Overwatch

I'm not sure Ana's ult will get nerfed to be honest - it's powerful sure but no more so than Zarya's ult (i.e. when combined with half-competent team-mates, or one team mate in this case, it can be amazing)... In most games where the enemy team have a potential boosted monster-tank it's usually possible to either waste their time with Lucio/Pharah boops, Roadhog's Ult, Zen's Ult, etc. or simply discord and have the whole team focus them down... or even just Lucio speed-boost the whole team as they dive out of the way and wait for it to pass...

I don't think the ult itself is particularly op, more the time it takes to recharge. It sort of gets to the point where you out DPS the opposing team purely because Ana is able to get her ult so much faster. I don't think it's right when a new meta is built purely around one characters ability. In the case of the new Ana meta, 3 tanks, 2 support and a dps/another tank. Tanks bait damage at the start of a round, Ana heals, gets ult within a minute, bang it on the Rein, rinse and repeat and you'll have made significant ground within the first few minute's of the game. It seems to be beating the oh so standard 2-2-2 format in high comp these days.

Even without that combination, it still charges stupidly fast. I guess it's not a big deal with the appropriate counter heroes but still.

Ah right - that makes sense I suppose, I haven't come up against the 3-3 meta very often so far (probably as you say it's more effective at higher levels with better co-ordinated teams, I'm still hovering between 2400 - 2700 atm)...

started following a tip I saw someone say on reddit about positioning (as Zen, but maybe applicable elsewhere) - "if you can see more than 2 of the enemy or less than 4 of your own team; you're in a bad position"... it sounds so simple but in practice I felt like it was a useful way of sensing when and where to be.

That's probably why most people run head first in to an enemy team alone.
Frustrating.

This. Been playing with a guy recently who pretty much mains Zen and he's ALWAYS on team voice chat calling out discorded targets. For me, it's THE MOST important and easy to coordinate form of PuG teamwork alongside ult charge reporting.

A lot of people say 'I'm playing really well, I just don't understand why I'm not climbing ladder'. It's just flat out the wrong attitude to have. Thinking you can or are carrying your team is what leads to this weird sort of entitlement Overwatch players have. Seems stupidly obvious to keep saying, but even the most basic level of team work will up your win rate.

True to a degree, but you will sometimes just get those games where you have someone either outright trolling or someone who refuses to realise how bad they are at a character and won't change. Had a game yesterday where we won the defence, wasnt great as the symmetra should have changed after the first point but ah well we did ok in the end. But then in attack....she brought symmetra again.....suddenly you have a huge gap in your line up with one player effectively pointless.

I will agree however that communication is key, if you have a line up that isnt working then i find it best to offer to switch even if you have been doing really well in your role. People always jump straight to blaming last pick or the third dps pick when as one of the other dps you can change, it isnt fair but at least you have a better chance of winning.

Can be frustrating though when you get that sixth player who doesnt pick until the last 20 secs on defence, so no chance to swap, and they pick soldier when you already have mcree and reaper and could really do with a Rein or even a zarya.

Symmetra on attack is not pointless. Orbs negate Rein shield, and turrets etc.

Teleporter is also ridiculously powerful on both attack and defence providing you place it properly.

It's more to do with what you lose out on when you pick Symmetra on attack. You lose a dps which puts all the pressure on the other dps to do the vast majority of the teams damage. Or you lose a tank, which makes posturing in fights pretty much impossible because you will get bullied out by their 2 tanks. Or you lose a support which makes you much less likely to win a teamfight with significantly less healing than the other team.

And for what? Attackers already have closer spawns. The teleporter is way less effective on attack. Her dps is the worst in the game and the orbs are so easily dodged.

Plus Rein shield is nothing but a minor hindrance to a team working together. DPs either flank and kill supps or smash down the shield with concentrated fire. Really the orbs are only good on fixed point defences used in concert with the turrets.....don't get me wrong I am sure in an attack you can win with her but I think that would say more about the enemy team than it does about her utility.

Got to rank 3212 now I'm pretty burnt out on this game. Really needs more game modes and better class balance so it isn't the same thing every time. I play the classes I enjoy most and I just get flamed to hell so I have no choice but to leave voice chat. I have 67% winrate with torb with 28 wins which helped me get to this level yet everyone automatically throws a tantrum and then picks a troll class now in retaliation, whenever I try to play him. Sure, stats are meaningless often (junkrat bragging about golds, etc), but 67% winrate over 8 hours playtime is not insignificant. Sick of having to play rein/zen/mcree all the time just to stop people crying and throwing the game.

Widowmaker pop yey!

Anyone tried the new character nerfs and buffs on the PTR yet? I would link them but work doesn't allow me access to the sites :/

Widow

Scope in speed is now 0.3 secs compared to the previous 0.5.
Also, her charge rate seems to have gone down, but I couldn't see anything in the patch notes about it. A great change imho. It counters so many of the current meta set ups, including the 3 tank ana set up which is dominating.

Ana

Biotic grenade radius has been decreased which is super annoying AND (called it) her ult charge is up by 20%.
Her skill set is already hard enough to use as it is. I don't understand why they'd buff her counter in widow then decrease the power of her own skill set. Bizarre, but they could be balancing I for high level play which I still think is wrong. I can understand the the ult charge nerf though, that was a little ridiculous. As I stated previously on here, if a meta is built purely around 1 heroes ult then something is wrong.

Junkrat

Ult now activates faster, as in the animation before you gain control of his tyre is shorter.
Absolutely agree with this. He without a doubt has one of the clumsiest ults in the game. It's loud and predictable and anything that boosts it's effectiveness is fine by me. Though I still think he's a largely useless character with no place in any existing meta. He just seems to feed support ults... anyway!

What does everybody think? I think the Ana changes to her ult where necessary, but nerfing her kit is sort of annoying. It's taken me almost 2 weeks to get proficient enough with her to the point I feel confident picking her in comp. Taking away the effectiveness of some of her already hard to master utility just seems wrong. Feels like the Genji triple jump nerf all over again. Everything else I think is great!

Not pointless, but largely ineffective when compared to alternative picks.

When you consider that attacking is all about gaining ground with (preferably) sustained momentum, she just doesn't have an aggressive enough skill set up.

Agreed.

She has her uses, but never on attack IMO

I often play her defensively on Hollywood to hold the first point, and sometimes on Kings Row as well.

She's one of the smaller hitbox characters (if not the smallest) and people tend not to prioritise killing her, so if you can get in the mix and charge your primary fire you can do a lot of damage.

Some people don't realise her beam does 120dps once fully charged. It's good against most enemies if they aren't paying attention to you and once it's charged you can switch between enemies and it stays fully powered up.

I do agree with them to a large extent, especially when consider that torb is quite possibly the weakest and easily countered hero in the current meta. Though of course, they can only complain if they've already picked say tank or supports, there's no place for DPS characters whining at others for not picking correctly.

I enjoy playing pretty much every class aside from Widow. I think that's a necessary when entering competitive. If you just want to enjoy the classes you want to play, there's quick play.

Competitive SHOULD be about good structure, especially at high ranks where people generally know what they're talking about. No place for rudeness of course. Not in any situation.
