*** OS X Mavericks ***

Just to confirm that the App Store updates the non-App Store purchased version of iWork, but also adds them to your account as purchases so you will always have them available.

i upgraded through app store , no probs here.

however i heard ilife apps were free now? i'm still on old versions of imovie and iphoto
i was able to upgrade garageband for free from app store but the others are still looking monies?

edit: just seen the above. i never bought ilife, but got the bundled version with my MBP (ilife09 i think) maybe i'm not eligible

Gave up bothering last night as it said 6 hours using Three for tethering. (which runs at the minimum of 1.3MB/s) Set it away there before, and says about about 3.5 hours for the next 4GB for me. Looks like i'll just have to wait.

I'm curious how it runs on various Macs. A few posts back I saw that someone complained that it's slow... on what Mac hardware tho?

My Mac is 2.5 Ghz Core i5, 4 GB (Late 2012)

I have to upgrade eventually, but prefer heads up on any caveats with it.

Also any info on whether there is anything noteworthy regarding XCode in Mavericks appreciated.

Cheers

From what I can see, if you have iLife registered with the MAS then you'll get it for free. Otherwise, you won't.

As for Pages, Keynote and Numbers, that's simple enough. Not free unless you have a previous version (free update) or if you have bought a Mac after 1st October.

Managed to update both my machines, and must say that performance is definitely the most impressive improvement for me. The iMac always felt ever so slightly sluggish, however this is mostly gone with Mavericks. Everything just happens...faster, more smoothly. Mail and Safari are noticeably better.

yeah, just found this on apple site, fair enough. at least i got garageband :)

* Pages, Numbers and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after 1 October 2013. OS X Mavericks required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.
** GarageBand is free on the Mac App Store for all compatible Mac computers with OS X Mavericks. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.

Seemed to have stopped itself at 2.8GB, and i've just decided to leave it at slightly under 3GB. Won't go much quicker than 300KB/s for me :(

How are people finding the new version of Pages and how does it compare to Word? Quite interested with the use of the iPad and Mac together on making a document.

For writing a single page document with naff all else in it, you'll be okay and it'll work well. For anything else, it is a backward step with lots missing from Pages09.

Edit: The funny thing is that they boast about it being free when compared to Microsoft Office... MS Office is now leaps and bounds better... even though it sucks balls on a Mac!

Was anyone else here a frequent user of colour tags before Mavericks? As I was....

Its made me realise I'm going to have to through everything I've tagged to kind of reorganise it all. Plus I'm not sure I find the small circle of colour is quite as obvious as having an entire directory or file highlighted in the colour you had tagged it.

Thought I would prefer Mavericks because of what they have done with the multi monitor support... I'm not sure though.

I can't seem to get my Vmware fusion to expand across both screens now though.

If you haven't already, go into System Preferences -> Mission Control and uncheck "Displays have separate Spaces". Should allow you to drag windows across multiple monitors.

My first impressions following the upgrade is generally positive, it looks very nice, though the icons appear pretty much unchanged unlike iOS7.

What I'm not keen on and whether by fault or design I know not, the Time Machine icon - it no longer rotates when backing up. I think this is poor as I used to rely on the visual clue.

I do like the revamped Safari - finally Bookmarks in a column down the side.

P.S. I realise there is now a tiny arrow on the icon to indicate a back up is taking place but it's not very visual.

Is it possible to turn off the fact that if I have an app on my second monitor then the menu and the notification areas switch to that second screen?

I open apps with spotlight exclusively, I don't want them to open on the second monitor just because it has focus. I also don't want the notification area there if I swipe into it.

Chrome seems to be giving me some grief but the weirdest thing is when I cmd+tab between apps, its always takes me to a chrome window on my "main screen" rather than the one that had focus when I was last on Chrome.

Very annoying if I have my main window on my macbook air and a developers tool open on the large external as it always gives focus to the developer tools when cmd+tabbbing between my editor and browser.

Apple have seriously screwed up colour profiles on Mavericks, so it seems. I instantly noticed the whole OS has a completely different colouring; the dock is the most obvious - everything is darker and oversaturated. Yuck. Have seen some people complaining about sRGB profile support, too.

I have been having a problem with Safari. Webpages load at normal size momentarily then zoom right out to the minimum. Sites such as Overclockers forums are then just a squashed up mess. I can use the zoom feature to bring them back to size but have to do it for each tab then when I close down and relaunch I'm back where I started?
