"Overwhelmingly white" workplace affecting mental health

What a way to cause division, wonder how well this thinking would work in Pakistan.

"I was thinking of moving to Shanghai, but then I realised my mental health would be affected because of all the Chinese people, I'd just walk into the editorial studio and see Asian faces"

I feel the opposite when I see Asian faces in a TV series with no diversity.

I'm not asian.

I wonder if this guy(not you) goes on holiday to foreign countries where predominantly people aren't his race.

I'm surprised he's said this because there are quite a few ethnic minority people on the BBC radio output.

I think he's bought into the anti-white Islington set. He always comes across like that to me.

Can you imagine a white man working at a Nigerian radio station complaining it is overwhelming black, or working in Japan and complaining it was too Asian? No, I can't either because 1. It wouldn't happen, and 2. He'd be out of a job the same day.

In my workplace we have about 16 people with 2 Muslim. The rest of us are white. Must be so oppressive for them :( one is Romanian but I guess that's white?

This is why it's good for the BBC to have offices around the UK. Makes them realise how London-centric their thinking was. The Government should do the same thing.

LOL yup, basically what's caused this... relocate outside of London to a deprived working class area up north... OMG these northerners are mostly white:

I'm sure that plenty of professional roles did move from London but I guess journalism has a lot of white people anyway, one obvious difference with London and up north is the people in more mundane jobs, in London it's not exactly unusual for say building security guys to be all black, all the cleaners to be non-white, everyone in the cafeteria etc.. and of course in BBC offices they've probably got plenty of reception, HR, finance, admin, IT etc.. recruited locally, those roles might well have been way more diverse in London but could be mostly white people up north. So while maybe his mostly white journalist colleagues haven't changed too much presumably most of everyone else he encounters day to day or sees as he looks round the office is white too.

BBC has atleast one office up north.
It probably doesn't do anything that links up with the main BBC though

This is unclear what is "the main BBC"?

The journalist in question works for Radio 5, Radio 5 is based in Salford, Greater Manchester.

Just saw post on my cities reddit
I'm a black girl from London and I'm going to start my masters at Durham University but I plan to live in Newcastle and commute.

I know that the North East isn't as diverse/multicultural as London and honestly even though I am from London, more often than not, I have been the only black girl in white spaces but it hasn't bothered me (but don't get me wrong I've had the lingering stares, micro-aggressions and prejuduce even in London as well despite growing up there).

But I really worry about the North East, is it really that bad?
seems other people don't really have issues with "white spaces", she mentions micro aggresions but I don't believe in that stuff, if you goto switzerland as a white man, in their mostly white country you get stared at a lot for not being local. it's not really racist aggression, but if you weren't white you would think it is maybe.

I wouldn't say it's not diverse up here though..

if you live in one of the poorer areas like I do then there's loads of diversity, whole areas of estates are basically spot the white man.
not saying anything is wrong with that just stating how it is.

20 years ago it was kinda rare to see a black person up here compared to where I'm from in the midlands but times change

There's always been a lot of asian here though from India etc and we have a china town

local news stuff and radioI guess is the local stuff.

pretty much not really part of the main BBC programming etc
Radio 5 is counted as a national radio station so I would say its part of the main BBC
