PATIENCE - IF PLANNING TO BUY A 50 SERIES..........

Yet another launch with low supply. Been basically a constant theme for near 30 years this point....you get the odd exception but more often than not it's a mad scramble on launch day.

NVIDIA probably don’t care if they never sell a 5090, so long as they keep supplying hardware for all their other customers. Just launching it is enough to say they have the fastest graphics card.

Considering it’s a world wide launch they’ve likely made millions of cards, but spread out it makes numbers a little thin. There will likely be half a dozen or more suppliers in the UK alone all stocking cards so it’s not really unexpected that a retailer might only receive a couple of hundred.

They're almost always world wide launches and generally it's the same theme every time. You'd think by now amd and nvidia could anticipate demand and release at a point where they have a sufficient supply. They've had decades of practice after all and plenty of us have been around for them, only to see the same theme occur time after time.

It's a complete joke isn't it

Nothing against OCUK, people need to stop sniffing Nvidia's backside.

AMD make perfectly good graphics cards.
I've used AMD cards for the past 20 years, and now I'm hoping to get my first Nvidia card, not because AMD is bad, but because they're not aiming for the high-end and their cards don't come out for another month+.
I also wouldn't be happy to hold off for them, especially when they didn't reveal anything at CES when they were meant to.
If they were serious about gaining market share from Nvidia, they wouldn't have had to delay their announcements.

This is exactly what I expected so I'll just be grabbing what I want and I'll wait patiently for it, sold my 4090 in November and grabbed a 4060 to tide me over until the 5090 arrives. In my view these should never be launching until retailers have ample stock so I do sympathise with OCUK and others, but OCUK being so open in advance at least manages expectations up front.

Thought mining boom was a problem to buy a new gpu, looks like AI is a bigger threat
One word, Stargate. It can't be a surprise to the vendors like NVIDIA and AMD etc. - they will be able to sell many years worth of production to that program. Gamers... who? :/

Can I assume 5070's will be a bit more available? I need a whole new PC...
Judging by what rumours earlier shown, NVIDIA sold many more cards to system builders, so one might have much better chances getting whole system than just graphics card itself.

During the great 4090 rush of October 2022 I was one of the people who purchased a card, only for it to be oversold. @Gibbo was a great help and got me sorted with an ASUS card though ;)

Was there any updates as to how this happened? Was it simply too many orders coming in and the back end of the website didnt have time to calculate stock levels?

Have any changes been made this time around? Will be going for pretty much ANY 5090 that is in stock.

Well, if you're purely talking about for gaming, I agree completely. It isn't necessary to jump onto NVidia cards.

Perfectly good graphics cards is a bit more subjective these days however. As given the rise of AI and Machine Learning stuff that's run off of the GPU's these days, the amount of VRAM, and how supported each card's AI capabilities are (AMD has a VERY poor showing in this area at this time) can turn a perfectly good graphics card, into a non-starter.

I have the 7900XTX with 24GB VRAM, but you know what? It fades into the shadows when Machine Learning or AI stuff is attempted, despite it having double the VRAM of the RTX 3060 12GB I am running the AI stuff off of. Again, if just gaming, the AMD card will be perfectly fine and more than capable if not better. It's just there are weakness' to the AMD cards too, and unfortunately it is where the current trend stuff is: AI/ML. :(

If there was better support for AMD card stuff and or easier ways to update packages without needing to basically re-write the whole blasted thing before it works for AMD (something outside my capabilities at this time), then it'll be a better comparison on all fronts.
