I'm beginning to see what Windows users mean when they laugh at Mac users having to pay for Service Packs...

Airplay Mirroring to an ATV would be good, especially if the new ATV does 1080p. Although I'm sure the likes of SkyGo will block the content like the iPhone app does now.

It certainly looks like a service pack update though.

Definitely nice to have iMessages on my Mac :)

It would also seem that they are making Growl pretty useless with the introduction of its own notification system :p

Not sure if trolling... :)

OS X versions are hardly service packs. Windows SPs very rarely provide anything more than a round up of patches and bug fixes. Apple tend to use these software releases as platforms for new features, enhancements to existing features, as well as bug fixes and patches.

It doesn't automatically make it trolling when someone says something you don't necessarily agree with

I agree, but you can see where I'm coming from when I one liner like you posted is dropped in a thread like this. Sure you know as well as I do that this sort of topic is prime for sniping.

Anyway, back on topic lest my post start a deliciously ironic tangent doing just that! :D

Is that seriously what windows users laugh about.

Thats actually quite funny. Tell that to the people who bought Windows Vista and see if they laugh.

I have used windows XP, Vista and now Windows 7 along with Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion and I would be less happy with the windows upgrades over that time and I would have spent about 4 times as much.

Hmmmm more features to upset the diehards that don't like the iOS-like way that OS X is going.

Note that by default 10.8 only allows for apps to run that have been downloaded from the Mac App Store.

Now before the haters explode this is an option that can be turned off (and also has a middle ground option of only running signed apps) and you can also right click and run an unsigned app at any time regardless of the setting.

It's a sensible move to prevent malware but I'm sure the Apple haters will use this as a stick to beat Apple users with for oh lets say the next few years.

It looks to have been pulled, back in a few hours it says! :p

Ooo really? Where does it say that? Hoping its a bug as nothing works on it at the moment :p

Yeah I quite like the new feature, and I'm a little surprised it's taken this long to have it added...

OS X is starting to have an iOS style release schedule i.e. small updates but lots of them. Whereas Windows still has the classic release date schedule i.e. long gaps between releases but loads of updates in each release. Considering that OS X is approximately a quarter the price of Windows the overall effect is quite similar, you could even say Apple's way is better because your generally getting new features quicker. In fact there's been rumours of Microsoft going a similar route to help them better compete with iOS and Android in the tablet space.

Edit: the quarter of the price comment was referring to the App Store version, not the USB stick version, although at most you'd have to buy the USB stick once, so price wise it's still similar to Windows.

I agree as long as the option exists to turn it off (and Apple themselves have said it will be) then it will be great news for less computer savy users.

I'm sure we will get the fair share of "walled garden" posts though...
