Pathetic AMD release...

Looking to Nvidia to produce better performance for less money, now that is truly pathetic :p
You mean "Having to look to Nvidia to produce better performance for less money"? Yea...it is pathetic indeed having to do that, because of these ridiculous prices of the new gen AMD cards XD

Forget the naming and look at the prices.

7770 = 6850/70 pricing but 7770 will be slower.
7870 = 6950/70 pricing but 7870 will be slower.
7970 = 6990 pricing, but 7970 is slower.

Even the 7950 only matches the ancient GTX580 for a similar price.

AMD can kiss my ring this generation. I just wish NVidia would hurry up and give us a decent alternative.

Who cares about launch prices this is now when these new cards are no longer good value compared to their last gen counterparts.

The pricing is nothing to do with what end users care about in value in relation to the previous products, as it does not matter if you buy the old because you don't like the pricing of the new, they still made a sale and the old will be gone in the end and then all that will be left is the new with the higher price.

No, we're end users, and we are a small percentage of GPU sales.

You're forgetting the fruit based OEM

You can't compare those cards lol, the 7770 is the replacement for the 5770/6770, and is 19% faster, and cheaper on it's release day!

Pricing is as it is as etailers/AIB's want to shift old EOL stock

Yes, because contradiction rules ok

The irony is double here since you think progress is a lower price/performance ration but if it says 7xxx its ok.

AMD failure to compete effectivly in the last few years has hampered the progess of cpu/gpu power search your feelings you know it to be true.

but i guess a fanboy can never admit that.

AMD are failing yes, just got the contract to supply the next generation Xbox's, after supplying the 360, has fail written all over it. But carry on believing what you will.

Not like Nvidia have anything 28nm in the market place is it? Oh, and drop the "fanboy" bit, thanks, I run both Nvidia and AMD cards. Just because i'm defending a product, doesn't mean "fanboy", it just means I have an educated answer.

No you are excusing a new product that costs more than what it is supposed to be replacing and fails to decisively beat said older product that is 2 years old!

The fact of the matter is that the 7770 should blow the 5770/6850 out of the water and cost the same.

That is how it used to be you dont see 5770 at £300 now do you because it was as powerfull as the 4870.

The last 2 gens from AMD we have seen little progress.

The 7950 should have been £300 and the 7970 at £350

And faildozer should have atleased matched phenom clock for clock.

For those saying the replacement for the 6770 is the 7770, that's simply not the case and it's due to AMD's model line restructuring.

AMD has restructured their entire model range in light of APUs and the upcoming lack of demand for lower end GPUs due to much more powerful integrated graphics solutions, meaning that only the graphics cards from the 7700 series upwards will receive similar architectural updates to each other. As a result, the reassessment of the range has the 7750 designed to replace the 6700s and the 7770 to replace the 6800s.

The 7800s are destined to fill the remaining gap in the market, namely the space left by the 6950 and 6970, not the 6800s. This is why the features gap between the 7750 and 7770 is much larger than the 5770 and 5750 as these two cards now have to fulfill the task of both the 6700 and 6800 cards. The Anand review explains this restructuring quite clearly.

It's a sneaky move, and one that will probably fool quite a lot of consumers.

Reading this thread makes me disapointed. We have a lot of bitter fanbois. Leave fanboism to the 360 and ps3 kids.

Just to add, im very happy with my ATI 7970. runs sweet as!

Bitter fanboys? So what you're arguing is that AMD fanboys are bitter about its pricing structure for the new cards?

That's an oxymoron, and you comment just reeks of trolling intentions.

Oh and I'm enjoying my GPU setup which is more powerful than yours and cost less. I'm not bitter because I don't line myself up to get ripped off. :D

Yep, some very bitter kids in this thread, should stick to playing with their toys. Instead, they're in here, throwing their toys out the pram all the time when they try and paint something good in a bad light.

anyone ever wondered if amd and nvidia arnt working together to keep prices at the highest possible ? with the way the two camps are letting the cards go these days it is food for thought

Nothing pathetic about AMD cards. Prices yes, but the cards ... well that's subjective but IMO they are awesome.

I've bought 2 x waterblocks/single IO shield/back plate for two 7970's and believe it or not waiting for the release of the mighty Kepler! Should put the price of a 7970 squarely at £400 :D

Yes, price is the only complaint that's partly warranted, and tbh, even that is based on the priced to sell EOL 6850. What will folks do when all the 68** are gone?

What, you were expecting them to have a little heart and offer all of their brand new cards at a significant discount to you? Get a grip.

This

People who keep making stupid threads whinging about AMD really need to STFU.

People buy the cards at the price, so they sell them at that price. Simples

6990 is around £70-100 more than a 7970 at current in stock pricing

Let's take a look at some facts,

6850 is generally faster than the 7770 and the 6870 is significantly faster than the 7770.

6850 is considerably cheaper than the 7770, and the 6870 can be had for around the same price.

So given the aforementioned facts can somebody please explain to me why anyone in their right mind would choose a 7770 over a 6850 or indeed the 6870?

I'm sorry but pot calling the kettle black springs instantly to mind here tbh :rolleyes:

Nobody is trying to "paint something good in a bad light" as you put it, the problem is the 7770 is just at the wrong price point at this precise moment in time.

There's no doubt this will change over the coming months, but until that time comes I'd recommend people who are after some good old 'bang for buck' snap up the remaining 6850/6870s, and quick!

Only foolish people who don't do their research will buy them at the moment....
