Oscar Pistorius thread

1 million Rand (£75k or so) but only 100k Rand in cash (£7.5k or so).

Plus

• He appears in court on 4 June at 8.30am.

• He surrenders all passports.

• He refrains from applying for any passports.

• He refrains from entering any airport.

• He surrenders all firearms.

• He refrains from possessing any firearms.

`• He refrains from talking to any witnesses for the prosecution.

• He will have a probation officer and correctional official from the date of release until the conclusion of the case.

• He shall inform the official all his movements and ask for permission for any journeys outside Pretoria.

• He shall give them a phone number and must be contactable day and night.

• He must not be charged with an offence of violence against women.

• He must not use drugs or alcohol.

• He must not return to his home and not make contact with any residents of his estate except the Stander family.

Interesting bail conditions so basically he cant really do sweet FA, those are pretty harsh conditions but at least he cannot do a runner.

He is guilty of killing someone, that much is certain. Whether or not he pre-meditated the killing is what needs to be proven or unproven at trial.

So someone breaks into your house with a sword.. You two fight you disarm him and punch him, he falls down and dies.

And you'll be happy to stay in prison until the trial

What will be interesting to see and find out is what exactly is his conditions of bail ie will he have to surrender his passport and could he be placed under house arrest or something similar to that.

What i found disgusting was once the verdict was read out, his brother shouted out yes. Sorry but i found that in very bad taste, sure your happy that hes been released but spare a ****ing thought for his dead gf's family you muppet:rolleyes:. Secondly either way, your brother killed someone either in a rage fit or in an accident so regardless hes killed someone and that is something i could never find reason to celebrate if it was my family member.

He's said he will surrender his passport, but don't think so regarding house arrest.

Agree we the verdict here. It's a bail hearing and I don't feel he is a flight risk. Also the prosecution was weak in proving its point.

Seems he will have to buy a new house in Pretoria, stay with relatives, or something. He can still train, which I suspect is one of the main things for him.

Not returning to his home is an interesting one.

I would assume they haven't finished the investigation there, plus it would certainly put him in a position to influence or intimidate witnesses. Who are the Stander family though?

I would think he would go and stay with family. I wonder whether they live in a similar gated community, as that kind of thing would stop press turning up outside his house. You know full well he is going to be papped where ever he goes until the trial.

Exactly. Why do people keep saying that he might be innocent?

He KILLED his girlfriend and that is fact. She went up the chimney this week and he will be out running next week. That is a joke to me as the only thing up for discussion is whether he gets 15 years or life. Inbetween the time he gets a fair trial he should be locked up as there is still a risk that he is a nutter and shot her dead intently.

Innocent of what?

If it wasn't in any way premeditated I don't think he'll get any jail time :/

Unless you are right. Does an accidental killing in SA get you 15 years?

Ahhhh justice for the rich! Mind you what a terrible start by the prosecution. Hopefully they can get their **** sorted out and a proper trial can happen.

Silly example is silly as no one broke into his house ;)

As for me?? if it was proved that i was a danger to the public and could abscond from the country then yes id be happy to stay in prison till my trial date.

Fact is none of the above was proved so he was let out on bail with conditions.

LOL seriously your getting too emotional over this. Do you honestly believe that if the judge thought he was a nutter to the public then he would have given him bail??..of course not, this isnt the trial, this was just a bail hearing and so far the judge could not see any reason as to why he shouldnt get bail.

Its really as simple as that.

The problem is that the prosecution have gone down the route of premeditated homicide (rather than culpable). Murder rather than manslaughter. So the judge had to consider bail on the basis of the charges laid. The judge will have considered numerous factors - first and foremost whether the evidence presented was sufficient, under a balance of probabilty, that OP would be convicted of the charge laid. The prosecution was not able to present the evidence to satisfy this - for a variety of reasons. Moving on from there the judge will have considered whether he was a flight risk, whether there was a risk of violence towards others and whether granting bail would create public outrage. The prosecution did not do enough to prove any of these to be valid so the judge will have had little choice other than to grant bail mostly due to the incompetence of the investigative team.

I can't even go there :( if he walks that will be a travesty.

The court room cheering as he gets temporary freedom. Whatever next!

Do people really not value life? Reeva was a young woman who had possibly another 50-60 years of life ahead of her. Think of all the experiences his actions (whether premeditated or not) have robbed her of.

Next we will have the religious lot saying don't worry she has gone somewhere better, although they never seem to be in a hurry to get there.
