PANASONIC TX-58AX802B issues so have been given a refund, going for something better £3k

Been to look at HU8500 today. Some awesome pictures and no sign of screen uniformity issues. :) the slight negative is that I've just been reading some forums posts from owners with intermittent motion and judder problems on their sets. It's a real mine field!

I'm pleased you are so happy with the set. When we were in our local store today testing out the HU8500, the samsung rep let me do a white to black greyscale uniformity test, and there was no banding at all. It's the first led set ive seen that has passed this test! The 58inch panny that I bought initially had vertical banding and the replacement, the 55 inch 902b which I'm currently looking at, has horizontal banding (just like Venetian blinds) Its an amazing coincidence that you've had, and rejected the exact same sets for pretty much the same reason. So you can understand, more than anyone, why I'm being cautious about committing to yet another led set.
I'm glad you haven't noticed any motion/judder problems as reported on avforums owners thread. Maybe the software updates has eradicated this now.
I'm even considering the 65inch now, as I can get it for 3k - take advantage of the curve!
 
Personally I would get the sony KD55X8505b 4k set in a heartbeat , I own the 49" version and its the best set I have ever used , detail even in 1080p upscaled to 4k is astounding. There's no lag or trailing either opinion fast moving objects :) There's only slight uniformity issues with mine , blacks can sometimes look grey but that's due to the limitations of an ips panel .. My pioneer kuro had better blacks but nowhere near as much detail and pop in the image :eek:
 
I can only go by the set i got
both 802b and 902b where fantastic pictures but had banding/clouding, vertical light on panning shots and backlight bleed that completely crippled the set in dark scenes.

this samsung i have is in another league, no issues to report on the issues above with panasonic.

not to mention currys KNOWHOW tried to get a return authorisation from panasonc for the 902b set and they down right refused and didnt want anything to do with the set, its like once its out of there factory they want nothing more to do with it and the guy on the other end of the phone to the know how employee was down right disrespectful so they took it on there own back and bought the replacement set for me saying that they would do a field test on it before giving me it, so i recived the set and all the exact same issues i had with the previous sets where there, and it was not even tested before i got it lol

so i took it back directly to the shop and got the samsung and have been happy ever since
its a real riddle trying to get the perfect set and i can honestly say without a doult that samsung has the better build quality with there led sets compared to panasonic they just havent quite mastered it and the only reason i went with them was becuse of there plasma`s but thats where it ends with panasonc for me, i will probably try them again in 5 years to see if they have improved. i mean samsung where the first to get the led sets out then the oled sets and next the quantam dot sets they seems to be advancing far quicker than panasonic.
and + panasonic seems to be pricing there sets like 1-1.5k higher in price compared to the competition.

How's the new set going after about a weeks viewing? I hope you are still as thrilled with it. Me and the wife are still dithering, as there is another contender - the Sony KD65X9005b. It seems to tick all the boxes except when playing DVDs - really poor at that. Ironically, the panasonic 902b made a good job of that.
 
very happy to report that the set is still wowing me.... ;)
bds are awesome and 4k what little there is of it is a mind bender everything is so crisp.
Not saying 1080p bd`s are not crisp cause they are and some bds can even look as good as 4k if you can believe that one lol

You need a really good Blu-Ray player for that.
