I can now confirm that yes, this is a completely new release based on Robert Kirkman's comic book series, The Walking Dead.

The game is being published by Starbreeze Studios (which were the publishers of PAYDAY 2) and being developed by OVERKILL Software (the developers of the PAYDAY series) who will be in charge of development and have full creative control.
"OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead will be powered by Starbreeze’s Diesel engine updated for the next generation. The title is set to release in 2016."
"OVERKILL will deliver a completely new co-op experience to The Walking Dead universe, exploring new characters and storylines."

See the Announcement Page, found in the 'Important Links' section, for further details.

Would love to see your opinions on this new release and the expectations that you may have of this game. Have you watched the televised series of The Walking Dead? Played the Telltale Games' version of The Walking Dead? Fan of the comic?

Just seen the announcement pop-up. Could be very interesting.

Its not exactly what we need, another zombie game, but if they can make it decent then i wont complain.

Well, i disagree, the problem is no one is making any decent ones....it's a genre with soooooooooo much potential that everyones cashing in on rather than making any masterpieces.

I want someone to take the idea of Left4Dead and take it even further, evolve it. Or take GTA and zombify it (they tried with state of decay, but it was naff overall and lacked depth), or make something entirely new!

The current walking dead game (the good one) is basically just an interactive show more than a game, dayz and infestation or whatever it is now have gone completely stale, and never were that good (DayZ was only good because of the potential)

I WANT A GOOD ZOMBIE GAME, EMPHASIS ON GOOD! :p

...biggest problem with all these naff games is that developers know how much "we" want a zombie game, so they cash in and bail out.

From the almost nothing we know about it, purely from 'co-op', it makes me wonder whether it'll play similar to L4D. If you imagined a zombie co-op title, and how Overkill have done the PayDay games, L4D with its regular zombies & special infected characters its not that different to how PD has regular cops and then specials who come in.

So for that reason, i can imagine it being very similar to Left 4 Dead. It doesnt seem like the current craze of huge open world sandbox gameplay, hopefully it works well, though i think i'd prefer a L4D3 (L4D3, with steam workshop for mods & maps, and overkills DLC for adding/expanding features... not too much to ask for, right?).

Another flamin zombie game! The reason why I love Payday 2 co-op is because of its unique stealth based approach to gaming. I find L4D a tad boring...

Bit annoyed that it wasn't some new maps for Payday 2 as me and my crew have got to the mid-late level 80's now and have slowed down our daily gaming sessions due to us getting tired of the same old maps.

Either way it is Overkill so I'm sure they'll do a good job. Looking forward to more news :)

Yes, thats fair. As i was reading that first paragraph, the one game which really stood out, which you havent mentioned, is The Last of Us.
I havent played it yet, largely because its PS and i just dont end up finishing games cos im more inclined to play something on PC. However something which has the strong emotional narrative, with a coop nature to it, i'd absolutely love that.

You mention GTA with Zombies, similar story with Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption, that was a fantastic game which i wasnt sure i'd like cos im not remotely into westerns and riding a horse around countryside is booooring, but it was fantastic, and the zombie DLC was brilliant too. It might be largely down to the fact that Rockstar are great with these sort of titles, so someone else attempting to emulate it would be very meh, but i'd love to see Rockstar do a *multi-platform* zombie game.

You edit my comment, then tell me you disagree with the version you've edited.

Eh? I simply highlighted the section i was replying to by deleting the section that wasn't relevant...i didn't edit the words, what's the problem here? It's not exactly out of context....you said another zombie game isn't exactly what we needed, i disagreed and said it is what we need, just that we need a decent one rather than all these half-cocked cashins that keep coming out, where's the issue?

I was suggesting that there are already plenty of zombie titles, but if its decent then great. It just seems a daft thing to do. You snip what i say, then argue my point... against me

As for removing what wasnt relevant, its 2 lines/sentences, no more than 30 words, im sure everyone would have managed.

Im not saying your intentionally manipulating my comments to say something unreasonable or owt, i just find it rather bizarre, particularly as i found myself agreeing with what you'd argued, only to noticed thats what i'd originally said.
