hold it off butmy natural went down, then got destroyed by tank + 1-1 marine push.... check what league guy is in and.. he is in ... PLATINUM!... and im in bronze lol.

: (

any P that does that against T is a fool and should go back to basics, you can not FE against T , the whole point of the PvT matchup is that P have to survive till they tech by FF ramps etc, applying small zealot and stalker pressure, expoing is just suicide.

hmm..not really true tbh. Protoss has to expand to keep up, and on larger maps with appropriate scouting it's generally pretty easy to go in planning something like a 1 gate expand. Does rely a bit on knowing what the terran is doing of course, so you're right in that it shouldnt be done blind unless on a huge map.

Bear in mind im only playing in platinum (used to be in diamond but somehow think i have simply lost some skill).

Most of the new maps seem to be fairly large which I think makes the toss think that its natual for people to fast expo. I guess my next comment is somewhat tongue in cheek.....toss are still BS and overpowered*

* I base this on losing almost every game to them even when theyre on one base and im on 2/3.

You know those 8 marauders and 2 medivacs you have just sitting around while you macro? Drop those boys next to a nexus and stim. Most hilarious sight you'll ever see. :p

There are a lot of one base allins for protoss, just remember that you don't need to expand before they do. You will always do better on the same number of bases as a protoss. :)

My standard TvP builds are 1 rax FE,pressure with 1 marine and 2 marauders with concussive shells(when I see double gas or 1 gate robo or 1 gate FE),and 2 rax FE,1 with tech lab and 1 with reactor.Build your CC at your main if your natural has a big choke(xel'naga, metalopolis). On Shakuras I open with no gas 1 rax FE and instant bunker at natural. If you have problems against Protoss try these openings, they counter pretty much everything Protoss throw at you until the ~9 minute mark.

To be honest early game i tend to do very well, my problem is that unless i outright kill the protoss i might as well just quit. I tend to find we have a faily even engagement (food wise) with even upgrades but i just get rofl stomped by collossus.

I honestly thing i can count on one hand the number of 200 / 200 engagments that I have won since i started playing SC2.

TvP that is

Just keep in the back of your mind, "Protoss can get Collossus quicker than I think, Best build some early vikings!" ... thats what I do.. not that I play Protoss very often.

Instead of getting a medivac, just pump out a viking every now and then :)
Medivacs are not great if they have colossi anyway, as it can only heal one at a time where colossi can hit several, better off limiting the damage the colossi can do by having more vikings.

Against late game Protoss with maxed army, you need Korean micro and lots of patience (despite what some people here say that Terran is 1a and they don't require any micro at all).I have neither of these and I lose most of the late game battles. It's all about positioning and micro,I am still working on these.

yep, positioning is important.. if you attack as a big ball the colossi will rip you to shreds.. need to split the army and attack from both sides, wait untill they are moving and most vulnerable (open space or contained)... Ghosts are <3

I get the general mechanics, I try to spread my units out as much as I can into a nice ark, get some decent blue flame drops on the go at his main (oh man i love blue flame) then when i engage I can see he literally pops up a couple of guardian shields and just attacks and I die!

Just thinking about it makes me angry :P

When i lose to zerg or terran i generally know I have been outplayed or the opponent has just gotten lucky but toss just anger me so much lol

How many vikings are you building when you see the collossus coming? Should be a minimum of 2 for each! I actually love it when I see collossus as it means they don't have as many HTs which is what I lose to every time.

Make sure you get a couple of air attack upgrades too, as otherwise 3/3 upgraded collosus just shrug off the tickles from your viking attacks!
