*** OS X Mavericks ***

I have the Mavericks GM version on my MBA after upgrading from DP8. If I do a time machine back up will it restore to a retail Mavericks ok on a new Haswell MBP? I am probably going to have to send my MBA off before I get my MBP.

Anyone noticed a bit of a slow down? Mail is incredible sluggish for me now.. I'm on a late 2011 15" MBP.

Would the issue be lack of available memory? If so, could I stick an 8gb stick in / can Mavericks address 10gb of memory?

No slow downs for me, in fact a lot of my apps run faster, and Mavericks is designed to help people with low RAM systems.

Did you do do a clean install or just upgrade?

Also I don't see how Mavericks can't address 10GB of RAM, it has no issues addressing and using my 24GB, and others 32GB+

Oh okay. Yeah upgrade, really can't be arsed with a clean install!

I suppose, but even Apple techs would say a Clean install is the best way to avoid issues.

I just made a spare USB Mavericks installer for if anything goes wrong in the future, plus I have my other HDD with 10.8.5 still installed to fall back on, and time machine of course.

Do have a look at the mavericks sub section in Mac Rumors though, you'll find all sorts of interesting info.

Been having some wireless issues recently and phoned Apple to see if i could get talking to technical support and although my phone support is expired, my recent update to Mavericks gives a complimentary 90 days support. Nice touch!

Just thought id share that incase it wasn't already mentioned..

Just found out about SoundBunny, finally a way to do per application volume control like Windows.... dear lord I have missed this.

One thing I have noticed is that the new Quicktime (AV Foundation based) no longer plays avi files due to the legacy Perian plugin only supporting 32bit, it now tries to convert everything, most frustrating.

I was gutted to see that Perian is no longer developed, it was ideal when I had my original Mac Mini in 2008. I'm now on a 2013 MBA and I just use VLC for everything now.

I really don't see the point of notifications when you have the markers in the dock and also the notifications fly of the screen so fast when using the machine or in lock mode that I really can not keep it up with it

I updated my macbook Air yesterday and it's running nicely.

One thing I noticed though, where several of the key apps have now had the simplified iOS7 'look' applied to them, the reminders app hasn't. Hopefully that'll be sorted out soon for continuity across the platforms.

Apart from that, very smooth update process and is working well. I particularly like the maps integration.

I'm starting to think that I've heard enough. Think I'll at least make a USB installer from the download file before trying the quicker upgrade route.

my Mac: 2.5 GHz dual core i5, 4 GB

One irritation I've seen over ML is with some network copies failing due to the file being in use. Situation is copying, normally video, files from NAS A to NAS B using a Mac Mini running Mavericks which has the shares from both mounted onto it via SMB.

Copy runs up to about 75% and then fails with a message about the file being in use ... never used to see this at all with ML (only similar thing there was when trying to delete files which the system was trying to generate a thumbnail for in the background at the time .. but here I'm copying not deleting).

Other than that it seams to be fine (using the clean install via USB method).

I like the idea of keychain, but the only issue is my work laptop is Windows.

So? :) it isn't adding a problem, just not removing that particular one.

It's useful if you have more than one OSX/iOS device. If you only have one then no, it's probably not useful.
