Part-worn tyres

Shame its not summer i think we should do a manchester to wales drive and camp meet / BBQ Beer, Oh My :D

On a side note you two still coming silverstone?

I bought a wheel from a breakers the other day for the 214i.

£10 + VAT, nice steelie with an almost new Dunlop tyre on :)

Now that is a plan Firestar! :D

I'm well up for Silverstone. Should have the car just as I want it (mechanically) wise by then. Trying to set up a convoy too as I know I'd just get lost.

Hmmm, might check the breakers then, but I'd have the fun of locating wheel nuts for the steelie and also having to dispose of it when it's purpose was fulfilled.

1. No, I'm supposed to be 'saving'
2. Pft, 2 hours of 70-80mph driving... tyre gets hot... bulge expands... tyre explodes... worst case, goodbye car
3. Sorry, I edited my post earlier as I didn't want people to know the truth :p :D

edit... haha, I just noticed you typed point 3 in by yourself. You need to learn how to spell ;)

Anyway, stop this whoring!

4hrs on the motorway and you will have spent something like £30 in petrol? could you not have made that saving had you sourced from elsewhere?

1 how are you saving money if your just spending it on the tenth ,surely your spending more by buying more tyres unecessarily

2 One less Rover on our roads, don't see a problem there.

3 And they still dont

edit whats wrong with my spelling. :D

 But then it wouldn't be a Manchester Meet would it?

And a bi'atch to organise.

It would be "the" Manchester Meet, just a little lost in direction :p

Wouldn't be any different to organising any other meet bar we would randomly stop rather than pre-book the pub!

Its not going to be a rover ;)

And yeah im definately doing the camping trip :)

Can't leave you guys alone for a minute can I? :p

Right, I'm getting these wheels with Eagle F1's for a touch over £100. The tyres have done under 1000 miles and if I bought the same size tyres brand new, it would cost me over £160 for 4. That's before fitting.

I could get lower profile 15's for £35 a corner I think, but would still have to pay for fitting.

I'm pretty sure if I put the spare tyre on the front, even though both fronts are almost bald, they'd get me to Wales and back. If I did happen to get stopped by the police I could just point out the 4x h000ge tyres on my back seat.

edit... Another reasoning behind the new wheels, is that I can then take mine off the road and get them refurbished.

If you can I'd get some part worns, (I think Kwik Fit may sell them) for your fronts to tide you over. The bulging tyre sounds a bit dodgy.

I'd be up for a drive to mid wales, I know those roads rather well because I was at uni in Aberystwyth for 3 years and drove home at least once a month for a year and a half.

That was my logic behind it too thebrasso, I LOVE the roads down from chester past Bala down towards Dolgellau, and judging on the destination Andy gave me last month, those roads could be just the ticket! (And no cameras in sight!).

Aye, tis a good run down from Chester from the north. Then you could keep going towards Aberystwyth, I could give you a guided tour ;) Then head east and go A44, A470, A483 for a bit, A458 to the Shrewsbury bypass. From there you can head to Stoke or go up the M54 to the M6 at J12.

Some awesome bits of road, but coming back through mid wales you get lots of heavy goods vehicles. And people who drive like wetters. More so than me even.

Edit: Really nothing in the way of active cameras or much in the way of police presence. A few speed check areas but they are signed up anyway.

Manchester meet invades Wales on March 25th? Pretty PLEASE?!

Btw Andy, my mate with a Rover 100 had a bulging tyre which went flat very quickly when we got on the motorway. We got the tyre changed, and the same happened again... then again after he changed the replacement. I believe it was a problem with the wheel/maybe the tracking - certainly worth checking though as you don't want to have to replace too many Eagle F1's

 Thanks for that Nick!

I was actually going to take the car to be tracked/balanced/aligned after I had the Eagle's fitted as you're right, I don't want to have to replace those things on a regular basis.

Damn your stupid exams btw :p I'll have to catch Jon on MSN and see if he can make it... has he moved yet?

Wow this thread has gone OT.

I'm up for it, even if it is my B'day!

Ohhh, a birthday meet... sounds cool :D

Nick, where abouts in Wales mate? I could be up for it. Got to put my suspension, new tyres and strut braces up for a good pasting ;)

Anyway, went out this lunch time to get a few quotes for tyres... the first place I tried didn't do part worns but quoted me £55 for each tyre. I asked him if they were budget tyres to which he responded, "they're Nankangs which are a good tyre".

:o If he thinks Nankang are GOOD, then I hate to think what he thinks as bad.

Got one more place to try after work.
