Path of Exile(diablo clone)

Going Bane w/Ashes and armour this time around for a Leaguestart. Not for the Ubers most likely but it'll allow me to do what I did this league and farm a couple of mirrors in the first two weeks and play whatever I want from then on in. Probably going CoC FR as it's an absolute immortal tank with the right Watchers Eye. The new atlas nodes are huge for pushing specific content. Being able to block useless mechanics and heighten the rate of appearance of Harvest/Expedition? Insane and I'm all about it. Harvest w/Kirac is going to be interesting too as you could theoretically block it on the Atlas, force it with Kirac and not have to spend a scarab to get Expedition to appear every couple of maps for free. Obviously, pure theory as we don't know if the atlas nodes only block natural rolls of mechanics and if they can be overwritten with scarabs/map enchants etc... but....interesting.

Sentinel itself seems fine. A little too much 'you get a menu, you get a menu' but eh, it'll be a nice quant boost. Pop a complete Expedition, pop quant Sentinel, drop all of the reroll currency and logbooks?

Any good starter builds? I have been doing Arc and Cold DOT but fancy something new.
Depends on what you like really.

I'm personally focussing Bane Occultist with Ashes and Armour/Eva for 100% Spell Suppression, a big eHP pool and some pretty solid damage while being able to play mechanics. I have played around in Path of Building with my 3.17 leaguestart and got it to somewhere in the region of 4.4M Sirus DPS with some pretty awful gear overall. I spent a lot of this league really improving my knowledge and ability to put things together better so looking back to even three months ago is crazy.

Explosive Arrow Elementalist was a big one last league, with no nerfs you're looking at a lot of the same builds. Skelly Mages(Necro) will be ludicrous once you can get your hands on a Dead Reckoning though Ghazzy has a great transition guide for minions until you do. Poisonous Concoction Pathfinder is a great and really fast leaguestart though it needs some investment at the high end, you're likely not taking on Ubers with this build though it'll be a great farmer in general.

Yeah not sure on the league. A lot of the bigger improvements are to the late game which I don't always get to.
Dunno what to league start, already tried most of the meta starters already

Tempted to level pcoc then switch to traps with a Shadow

I had it sold to me by the Expedition example by a friend in Discord. The extra recombination steps for them could be cool, the item crafting recombinator seems situational, while I'm sure it'll provide insane combos I am confident it'll be 99% garbage as ever and I'd rather sell the bases for a few c/Ex instead to craft something with Harvest/Betrayal over a bit of time.

I had several mirrors in a CoC build this league and the entire endgame reduced to a few seconds a fight by the end of the first month(besides phased encounters of course) so any extension to the endgame is a welcome addition for me. Just want to see how 'far' they've gone with them. They sold it like even with ultra builds you'll still hit a skill ceiling. I paid for six portals, I'm definitely gonna use them. I feel for those who're determined to go in to Hardcore, though Lightee will probably have them all down on day 3 again.

yeah my biggest issue is I play in league SC more like it's SSF. Just a few key purchases and occasionally simple trades but mostly don't sell anything. Really limits currency so any builds needing 50ex out out of scope. I've already played most of the viable low budget builds so it'll just feel like the same as 3.17 with a couple small changes. Honestly pretty disappointed in the changes this league.

If I stick with this league will need to start selling items to earn more currency

Yeah, a huge chunk of my income was currency sales. I even picked up a second currency tab to sell it out a lot more efficiently as I just didn't have room in the single tab at one point from overflow(Tujen just handing out chaos). My item luck wasn't too bad either, dropped a near perfect Ventors Gamble early on that went for 50Ex and sold one slightly less perfect(10iiq/55iir though) for 45Ex a couple of days ago! Also rolled a multi-mirror Shako in 15Ex of Divines but I'm not selling that, it's a unicorn and I love it.

When they add mobs do less dmg on atlas one may think, well I guess I may need that.
some of the changes done can make maps insane with various mods.
replacing the old mods with newer archnemesis mods can be interesting
and the crafting can be good and hopefully fun to have some nice items of it.

after 5 years out I've had the itch to play this again.

Looks like I'm going to have to wait another few days for the league

3.17 was all about QoL in mapping. Being able to target farm your favourite mechanic more reliably was something that allowed me to play from day 1 until the final curtain(pretty much, I've retired the build in liu of league start practice now). 3.18 is just taking that to the next level with the blocking nodes, I'm not even focussing the Uber bosses right away so that I can test out mapping with the different mapping keystones. Starting out with Bane means I can be in T16's in ~15 hours and comfortably farming them at around 20 with two voidstones to start with. Hoping to have all 4 by the end of the weekend depending on how my luck goes with picking up my 6L staff cards and hitting +2 gem levels/+2 Chaos Gems in a non-ridiculous number of fossils!

Reached 40/40 challenges for the first time this league and I played since 2012.
Dropped a mageblood so qol was good.
sentinel seems like a great addition alongside the new uber boss difficulty

oh yeah if you haven't played 3.17 then 3.18 will be really good. So many QoL improvements as weaselcannon said. There's quite a bit of build diversity at the moment as well now, multiple builds are viable both league start and end game. Quite a few ascendancies are good as well at the moment.

I'm currently melting my brain trying to figure out which build I want / trying to remember all of the game mechanics.

edit:

bye bye my work day :p

yeah just a few tips
- melee is really bad at the moment apart from spectral helix and lighting strike, but they are not really melee skills anyway
- defence systems have been revamped quite a bit, most builds will be running spell suppression to 100% which half's incoming spell damage along with 2 more layers of defence
- there's going to be a bunch of youtube vids / guides out over the next few days to pick from. Just watch out for ones with inflated damage numbers or poor defences. Poor defences will be really frustrating if you're a bit rusty

tried and tested builds which don't need a large amount of gear to get going and have good guides and POBs available
- Poisonous Concoction (one of the smoothest and most powerful through the campaign to mid maps, needs investment for late maps and bosses)
- Seismic / Exsanguinate traps (poison version is easier to gear than the crit version and will clear all content)
- Spectral Helix (lots of different versions available, all are strong though campaign and early maps, needs some work to get damage for later content but you can have a very tanky character. Skill can feel clunky to play so some don't like it)
- Subtractem Bane (fun build with good map clear but doesn't have the best defences out of the box, needs some investment for later content)
- Explosive Arrow Totems (really strong and busted build, has delayed damage which some don't like. Champion version is the most rounded with damage vs defences, elementalist version has crazy damage but needs investment for defences)
- Minions (lots of versions, not sure what's best right now)

Some people will pick build which can be converted in to a late game build once it's farmed up enough currency. I.e. if you go Champion claw spectral helix then it's pretty easy to convert in to lightning strike or spark later in the league

I was going to go for Poisonous concoction tbh

Going to league start with Lightning strike (+Vaal) again this time but with the Omni (following lolcohol), or the Bane build from subtractem. Siege was the 2nd league I ever played seriously and didn't start until a few weeks ago, got to 87 and lvl 14 maps before it was time to quit yesterday. This time I will be ready to go on Friday (shame it starts so late, 9PM).

I think i'm going to practice this Bane build and see how it feels.

80+ mods from archnemesis is going into this league replacing the old mods from 2007.
It will have a different feel fighting these mobs vs previous years and leagues.

I wish I wasn't so tired so I could play all nighters but its going to be fun.
The new crafting can be really insane really if one have a great combine.
Might be the strongest we seen since Harvest

The updated Bane build is ridiculously capable at the endgame even if people disparage it for not 'deleting' endgame bosses. It's comfortable and very capable. Day 3 Maven kill for me this league with it and I'm gonna focus 100% Spell Suppression/Determination for more tank this time around. I've ran A1-3 several times for the Bane switch in SSF and have got it to ~90 minutes to settle back in to the groove of Bane. Also a big Sub mark, he's incredibly involved in his community and the Discord community has a lot of capable people for many different builds in it's ranks. I learned a great deal about the game from living there.

For A1-3 I'd recommend going for:
Holy Flame Totem - Combustion - Added Lightning
FlameWall - Summon Phantasm
Flame Dash - Arcane Surge
Pair these with some flat damage wands(Magic Wand + Magic Topaz ring + Orb of Alteration) makes everything up to grabbing Bane a joke. I don't even check my gear properly until that point outside of links.

The crafting is going to be interesting now that they've confirmed that you can feed Corrupted/Fractured/Synth bases in to it and possibly get some potentially ludicrous outcomes at potentially ludicrous costs of course.

Challenges were announced last night too, they're insane. 24 is gonna be my aim for this league.

How are you so bloody quick!? I have 2.9k hours and can get to maps in around 6-8 hrs, but Maven in 3 days! Just how lol. I just get to red maps usually then quit because I can't make enough money (another thing I suck at).

I did Poison conc and Lightning strike this season, Lightning strike damage was insane so tempted to do it again. Did look at Sub's bane too in 3.16 I think it was, but your review on it makes me wanna try. Looks cool.

I'll be honest I'm not impressed with his guide. 5 mins in and he's showing end game gear and talking about how great the "Crown of the inward eye" is, he's a bit all over the place. I've followed much better guides, I can work it out, but the info isn't easy to access when you need it, it's a lot of effort and wasting time. Esoro's guide for LS was far better, everything is timestamped, you can access everything almost at will, and it only lasted 20 mins. I think he assumes in this you;ve played tons of builds and have played Bane before. I can see end game kinda gear after 5 mins - I can't access info as to what i'm supposed to link Blight and ED to? Nope! - POB Notes section gives you 4 link Bain set up. + TC + Despair + DC - doesnlt say anything about what to link with Blight and ED - but earlier in notes he says "Since the build really shines when we are able to combine Bane + Blight + ED we want them all 3-4 linked ASAP = all of these will want 1G 3B.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY3u4u1fMLA&t=625s - Esoro

Like the build, got to Act 3 pretty easy with Flame Wall and Holy Flame Totem - that's not the issue at all, but the presentation is poor. My worry with this build is I'm going to spend far too long trying to access info. Whereas with the above it was 1 video, 21 mins, all time stamped.
