Overwatch

Ended up buying and just hit level 7, Do more game options open up as you level ? Season's etc ? I only have quick play, AI battle and some castle game on the far right ??

That ones of the many complaints there isn't many game modes or many maps The competitive is the same as quick play just with "ranked" players. Same maps.

It resembles a free to play game in all honesty, lucky the gameplay holds it up. Lets just see if they add more gamemodes/maps free of charge or start DLC nonsense.

Loving this game. Only level 4 but unlike CoD or something don't feel at any major disadvantage. I noticed some classes have a higher difficulty level than others. Does this have any bearing on the points / XP you get when using them?

No, they are just stating they might be a bit more complex to pick up and play.

Soldier 76 is quite a good starting point as he is most like a standard FPS character with speed and healing abilities for himself and allies.

Whereas someone like Zarya or Zenyatta needs a bit more familiarity with the game as to how their weapons and skills work.

Ultimately all the characters require a certain familiarity to play them well. My snap-aim isn't great so I tend to avoid people like Widowmaker, Hanzo, Mcree etc who are more the sniper/long range accuracy shooters.

You're not really at a disadvantage at all - mechanically all the heroes are fixed and maintain the same abilities... nothing to unlock... no perks... just your own skill using the tools provided. It's more like CS where you get better at the game rather than your in-game character unlocking new stuff...

The difficulty is purely there to indicate how tricky it is to learn the character (though I wouldn't pay too much attention, different people seem to get on better with some classes than others)

Ok cool. Think that's why I'm liking it so much. Refreshing to have an online FPS that's all about skill and class knowledge as opposed to grinding for unlocks.

Soldier seems great so far. I did very well with Reaper too. Managed a 13 kill streak :)

As well as getting better with tanks, the skill I'm working on at the moment is not dying. I think it's hard not to get tunnel vision, especially chasing people, but I need to keep telling myself: "living is more important than getting kills".

If you have the "It doesn't matter as long as you kill more than you die" mentality some other games reward, playing more conservatively can give me 50-100% more actual in-game time, and feed the opposing ultimates less.

Soldier, Reaper are handy DPS characters. Once you feel comfortable with them, I'd try and learn at least one healer (lucio, mercy, ana, zenyatta) and at least one main or off tank (rein, roadhog, d-va, zarya, maybe winston). That sets you up to take any role in a given group.

Yep, getting killed a lot isn't really helping the team, particularly on defense if you have a long slog back to the action.

I tend to think as long as my Eliminations is twice as high as my deaths, then I am doing something right (Unless I am Mercy)

I don't mean kills : deaths for stat purposes either, I just mean if you're team has 6 people alive, and they have 5 then they are already at a big disadvantage.

Absolutely... 6v5, 5v4 etc. is very bad news so if you're going to go down you ideally want to be taking out at least 1 of them in the process... As soon as there's a sustained imbalance on one side that push is normally over one way or the other...

Had a few more good games last night, around the ~2650 mark now - can't imagine I will make it to diamond but it's fun trying!

This game has been really fun since closed beta, and now...I'm finding nobody online, and it's so sad!

Anyone playing regularly who can teach me a bit of the more advanced stuff? :)

It terms of hero balance how is everyone finding it?

I would say Mercy will get a slight nerf to the speed at which her ult charges. It's non unusual to see her pull of multiple resurrections per game. Sometimes 5x or even more in 1 game.

Zarya is just ridiculous at the moment. She has everything, damage, aoe ultimate ability, ability to save teammates and ability to save herself. Not sure what aspect I would nerf, maybe needs increased cooldowns on her shields.

Soldier is kind of in a bad place because of how god damn effective McCree is at dealing out DPS.
