Payraise.. how much do you expect? how much did you get?

Wow. Some good payrises in here. I haven't had one since 2021. But then that one was 50% as a result of promotion. Also, that was the first one since 2014. My job sucks for that stuff.

No pay rise this year (NHS) but the unions got us an approx. 5% payrise last year which was back-dated over 4 months. This caused me to pay student loans for the first time of £118 due to me going over some sort of yearly threashold, even though I'm only on a band 3, 30 hours a week. Recorded message said last year that I had to wait until this year to get the £118 back. Phoned back this year and said I needed to create an account with the SLC (Student Loans Company). Created a user name and password, but it then asked for a secret answer. But what was the secret question? Not a sniff of what the secret question was e.g. mother's maiden name or first school or first pet. Fat load of use that was! Had to phone up SLC, pressed around 5 or 6 options, waited 15 minutes, and they were like, "oh no, there isn't a secret question on this account". Password and secret question email sent ok and then I got into my SLC account ok. Now put in an application for the 2023-24 £118 refund. SLC does this deliberately to make sure that most ex-students don't get their refunds due to going over a treshold due to 5% payrise (read: under-inflation payrise!)

Banded nhs staff are supposedly about to receive a 5.5% pay offer as soon as today :)

We've just got more detail on pay rises for public sector workers.

· NHS workers and teachers will get a 5.5% pay rise

· Armed forces personnel will get a 6% increase

· Prison service worker will see a rise of 5%

· The police will get a pay increase of 4.75%

In total it will cost £9.4bn. Two thirds of this will be funded by central government, while the rest will be found from within departments from savings.

Minimum wage was increased between a 9.8% and 21.2% (depending on age/apprentice status etc) in April.
inflation increased prices of goods and services by about 50% ?

looks that way when I'm shopping for food or clothes, + bills

Cutting jobs and giving rises to the rest. Not much use when there is no one left to actually do the work. People are still leaving for 30-40% higher wages in the private sector.
