Paddy Lowe to Mercedes?

Yeah, but it becomes a problem when a discussion that would be on-topic gets obliterated by the same off-topic arguments over and over and over and over and over....

....some time later....

....and over and over again :)

Fair enough I will try my hardest to limit myself in future :)
Although even when you start topics for those discussions as I have previously they still end up spilling over :D

It's not the running commentary that is annoying..

Well it is to me, it's dull and stifles chat about anything interesting actually happening in the race because it's lost under a sea of people all posting "schumacher pits" at the same time (for example).

I'm not talking about discussion on Kobi's great overtaking manovere, just stuff that is a typed commentary on what we can all see. To me that's more boring and dull as I can actually see with my own eyes what's happening and don't need some Leggard wannabe filling a thread with it :D

See we all find different things annoying in these sections, but yet I accept your points :)

good job on not reading the post.

I read your post just fine thanks. Car breakages aside he has too much off track nonsense going on for him to truly focus or racing. Theres a media circus around everything he does that he could do without, IMO.

Do you not think the off track guff that follows him around doesn't affect him?

well what would you do if you felt your team wasn't doing your tallent any justice? quick but unrealible.. its like ferrari back in the day before the micro chip was invented.

Indeed. Had Hamilton's car been as reliable as the Ferarri or Lotus (i.e. never breaking) then he would have won the championship easily.

Fair enough, it can't be denied McLaren let him down on a number of occasions and he didn't deserve to miss out so many times. I'm not actually anti-Lewis I just think he would be better served having a team (management) that focus on him rather than money and media hype.

Upgrade my team to one that can provide.................. Where did I put that energy drink?

I'm slightly concerned that Mercedes may be heading down the same path as Toyota in that they are trying to 'buy' success. The problem with people high up throwing money at the sport is that when the results don't come, they can turn their back in an instance. What happens if after 2 or 3 years of buying every person they can they are still just the 4th or 5th fastest team? There is going to be a lot of presssure on anyone who does join Mercedes to deliver, simply because if they don't they may find themselves without a job!

Watched the 2009 season review dvd the other day and forgot how good Toyota were at the start of the season, podiums and all.

The problem with Williams is that they don't have money to spend on drivers/staff/R+D.
If Brawn goes there, what can he do? His hands are tied due to budget limitations.
It's the equivalent of a top football manager moving to a team with poor finances - it won't happen because the manager would be doing his job with one hand tied behind his back.

Williams' big mistake was made over a decade ago, when they didnt commercialise their brand and cash in on their WDCs. Think about this: they had Mansell, Prost and Senna in successive years. Arguably the top 3 drivers in F1, in their time. During this time, they should've been working hard on branding/marketing. They then had 2 more WDCs, a few years later, which they let go immediately after winning the title.

It's almost like Williams were trying to destroy themselves.

Meanwhile, McLaren (who were Williams' main competition during the early 90s), were commercialising their brand and making all sorts of deals, which would mean that their future revenues would increase significantly, with time. McLaren also did a good job with hanging onto their (marketable) WDCs.

I agree but I wouldnt be surprised IF RB had a few sponsors in his back pocket.......

Sounded very much like it would be this season.

Whitmarsh seemed to indicate yesterday it would be next season at the earliest at the lauch yesterday
(although you never know admittedly - even if Lowe has "left" McLaren, I would still expect a significant amount of time for "gardening leave" before joining Merc)
