Pascal Titan-X Launch

No its pretty impossible at this point for AMD to compete with the TXP. Even a 5000 shader core polaris would match a 1080 at best.

It would take a seriously power hungry card to come anywhere near the TXP.
To be fair, Vega is supposed to bring further improvements to efficiency and will also use HBM2 to help lower power draw slightly.

I wouldn't say it's impossible for AMD to compete with Titan X at all, they'll just have to really solidly deliver with Vega. In terms of doing better than that? That's more debatable. But I still think a bigger Nvidia card is theoretically not out of the question. Nothing about Pascal suggests it is not possible. Not to say that it'll happen, just talking theoretically.

Must say I think this is possibly the worst GPU launch I have ever seen... 2 reviews. The 1080 had about 50 reviews.

Nvidia didn't send any to reviewers. Most will have to wait till tomorrow to have the card then they have to benchmark it.

Because sampling would have been strictly from NV. If anything, it will show you (especially out of the YT bloggers) who's just out for freebies and who cares about being relevant.

There haven't been ANY proper reviews as far as I can tell. A quick blurb and the odd benchmark doesn't make for a full review.

Unless I've missed something.

I did call this a while back, though. Lack of leaks/rumors made it obvious nobody had this card in their hands pre-release.

$1200 for a GPU with performance you can get for two thirds the price by Xmas and half the price in a year or so. Do we all have shorter memories than goldfish?

No offense to people that bought them, but I do think there's a 'keeping up with the jonses' mentality sometimes.

i.e They didn't really intend to spend so much as they know it's a bit ridiculous but they've seen others buy it and can't help themselves, and get caught up in the hype.

It's a hobby/pastime for the rich and why not? Makes no economic sense but high stuff don't.

My old boss had a hypercar. Needed a £5000 clutch every few thousand miles, tyres lasted about the same at 1200 a tyre, a service was thousands.

I once worked out that it cost him £89 per mile and when he ran ou of cigarettes and drove a mile to the garage that £8 packet was costing him £196.

So people who spend£4K on four of these are no different. If you have the money and its your hobby, why not.

I need the card for gaming, some of the games I own have managed to flatten every other card I own.

Civ 5 late in the game on a huge map with a huge empire will be too much for even a 1080 and 6950X CPU, I have tried.:D

That's fine, if I had the money I would get two.

But there are definitely people who said they wouldn't get this because of the price, who have now gone on to place orders.

Name them.

At £1200 I will wait till xmas and see what appears or not as the sli 980's run most stuff atm

Well replacing my 2 980's for the titan x roll on 1-3 days !

Got a 1080, think i'll skip this and wait for the Ti which I'm guessing we'll see November time if past releases are anything to go by and it'll be 3/4% slower and cost less.
1080 £620
Titan £1100
Ti £800?

**** my life I'm going to buy one.
