Basically same as the ticket except they have your car to force you to pay
We have a clamper at my car park and I've had to remove them a couple of times from my gf car and as long as you don't damage them then it's fair game.
How do you manage to remove them out of interest?

it is a speculative invoice, which is incorrectly addressed. (They post it to the RK regardless of who was driving at the time, sounds like a legit strategy to me!)

this just encourages them to send you more junk in the post. You could also implicate yourself by poor use of language.
BE PREPARED FOR SCARY SOUNDING LETTERS,
MANY WITH RED INK,
and/or a black and white chequered border to make it look like a genuine council/police ticket. The letters will include threats to your credit score, ccjs, bailiffs, etc. BUT they use the word "might" & "maybe" an awful lot too, because they know they know they are toothless threats and they will get owned in court and want you to wet your pants and give them money for no reason out of fear.
All they would be allowed to claim against you in a small claim is the lost earnings from you using the parking space. Exactly how much income was lost from you not paying for your parking space in the free asda carpark...?

As people have well and truly mentioned above 
if you don't intend to pay do NOT enter into any correspondence with them - unless your well versed in the legal side of it there are actually ways that you could end up handing them a viable case for court on a plate through inadvertent admission, etc.

You can quite easily implicate yourself by accident and give them enough evidence for a small claims action against you. (although they will have a hard time justifying any significant amount you will quite likely end up having to pay costs as well and you never know whoever makes the judgement might not be very sympathetic and award them a higher amount).

How is that removing without damaging? I thought the only way to get them off was to pop the ball joint out or something.

As I explained earlier, it's only due to a technicality based on 'not knowing' who was driving that allows you to avoid these - accidentally admit that you were driving and then you're fair game and they'll have an easy ride taking you to court and winning.
^^ Its 2 issues for them one actually knowing who to issues the invoice to and the other that in most cases they will only be awarded cost to them that they can actually prove and in most cases anything other than a couple of quid or so will be impossible to make a case for - taking it to court under these conditions would end up costing the car park company a lot more money than they'd ever get back.
However you can implicate yourself inadvertently through correspondence potentially giving them written evidence that you accept that you were the person who should be charged and/or even as far as you accept the amount they are trying to charge at which point they will have a feasible civil case against you that would likely get them a judgement at a small claims hearing.
I suspect in the case of whoever it was whose brother got taken to court above the £90 or so cost was actually more like £5 that the car company could justify as being out of pocket and the rest was the cost of taking the action which the losing party would normally have to pay.

I assume you mean council ? in which case yes most probably unless you can get off on a technicality i.e broken yellow lines etc

I got one of these for parking somewhere that I had a permit for, but forgot to display it. I can't remember what they asked for but it was either £60 or £90. I put it in the bin.
The missus dug it out and paid it behind my back. To say there was a massive row when I found out was an understatement.
So yes, these do work on some people. But don't be one of them.

Just try and be the bigger man and admit you dont know what you are talking about, because it is patantly obvious that you dont. This is not an opinion, it is a fact.

The Watchdog clampers episode was a good one where one of the team parked in a road and while she was still sitting in the car a van pulled in front of her and clamped the car.
Just as she agreed to pay the clamp removal fee the van driver said it's too late because the lorry is on it's way so it will cost an even bigger fee.
They are scum.

Had one of these ages ago, Asked for £90!.
Had a little read online and ignored it, like people have said got some scary letters through the post for a couple of months increasing the fine to £130.
Last letter I got was them offering me a deal to only pay £60 as a goodwill jesture..... I laughed and ignored it. Why chase somone for £130 then a month later go "nah its fine just pay £60"
