Oscar Pistorius thread

South African Jails are not nice places! If he gets convicted, he'll hopefully get put in with general population. If he does, he'll probably have HIV within 6 months!!

No doubt he'll get a special cell to himself "for his own protection" however!

I'm not sure if they'd be allowed to throw someone without any legs into general population to be honest. And they can't have his thrown in with legs as they could be used as weapons.

I'm addressing more comments like, as above, 'who shoot first blindly without establishing that it might in fact be your girlfriend?'. The point I'm trying to make is that in South Africa, in an area that has such high security due to the prevalence of violent crimes and murders from intruders, where people know that an intruder will almost certainly have a firearm, and you don't expect a girlfriend of 3-4 months (who might not even live there) to be letting herself in at 3am, it's not inconceivable that someone might shoot blindly at a silhouette in the dark. Yes, it's foolish and reckless, but just-awake and full of adrenaline it could be a tragic mistake.

In that case....... who TF sneaks in to someones house to surprise them?!

It sounds like he had a bit of a reputation for being violent towards women but it was largely ignored by the media as it didn't fit the "hero" mould. I don't really understand those people 'hoping' that he is innocent, we've been sold a story that he is a role model & saint which in reality he isn't, just accept it.

Well I generally hope anyone accused of murder is innocent because I'd prefer more people to not be murderers. :p

If the reports are accurate then it sounds like his bang to rights and I hope he rots in jail!
I can't even begin to imagine what her poor family are going through :-(
R.I.P Reeva Steenkamp

That's what I thought.

Why the difference with this topic?

The moderators seem to have taken it upon themselves to ensure Mr Pistorius' integrity is upheld at all costs.

However calling him a crazy murderer is okay. :p

Heh, I don't really know. I understand the explanation they've given but it's come out of the blue compared to other threads.

I wonder why he didn't fire a warning shot or repeatedly ask for the intruder to identify him/herself or he would shoot. That may have saved his girlfriends life. :(

It does confuse me how lots of people seem to think that "really good at sport" = "really great person". I'd go the other way and say that to reach the top, a ruthless and selfish streak is something of an advantage. I'm not trying to generalise and say that all top sportspeople are ****s though...

He wasn't a good sport though, he was a bad loser making excuses about the length of Olivera's blades despite using overly long blades himself.
