Hi

I've never partitioned a hard drive before; so i don't know much about it.

I was wondering if a drive partitioned in 2 (1 partition for the OS and programs and the other one for the rest of the data) would be faster and perform better than just leaving it as one drive.

Thanks

Slightly as your initial partition would be on the outer edge of the drive which is the fastest part.

Performance aside, your approach will make it easier to backup just your data partition and it will make defragging easier too - as you will probably have different rates of use on the two partitions so fragmentation will be at different rates too.

Not so much problems, but yes most installers will default to c:\program files but you were thinking of keeping OS and Apps on the same partition so no issue there.

Initially Windows puts the Users or My Documents folders on the C:\ partition so you might want to move these to the second partition. Once moved most programs will recognise the new location for saving data to.
