Overclocking at School.

My mum used to teach at a primary school. I had to go in a couple of times because the kids had somehow accidentally disabled the hard drive on their old Acorns. I blame those sneaky 5 year olds...

sounds like my old IT dept. :/

lol i used to do this as a student, now i actually work at the college as IT support....

now i appreciate how much hassle students can cause... lil ****s :p

kinda pain in ass when its one of the largest networks in the UK aswell....

even had one student break our locks, nick all the components, left the empty base unit open on its side and walked out!!! the cheek!

I saw the remains of that happening when I was at Uni, in the one computer room without a cctv camera. It had one a few days after....

PK!

I once (EDIT: 'borrowed') an Audigy 2 and it's frontpanel from a computer in college that was left just sitting in a corner not being used.

Please ignore the fact that my current soundcard is now an Audigy 2 with frontpanel.

I felt justified because I put it to use at home and in college it had been left gathering dust in that corner for 6 months without even a screen or power attached to it.

What if it fails to oc and you need to clear the CMOS?

I had to do this. Lifted a screw driver from the technicians office, opened the case, reset CMOS, screwed case up and put the screw driver back before the teacher came back in the room. Obviously I was bricking myself. For some reason they put BIOS passwords on all the pc's around school except for the ones in the computer science labs

Hmmm... the thousands of pounds sat in vaults in banks could be put to use by myself quite happily. Doesn't mean it's right to do so. The Ferrari that my nextdoor neighbour lovingly restored, but now keeps locked in his garage and hasn't seen tarmac in over 4 years - I could put that to use too. Same goes for my mate's Triumph motorbike that's been in his garage gathering dust for 3 years. They're all assetts, and all have a value. By damaging, tampering, or removing such things, you're effectively stealing the establishment's money.

You're basically a common criminal. Same goes for the OP who's fiddling with hardware he hasn't paid for and isn't responsible for, and anyone else who does the same. I know several instances where acts such as the above have resulted in expulsion, and in 2 cases, a criminal record. Kiss goodbye to your credibility & career prospects amongst those where it counts.

Good Point, but in the school I am at and the many other school's in the UK. Know one has respect, for anything or anyone. So the "establishment's" should have thought about this before investing there money in an environment where respect doesn't have a meaning.

So it's not your fault. Right.

Of course it's not his fault. He's obviously a victim of a system that can't teach him to spell or construct sentences correctly so how is he going to know about respecting the rights of others. He doesn't understand that other people have feelings or needs, he just knows he has feelings and needs and he's expressing them by doing something he shouldn't in a poorly supervised classroom.

Of course the system is stupid enough to think he's trustworthy enough to be left unsupervised with a computer so why shouldn't he expose his teachers for the fools they are? He's not trustworthy in the least, so be on your guard staff and pupils at Guthlaxton College!

But it's not his fault. I agree with him on that. His parents and teachers have obviously not been able to pass on small basics like a sense of right and wrong, or any degree of empathy so he's taught himself a decent dialect of victim-spin and he's off and running with it.

If he's a clever lad he may even get away with it, but a clever lad wouldn't have posted the fact he was perpetrating these crimes and misdemeanors at Guthlaxton College, which actually appears to be below average according to the league tables;

http://www.dfes.gov.uk/cgi-bin/perf...ode=&No=855&School=8554033&Lsc=15&Type=&back=

So maybe he won't get away with it after all....

And I apologise if I have got your sex wrong. I presumed Matt was masculine, but the e-mail in trust is feminine, so who knows, but I do apologise if I have inadvertanty labelled you the wrong sex.

Where i work we've had cpus and hdds knicked from Laptops, love RMs mobile one, remove eight standard small phillips screws and you got yourself a cpu, just ONE needed to remove the hdd, coulda used different screw heads but i guess they think all kids are angels.. Had a PIV 4 or two removed from computers in the past, no cameras and still no cameras in said rooms... Students have broken in during the night and stole 16 laptops, found out who it was, recovered them apart from one that they either broke or sold quickly, police did a great job dusting for fingerprints, laptops aged about 10yrs after they left the police lockup with all the scratches and ink. Kids still attend school here, not even a suspension.. more stuff as well but at least all our BIOSes have passwords, and no its not the default 'RM' one LOL

You know? A lot of people think this country is going down the pan, blaming it on Eastern Europeans, illegal immigrants, etc.

This thread just seems to be proof that such a postulate is tosh.

I think this thread really needs to be moved to General Discussion as someone has now used the word 'postulate' and that's definitely a GD thread word.
