I'm afraid I can't let the Sonic games on the Mega Drive go without a mention. The Donkey Kong Country series also had some great compositions

(I do love lots of other game tracks though, but some have been mentioned).

X2/X3 - Many good tracks to choose from but I think Getsu Fune is my favourite. Xenon 101 always sends a shiver down the spine too.

A standout one for me was the ambient music on black and white, really great game too.
Of course half life 2 was spot on, and I always loved the music on star wars for the master system hehe
