Paddy Lowe to Mercedes?

Jono, some people are completely blinkered in their like/dislike for a particular driver.
Some people on this forum will still tell you that Vettel is nothing special and that he has got lucky in every single race. This, despite every single pundit on the telly, stating without question, that he is the real deal and one of the most talented drivers ever to have raced in F1.

BBC recently did a top driver count-down. I think they ranked Vettel in the top 10 all time...at the age of 25! Yes...you read that right. I don't agree with this ranking, but they rate Vettel extremely highly.

In 3 seasons when Hamilton and Button drove together, Hamilton led the WDC 2-1. This is a fact, not opinion. Also note that Mercedes offered big money to Hamilton...not Button...to join them in 2013. They feel that they need a top class driver and for whatever reason, they chose Hamilton. McLaren fought pretty hard to keep Hamilton. Even after he had signed for Merc, Whitmarsh was making bitter comments in the press, stating that Hamilton has made the wrong choice.

"We made Lewis an offer - an offer, which I believe is more money than any other driver at the moment is being paid," Whitmarsh said.

Make of this what you will.

The FACTS which Jono8 listed in an earlier post are pretty conclusive and damning. Notice that the Button fans are unwilling to break down Jono's factual stats...because they can't. Stats are the only thing which can be used to create an argument for/against the credentials of a sports person. For drivers, we look at number poles, fastest laps, points, race wins, titles, etc. The rest is all supposition and opinion (which carries less weight).

Right now Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso are the big 3. No other driver, including Button, comes into it.

2011, IMO, Buttons best ever season. And Canada 2011, was Button's best ever race.
Button and his cronies, comment on his 2011 Canadian performance here.

And again, the points DON'T lie. Regarding DNFs / Team Eff ups / I think you'll find that .

And yet again it's been proven many times but proffesional writers and posters on here that Hamilton lost far more points than JB this year and how many times did JB profit from Hamiltons demise?

Again, I don't get why you won't admit that to yourself. It's the points lost that mattered not the equal amount of retirements.

Anyway pointless carrying on and going round in circles :)

Nice to see this forum never changes. A thread is started about Paddy Lowe possibly moving to Mercedes, and it's degenerated into a pile of toss about Hamilton versus Button. Outstanding.

Agree

2010 Lewis Hamilton(240pts) vs Jenson Button(214pts) Button lost
2011 Lewis Hamilton(227pts) vs Jenson Button(270pts) Hamiltons worse season in his life time including carts ect
2012 Lewis Hamilton(190pts) vs Jenson Button(188pts) Lewis won

Lewis 2..Balance Button 1

^^ Brawn's not been kicked out yet has he?

Equally, it is possible that Paddy knew something already and spoke to Lewis and that was the point he decided to switch.

In any case, with such changes like this, I find it very hard to imagine that Lewis (or his team) didn't know anything about them. Especially given the incestuous nature of the sport.

I'm surprised no one said this earlier. I can't believe all this movement comes as a surprise to him.

As for Lewis V Jenson. I like Jenson more than Lewis. Lewis is too busy whistling up his own backside. Its a shame because without doubt Lewis is the better driver. If he would just ditch the media tart girlfriend, get in management that looks after him not their bank balance and never, ever do another fashion shoot, he might win another title.

Yes, fashion shoot stops Hamilton winning title.

Hamilton would have/been close to winning the title last year had it not been for DNFs. Even with all you list.

It's a great skill this forum has to turn every discussion on f1 into Hamilton v button :)

LOL

Actually, I was reading some comments on BBC F1 website. The same thing happens there as well. Every thread/article has comments, which turns into a Hamilton vs Button fightfest.

I think F1 in any forum, is SERIOUS BUSINESS. I used to think this applied only to OCUK, but it appears that fans of F1 are very serious about their idol race car drivers, whichever forum you goto.

Lewis is too busy building Lewis Hamilton "The Brand" rather than focusing on racing.

So back OT...

Brawn seems defiant he's not going anywhere yet, but acknowledges that Lowe has been approached due to the fact he can't give any long term commitment to Merc., and Lauda, Wolff and Lowe are part of a long-term succession...

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2013/01/brawn-says-im-team-principal-and-im-in-charge/

“I know the situation completely. Mercedes want a long term commitment. And obviously with a lot of additions, I want to see how things go before I make a final long term commitment. And that, so we have to have things in place. It’s rather like my succession plan at Ferrari. When I decided I was going to stop at Ferrari, we built a succession plan and I am part of that, I’ve talked to Paddy, we know the situation. I’m planning on being here a very long time."

So it would seem they are trying to get him to commit for longer than he would want to? I think it would be madness to let him go under just about any circumstances.

So is Brawn staying or going? It all seems very messy.

It's not the whole forum... Just ignore the bickering through the season and it's actually a very nice forum.

GD......:D

There are some nice parts to this forum and then there are the others.

Well I thought after the mods said what they said I hoped things might change. Seems not.

It's no different to any other part of the forum so I don't see why it should be moderated any differently.

Consoles/Motors/Graphics cards/Tablets/Phones/GD/Football etc etc all generate threads that are heated and flowing from one direction to the next. So what, especially if the topic isn't really going to generate that much of a reply anyway. I have no problem if that's how the forum will be moderated from now on but don't see why it should be moderated any differently from other sections.

If they want to moderate anything in the F1 threads they should moderate the +1 posts in race threads.

Schumachers pitting.
Yellow Flag
It's raining
Suns out

Like we are not all watching the race feed anyway :D The F1 threads are equally as clogged with a running commentary on what we are all watching anyway. You don't get that in football threads at least.

Giggs to welbeck to Carrick, back to wellbeck and he shoots. :p

Yeah, but it becomes a problem when a discussion that would be on-topic gets obliterated by the same off-topic arguments over and over and over and over and over....

....some time later....

....and over and over again :)

It's not the running commentary that is annoying.

It's the way that almost any thread on whatever topic will descend into bickering about X vs Y between the same users. And it goes on and on and on, really tiresome.

It makes people like myself and many others think FFS I can't be arsed reading this tripe, click back and exit the thread. Thread well and truly derailed and abandoned.

Really annoying as F1 and motorsport is a big hobby of mine but some of the bickering that goes on in this forum is maddening.
