OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) Roars Into Existence...

As a developer, it would be suicidal not having an option to disable blocking of unsigned apps. It would also make creating new apps impossible unless produced on a different platform (Windows, Linux etc.) but a nice feature to keep turned on for those typical users who don't do this.

Will the iCloud update add browsers other than IE and Safari to the browser sync? I mainly use Firefox so would be nice to sync bookmarks between my MacBook Pro and iPad 2 outside of Safari.

Yeah that would be nice! I don't see it happening though, as I can't see Apple wanting people to use other browsers :(

Most shocking thing is the list of Macs it will work on. Lots of fairly new gear losing support:

Supports Mountain Lion:
• iMac (mid 2007 or later)
• MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
• MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, 2.4/2.2 GHz), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
• MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
• Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
• Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
• Xserve (Early 2009)

2006 gear is not "fairly new", it'll be over 6 years old by the time 10.8 launches. Aa fair chunk of them will already not run Lion due to the 32-bit CPU. Apple basically dropped the Intel GMA 950/X3100 and ATI X1600 graphics machines.

Slightly puzzled by the dropping of the Mac Pro 1,1 but that's it.

I was more looking at the mac mini and 13" mbp which are only just 3 years old and are losing support. That's disappointing for a £1000+ laptop.
Macpro too as you said is a funny one cos at just over 4 years old its still very capable.

They ain't losing support. The 13" MBP only launched in mid 2009, replacing the 2008 Alu MacBook which is also still supported. The only difference between them is a Firewire 800 port.

Hardly anyone was buying the Mac mini in 2008. It had gone 18 months without a refresh and was the last remaining machine with Intel GMA950 graphics. The 2009 Mac Mini got overhauled with the same chipset/graphics as the MBP mentioned a few seconds ago. It was so good I went and bought one the day it was announced.

My mistake. :)

When I looked at that list it made it look like an imaginary 2008 13" mbp was losing support.

So generally the cutoff point is 4/5 years, similar to Lion.

Xmarks should work with that.

sync to iCloud -> Safari -> sync to Xmarks -> Firefox

I didn't like Mountain lion when I installed it today so I went back to Lion.

Fair enough it's beta but it slowed my mac right down... On top of that, safari 5.2 is terrible, why the hell are tabs stretched!?

Unless they make some major changes I won't be upgrading unless I have to this summer.

When i read that list, i thought my 2009 mbp was loosing support :P

so just as long as the hardware is 64 bit, then it will be supported for a long while yet?

I was a "Day 1'er" with Lion and had no issues, will probably do the same for Mountain Lion.

I wasn't. Got burned with Leopard so let the rabid fanbois do the " Day 1 testing" from then on.

Bought Lion, did a test install then it was put on the shelf until I was forced to upgrade after buying a new machine.

Flawed logic is flawed. Pointless swipe. Am I the only one who cringes whenever someone writes "fanbois"? I see it as more of a reflection of the posters own complex issues.

But I digress the real "Fans" are using the beta versions months ahead of the official releases and most people won't suffer from any problems updating straight away anyway.

I normally will but always have full clones of my drive(s) in various working states on hand so its absolutely trivial to upgrade/downgrade any time.
