Pascal Titan-X Launch

Ok, order placed, could not resist!

Upgrading from 980TI - it'd better be good!!!

Take a deep breath and order a 1080, your wallet will say thanks ;)

Nah, too late - 1080 isn't much better than 980TI, but Titan should get 50% improvement which is ok to make it till Titan V...

250w is still the power it requires, which is what his argument is. 300w is not 'unacceptable' if that's what it would take. HBM2 is certainly not going to reduce draw by 50w, anyways.

Honestly, it's drunkenmaster here. If this was AMD, he'd be saying the same things I am. He merely adjusts his arguments based on what suits his agenda best. It's actually funny because if he actually believes what he's saying, he should be very worried about what AMD can do to even compete given they are behind in efficiency compared to Pascal. I know Vega is supposed to bring further improvements and HBM2 should help, but that will more than likely just bring them closer in line to what Nvidia has to deal with, not leapfrog them. Unless Vega is some huge hit and Polaris is just some poor stopgap.

No but what he is saying is right about HBM2 and lowering TDP so they can have bigger GPU etc. Nothing to do with AMD, I do not think AMD are going to be competitive with the TXP.

No its pretty impossible at this point for AMD to compete with the TXP. Even a 5000 shader core polaris would match a 1080 at best.

It would take a seriously power hungry card to come anywhere near the TXP.

Too late now ;)

enjoy your new card! personally the 980 Ti can do pretty much maxed out at 1080p and 1440p still and even though I'm at 4k the new Titan would be very much welcomed though personally I couldn't put down £1100 of my hard earned cash oh what is essentially 'failed broken' chips and not the fully fledged GP102

His point about HBM2 helping lower TDP is correct. Him saying that this is absolutely the reason that a bigger Pascal GPU doesn't exist is not correct.

Pretty big difference.

And my points about AMD were simply because drunkenmaster's own biases. Were this a discussion about AMD, he would not be going out of his way to make these arguments and would absolutely be trying be far more reasonable.
