Parcelforce, what a joke.

I remember when i had something from parcelforce, i was watching him in my driveway writing out the ticket when i was blatantly stood with my arms crossed in the window.

opened the door just when he was going to put the note in, asked for his name and got the package. I suggest you try the same, the face he put on was comical.

I work for PF

Im wondering if someone will complain about me today. Today I called at a house, downstairs window open and TV on. Shouldnt be a problem then.

After knocking at the door and ringing the doorbell quiet a few times I think, hmm, nice day they might be round the back sunning themselves. Open the side gate and go round, back door is open but nobody about. I shout in the backdoor but didnt get a reply.

I then call at the neighbours on the left, then the right, nobody home. I then try banging on the door again

Safe to say they will be waiting until monday to receiver their item.

I love it the way everyone jumps on the bandwagon and puts down an entire company, not one person I know cards a house without even knocking.

Lets get one thing straight, It is not in my interest to bring back a delivery, I only have to go and do the bloody thing the next day, making twice as much work for myself.

This man sums it up perfectly :)

City Link are terrible for this, I used to work in a school and they'd claim we there was no on in during term time, well there were only 600 people on site and 3 permanently in reception, easy mistake I suppose

When are people going to start to realise its NOT THE COMPANY but the DELIVERY MEN.

Everyone has identical stories for both sides of the coin for every company. For everyone that hates Royal Mail, theres another with a guy who goes out of his way to bring you a package. For every Citylink distaster story, theres someone else with great service. AT the end of the day you can hire and fire people as you get them if they suck at the job but the new guy might be just as bad and again and again.

Delivery companies are much the same as each other frankly, but depending on where you are the driver who will deliver to your street might be great or might be an ASS. THeres bad people in all jobs in all sectors, tis life really.

City link are great around here, parcelforce were fantastic for years, then the guy who'd been working our area for, hell, 5 years moved on and the next guy was awful, the guy after that up till now has been great. Royal mail have always been fine around here except now for the last 3 months we've had a complete idiot, late every single day with normal mail, repeatedly get wrong houses mail, they do the recorded delivery and only on weekends(when she doesn't work) do they turn up on days they should during the week we never fail to not get the package despite seeing her come to the door. :(

The man (or woman) represents the company.

"It's not their fault, they just have **** staff."

"Really? Oh, I forgive them then, they are really a great company"

In this case I don't actually have an issue with PF, but everywhere I;ve lived CL have been appauling, but still; if a driver fails to deliver then it's the companies fault.

Lopez asked before about 'Lack of Driver Time' which I presume is some way of monitoring the delivery guys to ensure they are performing their jobs correctly. If the company don't do this, or some effective equivalent, then people will naturally slack, it's human nature. Therefore the behaviour of the delivery guy is PF's responsibility since they gave him a contract and entrusted him with your package.

Never had a problem with Parcel Force, City Link Or Royal Mail, anything i've ordered has always turned up on time, they've always knocked and have always been polite.

Am i just lucky?

Yea, but have you used em recently?
They all used to be ok for me but theyv been a bit of a joke over recent years, possibly may be down to be being at uni though, they were ok in my hometown, probably cos most people were too poor to have computers, the internet and buy things online back then.

The postman rang today at 9, i was asleep. Jumped right out of bed to open the door and he gave me 2 packages, but i spotted a already written card in his other hand !!!

If you think you guys have it bad listen to this:

Ordered a X-52 joystick back around the 22nd of April. Lots of hassle because the delivery address wasn't the same as on the credit card.. got that sorted eventually a week ago. Yesterday we got a card through the door saying that they'd been and no one was home and they're keeping the package for 5 days... up in Knock! Which is like 2 hours drive from us atleast.

Funny thing was after I'd called them and managed to organise another dropout by them on a day I knew someone would be there I turned the card around. It had a bloody stamp on it! They'd actually sent it like a postcard in the mail saying that they'd been and no one was there. How bloody stupid do they think we are.

General Logistics Services or whatever they're called... bunch of absolute ******s.

all curiours are the same, why don't they say stuff the time sheets and wait a while if no reply then leave a note, instead of just leaving a note without trying to see if the person is in

Thats what they do do.

Drivers dont drive to people houses, then card them without knocking, to only have to come and call again tomorrow.

You know why?
Because they would be fired on the spot for gross misconduct if it was proved thats why.

I've worked for 5 different carriers over 15 years and not heard of it happening once.

I'm not implying they are lying, they believe something happened that didnt.

You only have to have the flimsiest insight of a delivery drivers job to realize how preposterous some of the statements in this thread are.

Im with the others on this to be honest, theres been times that iv watched a delivery driver walk up my drive without a parcel with just a card, for me to greet them at the front door and it take them a good 5-10mins to re-appear from the back of the van with my package.
Iv also experienced people leaving my expensive packages on the doormat or in the alleyway round the side of the house, as in an unsheltered alleyway on an overcast day.. Rain would have been amusing.

I do not agree that its all the drivers fault, if they leave something in a stupid place then yes it is, but most of the time they are given too many packages to deliver and have targets to meet, which are detrimental to the overall service, the company does not care because it still receives all the same amount of business and generates more revenue due to drivers being burdened with more packages than they can handle.
I kind of see it like the NHS, the doctors often cant see us because they're too busy that day due to appointments only being available in that day with no future bookings aloud, this is because of government targets, we do not blame the doctors for this, we blame the nhs.

Its not the drivers who fill up their vans, who set the targets etc, but its their ass on the line.

I've had depot managers take parcels round personally on request to irate customers who screamed about how the driver never knocked etc etc - and the customer has STILL failed to answer the door when the DM has called!

It beggars belief.

That's because the driver knows that very often residential customers will not be home in the day. They are not going to dig the parcel out unless they know there will be someone at the delivery point.

On my last day out with a driver, we were delivering to a mobile mechanic. Pulled up, no cars on the drive, driver said "probably out", got a calling card out, walked up to the door, knocked and the guy was there after all. So we went to the van, dug out the freight and gave it to him.

No point rummaging around for a parcel when nobody is there to accept.

.

If i ever go out driving and get a residential delivery I never carry the parcel up the drive, i go to the door and knock first.
Then if no one answers i get the card out of my pocket, knock again then if still no answer i write the card out and stick it through the letter box.

What you are saying infers no wrong doing on the drivers part.

I would suspect this is probably more what people are referring to as "the driver trying to get away without delivering the parcel"

You try to handle the parcels as little as possible, you get a little fed up of dragging your sorry arse up some idiots drive way lugging a 32 inch TV only to find you have to card it and lug the bloody thing all the way back again.

Quite a few postmen write out the cards before they leave their delivery office just because it saves time if no one is in and it can be quite awkward trying to write out a card when standing at a door holding a pile of mail. It doesn't mean they plan to just post the card and leg it without trying to deliver the item, if that was his intention he would have left it behind to save carrying it.

Yea i have, infact city link turned up this morning on time.

Parcel Force turned up on time last week.

And royal mail got here on time too.

Seems i do have better luck with some companies

Back at my parents house i had a delivery from parcel force and can see up the drive from the armchair i was eating my cereals in. I saw the van pull up, thought "great, my new bike wheel is here" put my cereal bowl down and watched as the woman walked up the drive with a card and just pushed it through the letter box. I was like

I ran to the door, grabbed the card from the floor and opened the door. Caught up to her on the drive and asked her what the hell she was doing. She said she rang the doorbell, waited a few minutes but nobody was home. She didn't know what to say when i said i watched her the entire time she was walking up the drive.

Silly me also thought that'd be it, oh no, she hadn't even got the parcel in the van when i asked for it. It was back at the depot. I was fuming, rang up the company while she was still on the drive and informed the managery person what had gone on.

He wasn't happy either, made me give her the phone and from the look on her face i think its safe to say she was getting a bollocking. After 30 minutes she was back, with the parcel and an apology which was gracefully accepted.

I didn't mention anything when she gave me the parcel, just said thanks, but i hope she got some kind of formal punishment for it.
