Common sense says he killed her in a rage, I doubt it was premeditated but it was still murder.
The judge bought the intruder story or more likely was told to buy it, as ultimately a harsh sentence would be detrimental to south africa.

Can someone explain to me, because maybe I'm a dummy, why he got a 3 year suspended firearms sentence, when he's going to be serving a prison term for all of it anyway?
I assume because they know he will be out well before the 5 years is up?
Maybe the firearms one is suspended until he gets out of jail then kicks in.
The two sentences aren't related to each other. 3 years, suspended for 5, is the sentence for his firearms offence. It's coincidental that he'll be in jail for some/all of that 5 year suspension.
Judge noted that the sentences are to be served concurrently, so the firearms sentence is effectively nullified.

Heard on the news on the way home that someone had been given 6 years in this country for grooming a minor.
It just seems funny to me that you get less for killing someone.

I find it odd they got that much when some of the guys in those rapey gangs who raped half a town over the course of years seems to be getting away with less.
Isn't the charge he was found guilty on basically manslaughter? The jury believed a disabled and scared man shot someone he thought was an intruder hiding in his bathroom. At least that's my interpretation of the sentence.
For a forum that seems to be so pro defending your home/property I'd have thought people would be happy with the sentence.
