Pathetic AMD release...

Don't know who's side of the discussion it helps but I found this 5770 review from Nov 18 2009 thats about a month after launch, showing card price as supplied by overclockers.co.uk at £126

review of 5770 one month after launch

my take on the situation for what its worth.

is the 7770 a bad card - NO
is it priced too high - YES
is the performance where I expected - NO

not fast enough and priced too high doesn't make the actual card bad it just means it's priced too high for its performance or it doesn't perform well enough for its price.

I think it's only fair to compare the brands when they both release products at the same time. Early driver issues and paying benchmarks/games to prefer brands do not help paint an accurate picture.

Having been buying graphics cards for some 15 yrs, I would have to say nvidia do churn out the more expensive cards. The exception being the 8800 era. My experience when swaying ATi (AMD) has only been marred by the odd poor driver release.

Swings and roundabouts, nothing worthy of forum bashing over anyhow..

No one would bash AMD if they released well priced or well preforming (bulldozer) products.

AMD just seems to be making one mistake after the other and some people are just too eager to defend AMD.

The 7970 is well performing. Well priced... The jury's out on that.

However, if I was deciding pricing, I'd keep it this way ;)

Whoever holds the market share can pretty mug charge what they like. AMD hold 100% of the market share for this generation.

Just as your eager to bash someone will be eager to defend because very little is black and white on all points and while you may decide to bash on particular points someone will defend on other points.

So while i think my rig is great because of particular points that are important to me someone else will think otherwise because or other points, like the huge amount of power and heat and AMD CPU :D, but i could ignore those valid points and pull the trump card, Your just eager to bash my rig because your jealous.

The 7970 is the price that it is due to a number of factors. The three largest factors are 28nm yield is not huge right now due to apples engagement with tsmc, as far as i'm led to believe. Nv don't have anything to compete and amd worked on general compute a lot more which have allowed them to beat the gtx580 in most gc applications, according to anandtech and their benchmarks.

Nv have done the same, it swings and roundabouts. The 5xxx series was an anomaly and is regarded by the industry as just super aggresive pricing. People were spoiled and amd branded themselves an image that they had no intention of doing.

Would I buy one at this price? No. Because they will get cheaper

@6644kp,

~5850/70 ~6 months before Fermi.
~Unlockable 6950 for £200 which matched 6970/570 performance.
~79 series released, 5 weeks later, there is a price crash because no ones buying them...
...hang on a minute, I don't believe it, folks must be buying them because there is no drop in price due to zero competition.

When Nvidia get some cards on the table prices will drop and probably not before!

You want the best, you pay for it, just like we had to pay through the nose for the 480/580's when they were the fastest kids on the block.

People who keep making stupid threads whinging about AMD really need to STFU.

People buy the cards at the price, so they sell them at that price. Simples

I have hardly been posting here lately as all the AMD this/that/price/performance talk is getting sooooooo boring that I usually nod of in front of the screen reading the same old ****, different thread!

So while i think my rig is great because of particular points that are important to me someone else will think otherwise because or other points, like the huge amount of power and heat.

It must have rubbish performance and overpriced because it contains AMD hardware, if it cost a third less to build, it would have been borderline ok!
;)

I only hope Kepler delivers and shakes things up a bit!

LOL.
I will put that right with the Intel Core i7-3960X 3.30GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £849.95 :D
EDIT: is there a dual socket mobo available ?

Chop chop, we don't have all night :p

EVGA SR-3 I believe is dual socket, not out yet though.

It all boils down to price/performance ratio for me.

And AMD has not impressed with Bulldozer or 7XXX series.

And running two 5970s? Why would I be jealous? Musy be a nightmare.

You totally missed the point of my post and you took things literally and seeing as your so far off base i just don't know where to start when it was clear i was giving example scenarios of your angle of argument and your comment about the 5970s is another example of what i was saying, because you didn't say anything about my rig before hand so why would i accuse you personally of being jealous, you totally misunderstood.

And for that reason im done with this discussion with you.

After my 4850 xfire i will never ever go Xfire/SLI again.
It was nightmare !!! Drivers stuttering games not using both cards.

**** that ****. I would rather pay extra 50f more and have single chip card...

As final8y has said, that's not what it's about.

if that's what you want then wait for it/get it and stop bitching about it to us over here.

Any compan would keep things at the price they are at the moment. They have the unique product here, they can charge whatever they like for it

No one is bitching so dry your tears.

All I and some other forum users in this thread have said is that the new 7700s are bad value for money.

And they are and there is no way you can spin it into a good thing.

At the end of the day I would like to see ever more powerful cards at lower prices. We have come a long way in terms of performance since the first GPU's and that didnt happen by providing a worse price/performance ratio.

And for that matter I am thinking of snapping up a 6000 series or 500 series card and then you can pay a premium for that 7000 or 600 series sticker while getting the same performance as me.

Hi there

For those who want a 7770 we have them in stock and at probably one of the best prices in the UK of just £114.95 Inc. VAT. :)

However buy a 6850 from us instead, far better value for money! :D

not hat it seemed like to me. But anyways, back on topic...

I agree, they are bad value for money, but what is annoying me is when people demand they reduce the price now or keep complaining about how bad AMD are. They've set the price to something people will still buy them at, and people are buying them.

Enjoy your 6000/500 cards, i'll be more tha happy with whatever card I buy next, as I hope anyone would be
