It'd be ludicrous to get rid of the forum. Budget say 15k a year for a decent managed dedicated server & a VB licence, and it will pay itself back many times over.
This forum is part of the brand :)

Well they have already got close to 2k from me alone because of the forum as i wouldnt have bought my laptops without it...point being that im not a particularly big player on this forum so imagine what the more heavy users have spent at OCUK! Forum easily pays for itself! Then you just have to look at the publicity it generates for the shop such as Gareths post which literally went viral around the internet introducing the shop to thousands of people it wouldnt usually attract and even game develepors.

EDIT: sorry for the terrible spelling and punctuation, on my phone vefore bed as this news is too big to pass up .

I know this is a worst case scenario, but if we were to migrate i can't see it being very successful. There's no way we could get the message out to everyone, and there's no way we could get everyone who does know about it to go along with it. And the forum is nothing without the community.

the most involved and commited members who are on here a lot will know and they are the most important people to get in the new place :)

Hopefully before everything had to go down, a DON or someone would make a forum and make a banner on here to advise everyone on.

Can't see any reason why not?

OCuK forums aren't really anything to do with the forums, and if anything could make them slightly better.

That depends on the circumstances of both the business and the sale. It may well be the prime time to sell the business.
I've was involved in sale of a large retailer that covers the same sector as ocuk. Buyers were hardly falling over themselves. Retail stock is generally undervalued in a slump. You're right though, it's hard to comment without details. Which we'll probably never get. 50m sounds reasonable in the current climate.

I hope the forums etc. stay! Spend many hours here each day, my life would be left with a gap in it :o

And I really don't want to go back to paying for delivery either (this is the main reason I shop at OCUK) as delivery prices are a rip of for me, like £5 just to deliver a 120mm fan

Meh, my experience with Germans running a UK forum is that they don't have a clue and generally screw everything up :(

Let's hope they recognise a good thing and leave well alone.

Woahhhh calm down people!

I seriously doubt these forums would go, if anything they would get busier. Caseking do a lot of distribution work in Germany and Europe, wouldn't surprise me if they pushed OcUK to be a UK channel for a lot of the stuff they sell. There are a few very random makes I've never seen before on their website, so we might get some fancy new stuff over here.

But still, stand to attention, don't cross over the wire to fetch your baseball, take 4 slats from every bunk bed and remember to kick the soil into the ground when you let it out of your trousers.

Interesting times, I just hope the staff stay put - loosing a forum is one thing, loosing a job is another. My guess is the forums will stay put, maybe some changes but who knows.
