He does look good, and as a tank main I'm all for it...

If we weren't getting 2-2-2 enforcement alongside him though I dread to think how oppressive triple-sheild pirate ship or bunker could end up being, not to mention yet more stun/cc in certain comps

Playing last night on the PTR Sigma with Rein or Orisa is already pretty hard work.

My thoughts - imagine 2000 for rein shield, 900 Orisa and 1500 Sigma with basiton sitting behind this and mercy/bap healing etc - YUCK

Yeah - but a lot of people disregard what what you say because your so butthurt from OW, so i thought i would say it again .....

Jus' kiddin' :D

Haha... well I mean you're not wrong though :p

Had 3 games last night as a 6-stack with some guys I play fairly regularly with, actually pretty good - I think we had 2 wins and 1 loss but both wins were incredibly close. Common theme though was that all 3 teams we played seemed to be a group of primarily silver players with one or two smurf plat players who felt extremely high-skill for the match we were playing, essentially reducing those games to whether we could deal with that one person (and of course their entire strategy was based around keeping that one person alive)... Pretty frustrating but satisfying when you manage to beat it - I like to imagine the silver players have paid them for the boost and are annoyed at them after :D

What's really interesting to me is how they're going to do the matchmaking... I guess I can look on the PTR later for myself, but... how does queuing work when you're in a group? Does each group member indicate which role they are queuing for or does the group leader do that?
  • How does it match you to your team-mates if you aren't either a full 6 or a group of 2 playing the same role? A pair of high plat dps queuing with a high silver support, what would the game fill the other 3 slots with?
  • Does the matchmaker try to take account of the roles when matching or does it still just use the overall team SR? It would be nice if it did something like taking the average SR of your 2 dps, 2 tanks and 2 supports to give 3 different SR ratings, and then whichever of those is the highest is used to match you against the opponent...
I guess we will all wait and see but I'm apprehensive that like any system there will be ways to manipulate this to create really unfair games again... will it be better or worse than before though?

Good points - I'm not totally sure but there was some mention of OW taking into account your SR over the last 3-6 months etc to balance out each role and where you start etc.

On PTR - I got 2500 for Support, 2400 for tank, 1800 for DPS - probably about spot on. I usually play Torb/sym/junk as dps so never that bothered about win/losses, Tank is Orisa/Dva so happy enough with 2400 as I'm not great with other tanks.

If you are solo queuing you can select all three roles. If you are in a group you can only select one role. The other points you raise I have no idea about.

Ptr is so good.. loving new moira.. peaked at 4.1k with her few seasons ago but shes a lot better now if the changes go live then she will be very strong next season

They have patched out Moira's fade whilst stunned on PTR - was way to strong being able to fade out of Rein shatter etc

Haha - best Moira figures for a while. PTR

Kings Row (favourite map) - 81 elims/33.5k healing and 22k damage. Won in overtime thankfully. I would have just had a full hissy fit if we had of lost with those figures......:p:p

wow thats nice, Moira seems to be my most consistent support, saying that ive won 12 out of 16 with Zarya this season for some reason.

Got back into it this season after having a couple of seasons full of losses (swapping to APEX), still solo Q but have jumped up 400sr, looks like Plat might be reachable for the second time.

That's ridiculous Moira skills. Wish you were healing when I play tank.

Keep working at it. If i can get to plat anyone can.

So I've played a bit on the PTR, I'm finding a lot of people are just queuing as tank for the fast queues but have no idea how to tank, so they'll just pick Hammond and basically run off solo dps'ing. I do think it's a better system though

loads playing tank as Simga and loads have no clue how to play him, then they have no clue how to play another tank....They are only queuing for tank to play Sigma....HUGE gap in the early days between good Sigma and bad players...

Like the idea of the 2-2-2 role queue but I get the feeling it will take a while to settle down as people will be firing through placements etc to get ranks in them all, so your going to get very odd numbers.

I'm like 2450 as a tank, 1950 as dps and anything between 2250 and 2500 as support at the moment on PTR

I don't think this is particularly uncommon, as friends often span 3 ranks... for instance I play matches with @imginy occasionally, who spans gold-diamond, and I've fallen into silver right now. Lots of other friends I team with that float between gold and high plat. I think a 400SR drift is typical, and if one is up while the other is down that gap can appear big.

Watching some of the main YouTube OW channels, they are saying that Sigma is technically hard to play in terms of ability management and especially shield management. At gold level, he might be more of a liability than a help

Sigma has a high skill ceiling and is very hard to play effectively. He's similar to Wrecking ball in that respect in that he will only be the most effective at the highest ranks where people know how to play around the tanks and their initiations etc.

I feel Sigma is more of an off tank as hes very difficult to initiate team fights with.

Funnily enough we were doing our placements last night and noticed something interesting (anecdotal of course)...

The first 5 games we played there were 4 of us on; 2 low gold players and 2 high plat, so quite a spread. Those games were pretty bad - all losses, and in most if not all of them we noticed the familiar sight of one or two players on the other team either being obvious smurfs (e.g. low level accounts but with insane seeming skills) or just higher rank players queuing with lower ranked friends (which to be fair was like us)...

After those games one of our gold players left, and we won the next game - it felt too easy and we rolled them. Then that player left leaving just 2 of us - both plat, very similar SR actually. The 4 games that proceeded were all wins, but they were very close games - no complete stomping on either side, just very hard fought games that felt balanced...

This makes me wonder if perhaps the matchmaker does take the spread of any groups into account - if you've got large disparities in SR between players in your group, you should expect to be matched against other groups that have a similar makeup - and in a lot of cases this could put you in unlucky territory (especially if your higher ranked players aren't all damage heroes that can carry and the other team's are)
