Owen for England?

and if the world cup was only 38 games long and we play a team with all 5 strikers, we might score 100 goals in it and win. That probably won't happen though.

That was funny. I liked that.

Edit - Has DM really got that bad, that when he makes a normal comment he actually gets congratulated by several of us :D?

Dont understand why so many people have Heskey down as a dead certain. I would pick Cole over Heskey at the moment. Heskey cant cut it at international level - he needs to be dumped like radioactive waste. I understand the whole he has presence, brings people into the game etc etc but at the end of the day when you play 4-4-2, the strikers need to be able to score goals and that Heskey cant do!

Personally i think Rooney, Defoe, Gabi, Cole, Crouch, Owen (if fit) are on the plane.

Wouldnt take him, he's a crock and is basically only being talked up at the moment due to last night and a goal against Man City.

Dont think thats the case at all, its been talked about since he joined united that he could feature in the squad.

Time will tell tho, his experience at international level cant be replicated and could prove so so vital come the world cup.

He needs to score more goals in the PL tho for him to secure a place in the squad, his hat trick last night against Wolfsburg certainly
does not.
If he finishes the season with 10 goals in the league and few important goals in europe he will be on plane.

If Owen is scoring goals then I'm sure Capello will take him, how can you not take a fit, goal-scoring Michael Owen to the World Cup?

If Michael Owen stays fit for the rest of the season and Fergie decides to play him more than he is doing at the moment there is no doubt Capello will take Owen. Owen will score as long as he gets games and isn't injured this season.

You have to remember he has hardly started a game this year. Last night was one of the few and he scored 3.

I'd much sooner take Owen than that oversized hulking neanderthal that goes by the name of Heskey.

Capello knows more about football than me but the only reason I can see him being chosen in preference over several others is because he's a bit of a brute and can bash defenders out of the way.

There's no doubt that either Heskey or Cole will be on the plane tho, its a matter of choosing which one will perform best for us at the WC.

I personally think Capello needs to have a good look at Cole at international level, prehaps he could start with Defoe against Egypt. Heskey has been given chance after chance for England (50 caps - 7 goals), thats a terrible return.

Crouch obviously is another player who has height and can be used as a go to guy but i dont think he has the strength for that role really, Capello has a tough choice ahead of him.

If he's fit and has played a decent number of games come the end of May next year and is scoring, then he should be taken to the World Cup, his goalscoring record is fantastic at both club and international level, he is a better finisher than any of the other players contending a spot alongside Rooney who is a dead cert to go unless he suffers a really serious injury before then. It's too early to call right now, see who is fit and available next May.

He won't stay fit, we all know that.
If he doesn't go it will be a good reason for not winning the WC!

Pretty much. At the moment he deserves his spot ahead of a lot of strikers to have played for England in the last 12-18 months.

I would tbh he has a great goal scoring record every where he has been, he has experience and will net goals.

Regarding his pace, a striker isnt all about pace if you can make it up with positioning/correct descisions/finish well.

All pace gets you someone like Agbonlaha (how ever its spelt). RvN isnt all pace either yet hes pretty clincal in front of goal as is Raul. These types of players bring something different to the squads they provide a target that ISNT AERIAL (crouch!!).

If he can get more games stay fit for a decent amount of time and net some goals I think he should most definately be going but thats all a big IF.
