Path of Exile(diablo clone)

I've just clocked 2200 total hours. i play in a...probably quite unfun way to a lot of people though so I wouldn't recommend it!

The Day 3 Maven kill was an absolute first and I had help from the guild in getting a few bits together(Atziri's Steps and a decent chest piece for Spell Suppression mainly). So it wasn't totally solo in that regard but my current plan is to be in maps by 3-4am - Though realistically it'll be 5-6am with messing around with the league mechanic. , nap, then go for reds towards the end of day 1 and then start focussing my atlas tree. I'm waiting for the planner to be updated so I can set it in before league start, wanna block as many of the 'useless' content pieces as I can and focus my currency strat. I only need two voidstones to throw myself in to a full cycle as my main farming map(Glacier) is T16 at that stage. Get UE/Maven down on Day 3/4 again and then start just currency farming. I'm not rushing the Ubers as yet, at least not until I can afford to lose to them.....

I'll be honest I'm not impressed with his guide. 5 mins in and he's showing end game gear and talking about how great the "Crown of the inward eye" is, he's a bit all over the place. I've followed much better guides, I can work it out, but the info isn't easy to access when you need it, it's a lot of effort and wasting time. Esoro's guide for LS was far better, everything is timestamped, you can access everything almost at will, and it only lasted 20 mins. I think he assumes in this you;ve played tons of builds and have played Bane before. I can see end game kinda gear after 5 mins - I can't access info as to what i'm supposed to link Blight and ED to? Nope! - POB Notes section gives you 4 link Bain set up. + TC + Despair + DC - doesnlt say anything about what to link with Blight and ED - but earlier in notes he says "Since the build really shines when we are able to combine Bane + Blight + ED we want them all 3-4 linked ASAP = all of these will want 1G 3B.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY3u4u1fMLA&t=625s - Esoro

Like the build, got to Act 3 pretty easy with Flame Wall and Holy Flame Totem - that's not the issue at all, but the presentation is poor. My worry with this build is I'm going to spend far too long trying to access info. Whereas with the above it was 1 video, 21 mins, all time stamped.

I'll be honest, I haven't looked at his own levelling guide since 3.16 so I can't speak for a newcomer to the build. I've customised my PoB for Bane extensively since then. For a quick Bane overview for Act 3/4 though:

Bane + Temporal Chains + Despair + Controlled Destruction - BBBG
Essence Drain + Controlled Destruction + Swift Affliction + Void Manip - BBGG(Can use Efficacy if BBBG)
Blight - Infused Channeling - Void Manip - Controlled Destruction - BBBG

There's also a complete playthrough and levelling guide playlist from Sub going through the first week of the build and his thought processes on it so you can get an understanding on why he takes certain notables/gear choices and he's updated that for the newest version using Determination/Defiance Banner/Grace too.

Esoro's guides are undeniably a different level though and if you're more comfortable with that that's probably the route to go. Sub actively doesn't want to hand hold people through the builds where he can avoid it so yeah, it can be difficult sometimes. The initial levelling PoB resonated with me and I stuck with it and learned a lot(though the dude who re-did the notes appears to have made it way more wordy which is....unfortunate, the initial notes by Sub were much better imo).

Thanks for gem link set-ups.

I've done a few builds, only real serious ones were Poisonous Conc, and the LS one, so I have some knowledge. I know for vets every league is a massive rush to end game, but I'm not going to try and play that way. So I don't mind taking my time but I also don't want to waste it. Im going to play with this until Friday and then decide if i'm comfortable starting it or going with LS again, probably trying Bane later on. I've really enjoyed the build it so far just been a bit of a headscratcher, definiyely like the play style, so I well be perservering with it.

I need to watch through his playlist again perhaps.

I'm pretty familiar with most the usual aura's and movement skills (loved withering step set up for PC). So that's no problem. What do you think are best chest bases for this build?

I'm kinda preferring less specific POB guides now, just rough tree at the four trials instead of some which seem to specify at every act. Usually you can make small changes to the tree to better reflect the gear you've found or created compared to the ideals the guide is setup to. Allows you to think about what's going on and try to work out mechanics. Think this is my 4th proper league though and usually try out 5+ chars per league.

Bane build was really fun, think I tried it out in 3.15 and took it to lvl 90~. Some of his vids and guides tend to be more exploratory than a fully min/maxed character (dirty SC players).

I have no choice but to take my time :D, honestly I'm getting a load of whoosh moments and until I start playing the game this weekend I'll not really start to grasp it.

There's two versions you can go with Bane but I'd recommend looking at Armour/Evasion bases for the 'best' version(tanky with solid DPS using Determination/Grace - I drop Malevolance eventually). I personally don't favour the double influenced ones for the +1/+1 gems as I feel my damage is more than adequate without it and aim to have T1 Spell Suppression/Life/double or triple Res on a chest as SS is utterly busted once you hit 100%(just standing in Sirus 'Die' beams for example). Divergent Withering step is a massive boon when you can get it with the 'Corruption' anointment but the non-alt gem is great too for just that added DoT damage. My aim is to go for good armour for taking some hits, 100% Spell Suppression and high evasion under Grace/Vaal Grace. Makes a lot of the content pretty easy to do on very little investment, I managed the Maven kill on a 5L Cane of Unraveling for Bane and a 6L chest with life/SS with ED. It wasn't deathless, I'm not Lightee but I got her down.

Softcore always! I skipped Expedition as the flask changes immediately put me off but I've run it since Scourge and just gone further and further with it. I check out the premade PoB's but I have mine that I tinker with and play with ideas as, much like yourself being able to add and change things gives me a better understanding of what's going on. I skipped using an Ashes this league as I'd moved to my endgame build by the time it really took off but I'm gunning for one as soon as possible this league...means I'll never drop it of course.

PoE is overwhelming as hell, it's the only game I play(at any kind of committed level at least) and I still find myself asking what the hell is going on from time to time. 3.17 added a lot of good stuff, 3.18 looks to make that a much more focussed shift which should be amazing. I'm not even overly concerned about the league mechanic though it's definitely going to be fun throwing sentinels on map bosses/conquerors....once I can handle them. Nothing like getting a tormented Drox to ruin your XP gains!

Thanks, I just wondered whether there's any need for any Energy Shield? I always feel like I'm more vulnerable to one shots without some. That might be just be psychological though.

You have a 50% chance to ignore a stun when you have any ES.

Lots of people use the Gravicius chest prefix craft (up to 10% of max life as extra max ES) or/and a Doryani Glorious Vanity jewel (same mod, but 15%). Those two combined can add thousands of Energy Shield.

Pretty cool vid looking at builds which perform well in the first week in SSF, good for players which won't earn large amounts from trading even in trade league

Teaf nailed it, you always want to have some. I feel unless you're going CI and you have to stack up ES, with the current state of armour/Determination you're doing yourself dirty not going that route....though you always wanna be stacking armour, even one or two pieces does enough with how insane Determination is right now, even better if you can get Divergent Determination but...that went up to 80Ex this league, a bit much. Just putting my Eva/ES Bane build from the start of 3.17 in to PoB and switching to Ashes/Determination/Grace nearly tripled it's eHP and Max Hit Taken while also taking it to nearly 2.8M Sirus DPS in PoB on gear I'd describe nicely as 'awful' outside of the near perfect Ashes. Mostly just benchcrafted Rog pieces and a couple of uniques.

*snip*

I'll have to check that out once I'm back from cinema. All about the analytics and I've started getting in to SSF recently too, nice share. Thanks!

Thanks I will look out for the Gravicius mod, in Harvest right? (once you acquire it does it then transfer to your crafting bench?) - These particular jewels confuse me - What does this nonsense mean?

"Bathed in the blood of (100-8000) sacrificed in the name of (Ahuana-Doryani-Xibaqua)
Passives in radius are Conquered by the Vaal
Historic"

How is a newish player meant to interpret this in terms of what it adds to your build? - Why doesn't it just say "Adds up to 15% of max life as ES"?

As a 'seasoned' player. Timeless Jewels still baffle me, the market for them is incredibly secretive with people never giving out the most lucrative numbers for passives/keystones etc... as it's all variable to what they do, what they effect.

Edit: Yeah, once you've unveiled a mod you can benchcraft it from then on in. However it's obtained from the Betrayal mechanic(the board/Jun missions).

That's really strange, Not sure I would want spend a ton of currency on something that's basically guesswork. Gravicius sounds good though, I will definitely go after that.

The really expensive ones are sold via The Forbidden Trove with screenshots of what they hit. The posts don't list numbers so it's just people divining and trying the jewels in known good slots for the highest number of passives etc....then flipping for sometimes, hundreds of Ex.

Right, I don't think these jewels are something I need to worry about yet.

So I just built the Bane build by Subtractum with a lvl 92 i had in Standard, was able to get most of the high end gear in his pob (10 years worth of remove only tabs helps). Just absolutley destroyed a few juicy t16s. Think I might have to roll Bane now on Fri :)

Colour me sold @weaselcannon :p

Welcome, we are addicted to Profane Bloom pops and Expedition. Get your witches hat at the door.

You'd mainly use Timeless Jewels for the keystone changes. The small nodes are mostly inconsequential as it's almost impossible to get a good enough Timeless Jewel where the minor and notable passive nodes that it transforms are better than the originals, or worth diverting your build path to pick them up, and especially to form a build around it (in this case you'd buy the Timeless Jewel with the known nodes ahead of time). You'd mostly use specific Timeless Jewels in specific places, such as the jewel node that links the Scion and Witch corner next to Mind over Matter to transform that keystone into something else (as it's directly connected to a major pathing point). See the picture below for examples; the red paths are the high-traffic routes that players will normally path through when they are in that area; the yellow is the keystone, and the green is the jewel socket used to transform it.

You'll find a lot of people will use Xibaqua for Divine Flesh which gives an absurd defensive boost if you can cap your Chaos Resistance or Doryani for Corrupted Soul. The number range on the Timeless Jewel is what set of random nodes it'll generate. I wouldn't pay much attention to it as you'd mostly just use the Timeless Jewel for the keystone - if you get some good small or notable passive changes as well then that's just a bonus. The name is the person it follows (such as Xibaqua or Doryani) and that name lets you know what keystone passive you'll get (more info here).

If you're pathing through these areas and getting nothing on the way, then 3 skill points and 60~ attribute points is a small price for how powerful some of the Timeless keystones can be (and that's disregarding whatever small passive changes you might get; some can give good ones like +4% max life).

I've settles on Ziz's Explosive Arrow build as my starter build.

I can follow his play along if I get stuck , probably the best way to ease myself back in :)
