Owen for England?

Nope wouldnt take him either...wow he got a hattrick against a shoddy defence last night lol...hell even i could have scored 3 against a rubbish defence like that.

Past his prime...has no pace and his fitness is suspect.

I just hate the way the media are now harping on about how he should be an automatic choice for the WC next yr...if hes scoring 2+ goals week in week out then yeh sure...but he isnt even starting these days.

Nope; he's easily marked and doesn't offer much outside the box.

Stupid question to ask anyway; in three months and *if * playing regularly then maybe. playing in a side that alwways creates chances he will have a good chance of showing what he can do.

I wouldn't take agbonlahor, can't hit a barn door so walcott is a better choice as a utility player. OK he's weaker but has better ball control.

He is guaranteed goals, though, I'd rather him than Bent, he probably wont get picked though, unless he plays regularly and is scoring. Hope there is a few surprises in the squad for the World Cup, though.

Well I worked it out as

Rooney, Heskey and Defoe to go for certain might put Crouch in there too

Then there is either one of Cole, Owen or Bent. I hope Owen does go he is still clinical in front of goal and brings great experience to the camp. I'd say he has a 1 in 3 chance of going to the world cup

Why do people still think he's clinical? I've seen him miss loads of chances already this season that my cat could have scored

So the requirement for getting picked is 2+ goals week in week out? Guess we won't be taking any strikers then

Nope; he's easily marked and doesn't offer much outside the box.

Still scored 8 goals from limited chances this season, pretty impressive for someone who is "easy" to mark.

remember how many games he's played
he hasn't had many games under his belt but if he did I see him getting 10-20 goals a season

It all comes down to Capello and how he sees the situation
if he's thinking one "old " player then Beckham it will be otherwise we could see Owen out there too.

There's so much debate on the team though. I can't think of one position apart from Rooney in attack and Terry in defence that is up for grabs. I wonder if Owen Hargreaves our best player in the last world cup will get a chance to go too.

He's not even 30, age has nothing to do with the decision, people can play at the top level at 30. The debate is whether or not he's good enough, that's what he has to prove. So far he hasn't proven enough imo.

For me, Defoe and Rooney are the only two certainties. We then take at least one of Heskey or Crouch as the "big man". The other of these two competes with Owen and Bent for the final striker spot. For me, provided Owen is fit and scoring (even if he's not playing as much as Bent in the league), he goes.
